I stayed awake, in that other cell next to Warrick or in the hall outside his cell, all through the night. I refused to leave his side for even a moment. And I wasn't sleeping at all. I sat there and stressed about what was going to happen to him. How he was going to behave and if he was still going to be the man that I loved, or if he was going to change.

I thought about Papa's story, and what he went through when he changed. He had remembered it all, even though he was in that trance from the biting. And thought about how his father, my grandfather, never left his side after he was bitten. He protected his son, his last remaining family. And I loved that about him. Even though I had never met the man, and I never would, I still loved and admired him for what he did.
