บท 294: A Glimpse of a Painful Past

David swallowed his saliva with difficulty. The man was blocking his way with madness in his eyes, and if that wasn't enough his mumbling was getting more and more nervous and louder. It was as if he was annoyed that David was not responding.

"I'm sorry," David said in English. All the people he spoke to on the islands spoke the language, so he hoped the man would understand him too. "I don't speak Norwegian..."

The man raised his voice. He spoke even faster. His eyes shone even more.

"I'm really sorry..."

In all the verbosity, David began to catch one phrase: "Han er forbannet." He had no idea what the words meant, but apparently they were important to the man. If David didn't understand the words of this tramp, would he turn violent? Damn, where is Gustav?

"For... forbanet? I don't understand..." the frustration in David was clearly growing.
