บท 48: CHAPTER 45

[Allison Argent POV]

She ran and ran, moving herself at the fastest speeds her legs could carry her with, the only thought in her mind being to get to her father as fast as possible so that he could save Malia.

That wasn't an animal, not one she knew. It wasn't a wolf or a mountain lion, not a tiger or a bear, even a lion. As far as she was aware, such an animal didn't exist or was not known among the common people. It looked like something straight out of an encyclopedia of mythical monsters.

"Dad! Dad!" She shouted at the top of her lungs even though her house still wasn't in sight.

How far did they walk? How far did they run? Why was the house so far away?

"Dad! Mom! Kate! Someone please!" Tears streamed down her cheeks as she pushed herself despite the way her head spun in all directions.

She couldn't. She couldn't forgive herself if Malia died because of her.

What will everyone say?

What will Malia's family say? How would they react?

How will her own family react to the news? Who would even believe her if she told the truth of exactly what happened?

What will Tristan say? How will he look at her?...

At that thought, her heart suddenly went cold.

Fear.

A heart gripping fear that didn't allow her mind to wander towards such a scenario.

What will Tristan do?

The fear she felt at that thought momentarily overshadowed the fear of her current situation and cleared her muddled head a bit, helping her push her body with the slightest strength forward.

She hated this. She hated feeling this weak.

Why was she the one who ran away? Wasn't she older than Malia, why couldn't she have the same strength her best friend did? Why did Malia have to put herself in danger while she ran away?

"Dad!"

This was the worst. Her whole face was covered in tears and snort as she felt a newfound hatred and shame for herself.

"-son!"

What will Tristan say if Malia don't come to the game, only to later find out that she was de-

"Allison!"

She crashed into something, somebody, that held her in place with a tight grip. Her heartbeat accelerated to the high heavens and only came back down when she found herself in her anxious father's embrace.

"Dad! Hic Hic – I'm sorry. I-I'm sorry!" She cried incoherently despite trying to force herself to tell her father what had happened. Her mouth wouldn't just produce the words she wanted to say.

"Allison, calm down. Don't worry, you're safe, nothing is going to hurt you in my presence. You're safe."

Her father's words were like cold water to her hot blood, helping her calm down, at least to a certain extent that she stopped hyperventilating.

"It's okay, all right?" She nodded. "You're fine."

He looked at her to gauge her reaction and relative psyche state before he continued. "Now, slowly, tell me what happened."

By now, the commotion and Allison's shouts had attracted Kate and Victoria out of the house, both of whom were alarmed at Allison's current state.

Hearing her father's words, her mind jolted as everything that had happened moments again replayed itself in her head quite vividly.

"Malia! Dad, you have to save Malia!" She grabbed her father's collars to show how desperate she was.

"I will, but first you have to tell me what happened… What did you see?"

"A-an animal. I-I don't know what it was, it's not something I've ever seen." She just couldn't describe it. It was an animal, yes, but what type and special features it had was not something she recalled. "Red eyes. It had bright, almost shining red eyes."

They all practically stilled at her words while Kate immediately ran inside to get both hers and Chris' weaponry.

"It was after us, but t-then, t-t-then," she shook as her tears flowed anew as she remembered what Malia did. "Malia baited it and told me to run back to get you. Please dad, she's going to die."

Hearing what his daughter said, Chris' face lost all expression but his blood boiled. He looked at his daughter, not even able to smile to comfort her again but he made sure his words got through.

"Don't worry, dear. Nothing's going to happen to Malia."

By the time he finished speaking, Kate had already gotten the car warmed up for them. "Look after her. She'll fall asleep any moment now." He told his wife as she took their traumatized daughter inside the house.

"Let's go." Kate remained silent at Chris' orders, knowing more than others just how absolutely pissed off Chris was.

[Moments after Allison left]

Already shifted, Malia growled at the Alpha, defiance clear in her eyes even as she struggled under the influence of an Alpha's roar.

Irked by her insolence, the Alpha stood on two his two feet, increasing the trepidation Malia felt as he made slow steps forward.

He stopped a few yards away from her and hunched slowly before attacking her with a speed she was too slow to react to.

He hit her with his gigantic back hand and sent her flying and crashing against the ground but she stood up unhurt with only the slightest expression of pain.

Normally she would never even dream of attacking an Alpha on her own, especially not a special one like this, but this time… she was pissed.

He had stalked her like some little prey, derision and ridicule ever clear in his red eyes.

And besides, Allison was her best friend. Regardless of the fact that she was from an Ancient Hunter family, Malia didn't care and just cherished her bond with the frail girl that was just as pale as Tristan. This Alpha had clearly invaded her territory and stalked her in it.

"Come on, bastard!" She roared at him as murder clouded her mind.

Wolves loved the thrill of the hunt and relished how they stalked and killed their prey, but she was different.

She was a werecoyote. All she cared about was drawing blood.

She rushed at him, claws extended to the limit and fangs bared, but all he did was growl at her and slashed her with his longer arms.

She screamed in pain as one of her arms gained four long and deep slash gashes, effectively rendering the usefulness of said arm moot till however long it took to heal.

The intensity of her eyes dimmed as fear and pain brought back her clarity but her rabid thoughts pushed them back as she struggled in her balance with only one hand.

The Alpha looked at the child in front of him in irritation and anger because not only had she made a prime target of his revenge escape but she also bared her barely grown fangs at him. Not caring if she belonged to a pack or not, he decided to kill her then and there.

He watched as she pitifully tried to attack him with only one good arm only for him to sweep her off her feet and stomp on her ribs until they broke with cracks. He dug the claws on his feet inside her stomach and relished the grunt of pain she tried to stifle.

She grabbed onto his legs to prevent it from applying more pressure against her but he just let out a sinister chuckle at the futility of her actions and pressed his feet in further to spite her.

"Ahhhhhhhh!" Tears left her eyes as she screamed from the mind numbing pain.

Hmm?

The Alpha turned around sensing how the temperature suddenly dropped. The clear night becoming a little foggy while the cold increased.

He didn't know if the coldness was something he only felt but it irritated him further when the girl under his feet released a chuckle.

Then he felt it.

Malevolence.

One directed fully at him.

He growled loudly as his anger spiked.

What creature dared threaten an Alpha? A beast of the night like him?

His eyes glowed with an intensity that made the air vibrate.

Two predators, but only one would become prey this dark moonlit night.

Bright crimson met azure blue as they stood a few feet away from each other.

The Alpha inwardly was surprised as he felt the presence of the boy in front of him only after his eyes registered him.

A boy.

A BOY THREATENED HIM!?

"Let her go. NOW." Tristan's voice, while low, contained a ferocious intensity as he stared at the monstrous Alpha in front of him, murder on his mind as he saw Malia subdued under his feet.

"Or what?" The Alpha finally spoke for the first time.

Instead of the reply or the foolish anger-fueled charge he had expected from the boy, what happened next surprised him that he actually took a step back to ready himself.

Without any change in expression or even a twitch, Tristan's form hazed a little only for him to cross the short distance with shocking speed that made the Alpha step back in surprise, freeing Malia for Tristan to recover.

"What are you?" He asked the boy who he was definitely sure wasn't a were-supernatural.

Ignoring the Alpha, Tristan looked at Malia, running a hand over her body to know just how much she was injured, and frowned as he felt the number of broken bones and internal injuries she had.

The injuries were inconsequential since they had already started healing but his main concern was the large gash on her hand and her sides. Those were wounds from an Alpha which means it'll take longer to heal.

He sighed and stroked her head softly. "You'll be fine. Just hold on for a minute." He stood up from his crouching position but turned to look at Malia who grabbed his hand.

Looking at the way her eyes shook told him all he needed to know. "Don't worry, I'll be fine."

He turned to the Alpha, his face contorting into the most unpleasant expression he had ever put on.

There was no need for any further exchange as he rushed at the Alpha, his eyes looking like a black dot in a sea of blue.

The Alpha roared but he remained unfazed as he inched ever so closer to him.

Seeing the boy not showing an ounce of submission, the Alpha attacked by bringing his hand down to block his advance but the boy nimby jumped over it, his eyes unblinking as he entered the Alpha's striking range.

He grabbed the head of the Alpha who used his other hand to hold Tristan and bit the one holding his face to a crunch.

Tristan grimaced at the pain but he had a clear goal.

He bit into the neck of the Alpha without hesitation, drawing blood that made all his senses tingle. It was tantalizing.
