บท 13: Chapter 13: Devilfruit
"Great. Let me get it."
Excited he rushed off to get the Devilfruit he found. Why trouble his father to try to get his hands on the Encyclopedia for Devilfruits, when a knowledgeable person was here. So Weis rushed to get the brown apple out of hiding and sprinted back.
He burst into the room, shouting, "Here it is."
Raising his hands he showed off his Devilfruit. Sengoku looked over and trained his eyes on the fruit.
"Hm. Brown. Apple. Swirls.", muttered his grandpa.
All waited for him to think and hoped he had an answer.
"Ah. I don't know."
"You don't know?", said a chorus of three.
"Hm. I really don't know. It looks like the Tsuchi Tsuchi no Mi. The Earth Earth Fruit. But something is also different. It is like it is 95% the Earth Earth Fruit, but 5% something else. I guess it it a new Devilfruit not recorded in the Encyclopedia Demonica.", exlained Sengoku to the 3 dissappointed watching.
"If you let me take it to the Headquarters, we can run some tests, to see which fruit it is."
Right after Sengoku suggested that, Sera looked at him with a sharp gaze and said with a voice dripping with anger, "How dare you suggest that. If some of 'those' see and want the fruit, you would give it to them. This fruit was found by Weis and is his to eat."
Weis and his dad nodded their head at this.
'That's right. That is my fruit. Only because I'm too young to eat doesn't mean I want to give it away.'
"Alright.", nodded Sengoku. He could accept this. If it was really the Earth Earth Fruit it was a good Logia power for Weis.
At this time Sera stood up.
"Ok Weis. time for some swimming. Lets go get ready."
"Yes, mama.", said Weis before running off with the Devilfruit, to take it back to it's hiding place.
Weis and his mother went to the beach to continue the swimming training, whereas the two men stayed behind.
Both waited for them to leave before they started to talk again.
"Thank you, Steel. You helped Sera be happy.", began Sengoku.
"Thank you for bringing her into this world, so I could meet her."
"Haah. I'm starting to feel my age. Another 20 years and you will cause me some problems in a fight."
Steel was a bit sulky after hearing that, but choose to remain silent.
"Both of you have a wonderful child. Edel D. Weis. The D. part is what worries me, but what can I expect from my daughter. Of course her child would be a D."
"Father in-law. You will need to relax a little. I heard your stories and I can understand you a little. Your conviction for Justice is commendable, but you have lost the sight which makes us men. You abandoned your family."
Sengoku listened with a stoic expression, as Steel was telling him his observation and understanding of him. But he choose to listen, because this was his daughter's husband.
"You never played the father role you needed to provide, and continued to chase Pirates. Which at the end is a good thing. Just not for you and your family in the end. You didn't cherish your family and that is why we all hate you."
Hearing these words were like a sledgehammer into his heart. He started to wonder, if he really should have come back, after hearing the news, that his daughter married and had a child. He knew it was too late to play the father, but some small part still wanted to make sure she was happy.
"But.", said Steel, which jolted him out of his sad memories and pondering.
"Even then, we understand that you felt like you had to protect the world, even if that meant sacrificing the one thing that holds meaning in this world. Well, except for Weis, as he is a little too young to understand everything. Gehehe."
He, who fought since he was 23. He, who fought for peace and justice. He, who fought for the little man and for the innocent. He, who needed to help the World Government by being apart from his family. He cried.
His gentle nature was revealed, as silent tears fell out of his eyes and ran down his cheeks, but his back remained straight. The stress he felt from being on his toes, even at work, for any potential threat that may occur, left him for a brief moment. He felt sad for his family, but happy that he stuck to his path, or he wouldn't deserve his Haoshoku Haki. The past couldn't be changed, but he would always walk this path, given the choice. For the innocent in the world.
Once again he felt glad he choose to become a Marine and help the World Government guard the world. He would ensure the stability of the world at all cost. At ALL cost.
Reaffirming his believes, he said, "Thank you. Even if you all hate me, thank you for understanding at least."
"Gehehe, no worries, father in-law. As we say on Elbaf.
'A good battle with honor, even far away, is worth it.'
Glad you could relax a little, hearing my rambling."
Sengoku glanced at Steel for a second before rubbing his face, to get rid of any suspicious liquid on his face, that could prove an unlikely occurance.
"Did I just hear Elbaf? You lived with the Giants and came here to the South Blue?"
"Hm? No, I am a Giant, I just ate the Small Small Fruit. GEhehehe", laughted Steel seeing the look on Sengokus face.
Meanwhile, Sera sat at the beach on a blanket reading a book and glancing at Weis every couple of seconds.
Weis was once again immersed in the waves, with only his face still above the waves, which were gently rocking him, back and forth.
'If I could have guessed that my grandpa was Sengoku, I would believe I could guess the lottery numbers 3 times in a row. Now, that confirms that this is really One Piece as I know it. Or at least has the same characters I know, plus or minus some. Now the question is, WHEN is it. Sengoku looks to be maybe 50? So this is before the story? Questions that need answers. But for today, I guess that was enough. Let's just relax a little.
