The next morning, after searching once more, Gary reminded Andrew of one last cottage located in the woods.
As it was the last place they had not searched, Andrew gathered all the men and headed in that direction, with Gary showing the way. He was doing this because he wanted to dispatch some of the men to search the woods as well. Though the possibility of finding her there was low, he didn't want to miss any chance.
Gary had led them in the direction he knew Nate's friend lived. Upon reaching there, Gary furrowed his brows. What was going on?
"Gary, where is the cottage? You have led us to a forest? " John was the one who asked. This was a thick forest. And it looked like it would be hard to even pass through. Also worst of it, this place felt so heavy and the air around was getting thick. It felt uncomfortable and gave an eerie feeling of a battlefield with dead bodies plastered everywhere on the ground. They each gulped down their saliva.
"I swear it was so... somewhere here. Hav...have I lost the way? Or Was there no cottage?? " He spoke looking pale and so confused. Had they mistakenly ridden to the wrong place? He never thought a forest as thick and strange as this existed in their town.
"Well, there's just a forest here. The guards living in this town, was there ever a cottage here?"Andrew asked while sitting on his horse. His indifferent face had a vigilant expression on it. The place gave him a dangerous feeling.
"We...we don't think so. Was there a cottage?" They began asking themselves confused.
Andrew stared at the guards and furrowed his brows. Why were they acting so odd? Clearly before this, they had confirmed Gary's words that a cottage was around here with a couple of freaks in it. But they were acting so unsure now. And it also looked impossible for a person to reside here.
Suddenly all the horses started whining anxiously and some were becoming jumpy. They pawed the ground with their hooves and tossed their heads restlessly attempting to flee.
"Let's leave, the horses must have sensed something dangerous..." Andrew ordered and turned his horse around and rode it off as the rest followed.
The horses calmed down after they reached a safe distance away from the assumed forest.
"Your Highness, this is quite strange. I wonder what is out there. I honestly feel like I don't want to ever go there..." John said, looking a little traumatized.
" Well, l here there are a lot of beasts in that woods. It could be that the horses had sensed something fierce... You look too traumatized for such a little event..." Andrew mocked, sounding and looking unaffected, though he did feel like not going there as well.
"l..."
"The search is over. Gather our men, we're heading back to the palace" He interrupted before John could continue with his words.
The person Gary spoke about, from his description, was surely not Anna. He was just curious because he said, she had a weird family and the town folks called them freaks. He couldn't be bothered with that.
Somehow, he was glad he hadn't found her. His father could not execute whatever awful plans he had if she wasn't brought back. But it also caused him to feel uneasy. What if his sister was no longer alive??
In the cottage, Anna and Lucian heaved a sigh. They had heard and seen everything from inside through the window, except they had not made a sound. They knew the people couldn't see them unlike how they could see them. Anna felt impressed at what magic could do. It just hypnotized and confused a bunch of grown men so easily, including her brother.
It was the first time in ten years, she was seeing him, and she couldn't help but look at him more. Though it was at a further distance, she could feel his Charismatic. It had been ten years and he looked rather lonely and cold. She felt guilty that she couldn't even let him know that she was alive. How would he react when he sees her? And what would he say when he found out she already had a son?
"Mother, are you ok? They are gone, there's nothing to be afraid of anymore..." Lucian said and hugged his mother who hugged him back. He had seen the turmoil of emotions in her soul. They have been cooped up in the cottage with Liz constantly chanting in her room for the whole three days. She was afraid something might go wrong, and hence, had refused to take a break from her constant chants.
"Am fine. I just saw my brother, your uncle, and got a little too emotional. Come on, let's check up on your grandmother. She must be exhausted..." Anna responded to him and wiped off her tears. She held Lucian's hands and entered Liz's room.
In a dark chamber, in a house not visible to ordinary people, two women stood in it. One wore a black straight gown, with a thick black veil attached to a hat on her head covering her entire face. It was amazing, just how she could see as the fabric for the veil was quite thick.
Beside her stood a frail-looking young woman, who was shaking from head to toe. The room was so cold and unlike the freakish witch-looking lady, she was greatly affected. Her eyes held fear and confusion in them.
"W...why are...are we here?" She stuttered it couldn't be decided if it was due to the cold or her fear.
"I am yo...your Lord's wi...wife. How dare you bring me here" She managed to say, with arrogance flashing in her eyes.
The lady chuckled, and it sounded like she mocking her. Of course, the veil covered her face. So whatever expression she made, one could not see.
"Little princess, you are no longer in your castle. So put your arrogance aside, if you don't want to die..." She said dangerously as she walked towards her, causing the other woman to step back in fear.
"Our Lord does not care for weak people like you. If you want to be worthy of him, then you need to get stronger. And to get stronger, you do as I say..." She whispered to her sending a chill down the poor woman's spine.
Nora shivered. She never thought after hastily marrying this strange man, she would go through this much as drinking an awful potion and meeting strange people. Was this what her father meant, when he said there was no turning back? Did he know about all this?
She suddenly felt a mixture of emotions, and she didn't know whether she was regretting or just scared. Somehow, she wanted to get strong too, and since there was no turning back, she might as well just face it. Whatever this is.
"Wh...what do I need to do to get stronger?" Nora managed to ask
"Good question"
