I helped Jared to Rika's car. We both sat in the back of the car and sat in silence as Westin drove us back to my building. I didn't want to leave his side. I wanted to be there to protect him, to make sure that all was OK with him. It was an urge, a desire that was so strong that I would never be able to ignore it.

"Are you still in pain?" I asked him as I got out of the backseat with him in the garage. Being here in the hidden garage, not in the main lobby, afforded us a little bit of privacy. It made it so that we didn't have to explain things to the very curious humans and nonhumans that would be upstairs.
