For a while, Nidia pondered silently. The only reason Barend is being nice to me is probably that he thought the mysterious man who helped me back in the cafe is a Cunningham.

She figured that this was the reason Barend finally saw some value in his daughter.

She felt her heart turn cold. She directed her gaze to the antique shelf once more, forced to hide her disgust towards him.

There was a pelike bottle vase on the shelf. It had a sagging, almost spherical belly and a flanged bottom. There were two open handles that looked like a pair of beast's ears. Many small deer were drawn across its belly.

'For Barend to keep this here must mean it's something valuable.' 

However, Nidia couldn't pinpoint when it was created.
