บท 32: Chapter 32: Collecting the Information

"Is that you, Detective? Come in!" A stern voice called Caspian.

Hearing that, Caspian wasted no further time as he opened the door, revealing a middle-aged man who had tired eyes. Caspian then asked, "Are you, Dr. Gabriel Morgan?"

"Yes, I am, Detective," The man named Gabriel nodded and simply pointed at the chair in front of his desk as he said, "Please take a seat first, Detective. I'm still compiling the data, and it'll take a couple of minutes."

"Alright, thank you," Caspian thanked Gabriel as he looked around the room. He saw some machinery, a desk filled with vials of blood, and a tray filled with broken vials. As he sat down, he couldn't help but ask the doctor, "What happened to those vials? I've never seen so many broken ones before."

Seeing Caspian's curiosity, Gabriel couldn't help but laugh as he replied, "I was helping a patient of mine stand since she felt dizzy, and I accidentally hit the tray, and it all fell, haha. Can you even imagine?"

Afterward, the room went quiet as Gabriel compiled a huge basket filled with documents and papers. Caspian couldn't help but grow a bit impatient, "Will this take a while?"

"Ah, no, no, I'm almost finished compiling it. A minute or two will do," Gabriel said as he hurriedly arranged it. After that, he carried the basket and placed it on his desk, "There we go, there's a lot of information here, Detective. It'll probably take a while to read and investigate those."

Caspian smiled bitterly as he nodded in agreement. He couldn't help but ask, "Why did they give us a hard copy rather than giving as a soft copy of all this information?"

"I don't know myself, Detective," Gabriel smiled bitterly.

He then picked up a single sheet from the pile and saw dozens of names written on it. He smiled wryly after seeing the sheer amount of paper, but he knew that it was just the right amount of there were only dozens of names on one sheet. After all, albeit Haverfall is quite a small city, it still had roughly 187,000 to 188,000 residents.

After seeing him read it, Gabriel said, "This information is based on their most recent evaluation, detective. Some might be from years ago, but some are recent."

He then placed it back down as he stood up, "Well, thank you for this, Doctor Morgan. I'll be taking my leave."

"It's no problem, Detective! Here, let me help you out," Gabriel said as he stood up and grabbed the basket.

Caspian simply beckoned him to stop as he said, "Ah, it's okay, Doctor, I can handle this."

"Oh, alright, let me escort you out," Gabriel said as Caspian grabbed the basket. He then started to walk toward the exit as Gabriel overtook him to open the door. But the doctor suddenly seemed to have tripped and pushed Caspian, knocking him down.

"Ah, fuck!" Caspian screamed as a huge gash appeared on his palm. With Caspian's unfortunate luck, his hand landed precisely on the broken vials. The documents were sent flying across the room as well.

Gabriel, who heard the scream, instantly stood up and assessed the situation. He then said with worry, "Oh my god! I'm so sorry, Detective! Here let me help you up."

He then grabbed onto Caspian's arm and pulled him up. Caspian then noticed that his hand was healing at a rapid rate and couldn't help but grow nervous, but fortunately, Gabriel covered it up with a handkerchief.

"Let me get the first aid kit first, don't remove it; you'll bleed further," Gabriel said as he opened his drawers in a rush to get a first aid kit. He then hurriedly ran to Caspian, who desperately tried to suppress his healing factor.

Gabriel then removed the handkerchief and started applying some medicine to it before wrapping it up in a bandage. He then said with embarrassment as he scratched his head, "I apologize for that, Detective. I accidentally tripped and, uh… you got injured because of it."

Caspian smiled warmly as he said, "It's okay! It was an accident, after all."

"I'm so sorry. Well, let me just help you with that basket, okay? Oh geez, the documents are all over the floor," Gabriel's eyes widened as he sighed ruefully while looking at the scattered documents.

He then started collecting every single document and stacked it all again, causing Caspian to smile wryly. It roughly took ten minutes before everything was settled. Gabriel then said, "Here, let me help you down. You have someone with you, right?"

Caspian nodded as he just accepted the doctor's goodwill. Gabriel smiled lightly as he grabbed the basket and led Caspian down to the ground floor. Natalie saw Caspian walking with Gabriel as they arrived and noticed the bandage on his hand.

She had a worried expression as she quickly approached Caspian and looked at his hand, "What happened? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, just a small accident," Caspian said.

However, Gabriel scratched the back of his hand after placing the basket on the receptionist's desk as he said, "It was my fault, officer. I'm sorry about that. I tripped and accidentally pushed him toward a bunch of broken glass vials."

The receptionist couldn't help but look at him with a sigh as she said, "Isn't that what happened last time too?"

"Hey! The last time was different! It wasn't my fault that he held unto some of it when he helped his companion up," Gabriel smiled wryly.

After palming it, the receptionist just shook her head, "It's the same thing, doc. I'll get someone to throw those broken vials later."

Gabriel then replied with a smile, "Thanks."

Natalie just sighed as she looked at the hospital crew and said, "Well, thank you for helping the detective out, at least, Doctor Morgan. We'll be heading our way then."

She then grabbed the basket of documents while leading Caspian out as both of them left the hospital.

Caspian and Natalie then entered the car and started it. Afterward, Caspian removed the bandage on his hand and thoroughly wiped his hand to remove the sticky feeling he felt. They then drove out of the Central district and returned to their own.

"Good thing he didn't notice your wound heal rapidly," Natalie finally spoke with a laugh after a while of silence. Caspian just sighed as he replied, "I thought I was fucked there. Good thing he covered my wound up with a handkerchief, and I somehow managed to suppress my healing quite a bit."

"Suppress? That's amazing! You can already control your ability to such a degree," Natalie said with astonishment.

"Is it that good?" Caspian couldn't help but ask. Natalie nodded as she added, "Being able to suppress your supernatural nature in the outside world is one of the most essential traits taught to supernaturals. After all, you have to be able to blend in with humans."

"It's also one of the hardest traits to learn, so kudos to you," Natalie praised Caspian.

Caspian smiled lightly as they had a fun conversation to keep themselves awake as they headed back to Wakefield district.

-------------------------------------------------------------

After two and a half hours, they finally arrived back at their station. Caspian felt somewhat tired, but Natalie was certainly not. She was still brimming and lively as she was used to this kind of stuff.

They then headed toward the lab, and Caspian knocked on the door. Scarlet beckoned them to come in, so he immediately opened the door and saw that Scarlet was properly arranging all the documents within her drawer.

Scarlet then looked over at who entered and smiled when she saw Caspian. However, despite regularly seeing the person beside him, she really didn't know what her name was. She knew Abby, but the woman beside Caspian was someone she did not know, but she somehow recognized her face.

Seeing this, Caspian beckoned Natalie to introduce herself. "Hello, Dr. Bell. I'm Natalie Porter, a part of Agent Ashwood's unit. You might've recognized me from the previous cases that our team handled."

Hearing that, Scarlet nodded as she finally realized who she was. "Ah! So you are the temporary officers assigned here!"

Natalie nodded lightly as Scarlet smiled and told them to take a seat.

After that was done, Caspian then carried the basket of documents and placed it on Scarlet's desk, surprising her. He then said with a wry smile, "I know this is a lot, but yeah, this is all the information about the blood types of every single resident within the city, and this is based on each of their most recent evaluations."

Scarlet couldn't help but smile bitterly at this too. Seeing this, Caspian couldn't help but say bitterly, "I would've preferred a soft copy, but they gave a hard copy for some reason. And I think it's not arranged since that got scattered earlier."

Hearing that, Scarlet's bitterness deepened. Then, Natalie suddenly said, "Don't worry, Dr. Bell, my team and I will be helping you with that."

"Yeah, I can also help," Caspian offered.

"That would be great," Scarlet said as she read the documents.

Natalie then went out of the room to call the others while Caspian started helping Scarlet read through it all.

"This is gonna take a while."
