บท 45: CHAPTER 44 - I'LL GO
In the cottage, both Arthur and Liz were stunned.
"Anna, you can't be serious. Isn't this the very reason they are after you? " Arthur asked confused.
Liz was quiet, she understood why Anna was making this decision. Sometimes even she feared, she might not be able to protect them well enough.
"I know that is what they want. Am guessing the red elves are powerful, if I could use the very thing they are after against them, it will be great. The strange man is probably not human, we can't battle him with just swords..." Anna clarified her intentions.
Arthur sighed. Anna was right, but what if this changes her forever? He had always believed there's a sacrifice to every decision we make. What if Anna had to make some sacrifices? At this point, he felt helpless. This is one of the situations that remind him that sword fighting cannot solve all problems.
"Do you know what it takes to awaken this blood?" He asked.
"No... What do we do?" Anna turned to the older woman.
"The red elves are known to be ancient beings... If not you, I never thought I'll ever see one. They were known to be very powerful. Information about them should be in those old books. Only prestigious people should possess these kinds of books ..." Liz responded
"The palace!" Anna said out loud, widening her eyes.
"My father has an old library, he never allowed anyone in. Am sure we can find this book there..."
"But Anna, you can't go back to the castle..." Liz reminded her which caused Anna to sigh.
"I'll go..." Arthur said suddenly
"But..."
"I'll go. Have you forgotten how good I am at hiding my aura? Trust me. I'll get the book..." Arthur said and smiled. He hadn't helped her with anything... He wanted to be of some help to her.
"I'll leave after the search in this town... I need to be sure you are fine before I go..." Arthur said to which Liz and Anna nodded in agreement.
In the woods, Darian had dragged Diana along not sparing the other two a glance.
"What the hell is his problem?? Little god, did you haunt him in his dreams??" Nate asked Lucian with a chuckle.
"Am not sure, am still figuring out a way to haunt you in yours?" Lucian said, his sight was following the siblings heading out of the woods.
Nate laughed.
"Well, the one who's going to get traumatized will be you..."
"That's why am hesitating, even your thoughts alone can kill..." Lucian said and shook his head causing Nate to burst into laughter.
"I don't blame him. He's only doing that to prevent being treated worse than he already is..." Lucian said and smiled sadly.
"Yhh me too... But Little god, what happened just now? You got seriously furious..." Nate asked turning serious. He didn't want Lucian to bear his troubles alone.
"I don't know...weird things have been happening to me these days..."
"Weirder than you already are?" Nate asked and chuckled and so did Lucian.
"My beast speaks... I mean not recently. But a few days ago, I used to hear him in my head. This brings me to another topic... For a long time, I've been speaking to a voice in my head..." Lucian paused and looked at his best friend with the expression that said, ' Don't get angry, I know I hid it from you...'
"Yhh, I think I know that..." Nate said and smirked at the expression Lucian had on.
"You do?? I never told you that..." Lucian asked squinting his eyes.
"Well, sometimes you speak your words out loud, and it always looked like you were speaking to someone... So I put two to two together..." Nate said proudly
Lucian widened his eyes but then smiled. He knew it but he didn't think any less of him...
"Am sorry I kept it from you. I thought you'll think I was so full of weird stuff..." Lucian said guiltily. He didn't mean to hide it from him.
"Really! Lucian, you've done weirder things than this. I don't think you're strange Lucian, I think you're special... Don't worry, we'll figure it out together. So what's his name?" Nate asked, his eyes had those glitter that only showed up when he found something interesting to play with.
"Ooh, he's called Raphael. You are both almost alike..." Lucian said, knowing a certain someone was going to burst from what he just said.
"I bet am cooler..." Nate said smugly.
"Well..."
'Little lass, is that little friend of yours comparing himself to me? You kids these days have no sense of respect for your elders at all... Do you know how old I am? How could he be cooler than me? Hmph...' Raphael ranted in Lucian's head causing the little boy's lips to twitch.
"What's he saying? He agrees am cooler, right? ..." Nate asked with enthusiasm seeing Lucian's twitching lips.
Lucian's lips twitched the more. He was starting to regret mentioning this...
'Lucian tell him am cooler than him!...' Raphael said, not at all bothered that he was arguing with a kid.
Lucian was starting to feel a headache coming...
"You are both awesome, so awesome believe me... Now let's go home..." Lucian said and hurried past Nate who run after him, still on about how cooler he was than Raphael.
Just like that and the awkward moment a while ago was forgotten.
Lucian and Nate got home and coincidentally met with Arthur who was heading out of the cottage with Anna by his side, probably escorting him out.
"Boys, you are back. Walk with me..." Arthur said with a head gesture, that indicated they should come with him.
Lucian and Nate followed while Anna went back inside.
The three walked in silence, with neither initiating a conversation. Arthur had waited for a question or two from the boys but nothing. He sighed and decided to talk.
"I know you're wondering how I know your mother. We were childhood friends and actually, I did love her. Maybe still... " he paused
"Ha! I knew it. I saw the way you looked at my favorite aunt. I can't believe I have a rival. And he's even my teacher... I can't fight him." Nate said feigning sadness.
Lucian chuckled.
"Well, I told you my mum is too pretty for you..."
"....."
Nate turned speechless from what Lucian said, while Arthur burst into laughter...
"Anyway don't tell her..." Arthur warned.
"She doesn't know??" Lucian asked
"Well...she did know. But now, things are complicated. It's not important mentioning that now... Anna is going through a lot. You know there will be people coming to search the town for her right?? We hope the illusion spell can keep them away..."
