บท 27: The Desert Temple (There was no dessert this entire time!?!?)

POV Takeo:
wow, that's a lot to take in, listening to Rei's origins, all of her hardships, all being caused by a mysterious entity? This sounds a lot like Teles' story, a man named Brian... hmm, with all these clues, he sounds a lot like this popular Minecraft creepypasta called "Herobrine." You see, Herobrine looked exactly like Steve, except for one key difference, his white glowing eyes.
Herobrine was just a long-running idea for a while on the internet, people made fake spotting videos, mods, and animations of him, but Herobrine never actually existed in the game, though Mojang did add a joke on their update list saying that they "Removed Herobrine" because this creepypasta got so popular.
Now do I think Herobrine exists in this world? I'm not sure, why would he only exist in this world? Is he the reason why I am trapped here? Everyone's origin story kept calling him Brian, so I guess his nickname didn't stick yet around here. Still, if he's the reason why all the people are trapped as these monsters, I really needed to get to the bottom of this, but I needed to focus on the task ahead and get cacti to start my experiment.
"Jeez sorry to hear all that," I said to Rei. I decided not to mention the whole Herobrine thing JUST in case I was wrong about the whole thing.
"Well, what are you gonna do..." Rei said with a shrug
"Actually, my reason for coming here is actually part of that," I responded
"Ah Takeo, you never cease to confuse me," She joked
"It will all make sense later, right now, I just need to collect a ton of cacti" I explained

I can feel the heat against my skin and saw sand in the distance as we neared the end of the plains biome.
"we're here!" Rei called "ugh, soo hot!!!" The enchanted bow I gave her to wear may protect her from catching fire, but it doesn't mean she doesn't feel the weather conditions around her.
It was clear she wasn't used to the weather, but I personally was fine at the moment, I didn't want Rei to get heat stroke, so I offered to build her a shade. "I can run and collect the cacti I need real quick," I told her. Cactus are everywhere in the desert, I needed a lot though so it might be a minute.
"no no, I'm fine!" Rei said while dismounting Cash, and walking up to me.
"Alright then," I handed her a bunch of light blocks. "use these disposable blocks to collect the cacti faster" I explained. "The Cactus will instantly break when a block is placed right beside it, I mean it ain't THAT much faster, but it's great when you're in a rush."

When we were finally done, we had collected 5 stacks of cacti (320 cactus blocks)
"This is perfect, I'd say we're done here," I told Rei as I handed her a water bottle
"Great! finally" Rei said exhausted from the heat, while she drank some water, she saw a structure in the corner of her eye "Say, what is that" she pointed
"HEY! It's a desert temple, desert temples are naturally spawned structures you can only find in the desert biome, you can find 4 treasure chests filled with miscellaneous resources, but you gotta be careful because every temple has traps, this one is filled with TNT." I lectured Rei, as we made our way towards it.
"wow, you sure know a lot about these temples," Rei said impressed.
"Of course, I used to love finding these things during my old experiences," I said trying to hide the fact that it was just when I played Minecraft on my PC.
We walked inside the temple and went into the main room with the clay patterns on the floor
"So, now what?" Rei asked
I got my pic and broke a piece of the clay block to reveal a hidden room, Rei was amazed like I did a magic trick. I then opened the hole up more and pointed to the trap that was down there.
"you see that pressure plate?"
"yeah?"
"step on it and you die" I explained
"Straight to the point huh?" she responded "How do we get down there?"
I flashed a smile at her and pulled out a water bucket. "I'm gonna do a trick called 'The MLG CLUTCH!!!!' HERE WE GO!!!!" as I jumped into the pit without landing on the pressure plate
*CRACK* "GAH **** ***** ******* ****** *** ****** **** NOT AGAIN!!!!!"
"ARE YOU OKAY!!!?!?!??" Rei asked worriedly
"NO, NO I'M NOT!!!!" I cried

After I collected myself, I placed down the water to break Rei's fall, it also broke the pressure plate BONUS. Rei hopped down to the treasure room. "Here we will find 4 chests, you open two of them and I'll open the other two" I explained
"Alright," she said, "any more traps I should worry about?"
"Naw, the pressure plate is the only thing you need to worry about, now let's see what we found!" I said. I opened 2 of the chests, and in it was sand (oH BoY hOw RarE), emeralds, a diamond, some bones, and... enchanted leather pants?
In chest 2, I found iron, Gunpowder, and... AN enchanted golden apple? SCORE! Enchanted golden apples are the best food in Minecraft, they give you tons of bonus health, fire resistance, durability, and regeneration, and they can save your life on any given day as long as it's not void-related.
I turned to Rei, and she said she found a saddle, rotten flesh, gold ingots, sand, and an infinity enchantment book. Infinity is an enchantment book that gives Bows the ability to shoot infinite arrows, it's a pretty useful enchantment, but there are a few drawbacks. 1, It won't work with tipped arrows (arrows that have potion effects), and 2, it won't work with mending enchantment, I guess Mojang thought it was too op to have both infinite ammunition AND durability too bad, but hey! I never see skeleton bows break... or them running out of arrows... eh whatever.
"amazing, these structures are pretty useful, but how do we get out of here" Rei concluded
I collected the TNT at the bottom of the temple and said "We're gonna build up of course!"
"Ah, of course..." Rei said a bit uneasy
I turned to her "You do know how to build up right?"
"Wha- of course, I don't know how to do that, I've never seen anyone do that 'build-up' technique until you did it the first time we met!" Rei said defensively
"Alright then, I'll teach you how to do it correctly!" I responded, she still looked a bit unsure about this "Don't worry, once you learn how to do it, all comes naturally afterward" I explained
I handed her some building blocks and proceeded to show her a demonstration on how to block jump.
"Just jump, and throw the block onto the ground as if you were placing it normally," I said
Hup! And BOOM!
Rei shook her head "You make it look so easy..."
"Come on, just try it," I said reaching out my hand
I then proceeded to watch Rei trip and fall to the floor multiple times in a row, I guess this technique is really only easy for me cause I did it all the time when I played Minecraft. I noticed she was starting to look frustrated, so I think I should walk her through it a bit better!
"Here, take my arm" I offered "Let's take this one step at a time!"
"O-okay..."
Soon after, we finally were able to build up out of the treasure room in the temple.
"you're really starting to get the hang of this, aren't you?" I praised
"eh, I still have some work to do..." Rei said with a small smirk "Let's get out of here!"

After that... commotion, we made our way to the exit of the temple, but as we left we noticed the sky was dark, it was nighttime.
"We should probably just camp in the desert temple for the night" I suggested, Rei nodded in agreement, but then instantly remembered something afterward.
"wait, what about Cash? I don't wanna lose him again!" Rei said in realization. Horses were always afraid of monsters, and in this case, Skeleton horses fall into that category. I knew that the skeleton horse was the reason we got here so fast, oh and umm, that he was very close to Rei I guess.
"It just turned dark, so we should have time to grab Cash and bring him to the temple," I said
|What are you doing? This is pointless, you are much safer just staying at the temple than braving the night with the risk of monsters!!!| Said ??? I ignored the voice and proceeded to leave the desert temple.
We then rushed over to where Cash was located and began to lead him to the desert temple, however, there were a few monsters blocking our way, they weren't any ordinary zombies, but a variant you could only find in the desert, the Husk. Husks are stronger than normal zombies, they are the only zombie that doesn't burn during the day, and they give you the hunger effect if they strike you (though I'm not exactly sure what the hunger effect would do to you in this world.
There were 3 Husks blocking the desert temple, I charged at them with my newly enchanted Iron sword, whacked it 3 times, and killed it, but the other 2 were right at my tail, before I began to dodge their next attack, they both were sent flying instantly, Rei had shot them with her bow, and after 4 arrow shots, she was able to kill both of them.
"Woah, nice shot!" I remarked
"They put me in the ranks for a reason!" Rei responded
I needed to open the entrance for Cash to get into the desert temple, once in I barricaded all the entryways into the main temple hallway, I also placed torches so nothing would spawn in there, I know game mechanics like that probably wouldn't exist in this world, but I wanted to play it safe. Rei tied up cash in the corner of the temple and placed blocks on the floor where we dug to get the treasure, I placed down a bed and sat there for a minute to rest.
I looked at Rei to see her looking kinda cold.
"oh yeah, by the way, deserts are freezing cold at night" I explained
"I-I would never want t-to live here..." Rei said trying to warm up
I crafted a campfire, and put some pork chops on it to get it to cook.
"Here, warm up at the fire," I said
"Thanks," Rei said "How are you not cold?"
"Well I mean, I AM wearing a jacket soooo" I said smug
Rei puffed up and continued to warm her hand on the campfire. Ah the food is cooked, I put one in my mouth and gave some to Rei to eat, she seemed to love the way I cooked them (even though all I did was put them near the fire, I guess this is just a perk with some of my Minecraft abilities?)
We then chatted with each other about some of our greatest adventures and stories, we had some great conversations, laughed, and soon went to sleep in bed, as I lay there trying to drift to sleep I had something on my mind, it JUST came to me...
Man, what is this world doing to me, I was basically socially invisible, I was quiet and preserved, but now, I practically broke out of my shell here, and I made more friends in a few months than I had for the past 10 years! Maybe this was like a second chance for me, a chance to really show I had no trouble showing my true colors, and to stop wasting my life being insecure about everything.
I drifted to sleep and got up the next morning ready to make our trip back to my base.
