The answer came to him on its own, and he was not satisfied with it.
No, he was not suitable for a guy of Gustav Meiden's status. He had no money, no education, no prospects. He couldn't materially offer Gustav anything or support him if he suddenly lost everything (God forbid!). Yes, David would be able to earn food for them, but he certainly wouldn't be able to provide Gustav with a life on the footing he was used to living. They wouldn't starve to death, but Meiden would certainly suffer discomfort.
