บท 16: Chapter Sixteen: It's All My Fault!

Country A, Suncity.

7:05am.

"I will always love you, Polina. Even if death comes between us, I'm going to haunt the deepest parts of the underworld, just to be with you, my love."

These were the last words she heard before her eyes snapped open, with the distorted voice that  whether it was a dream or not, she could vividly point out who that voice belonged to.

Adrik Ivanov.

Polina?

That's a new name she's going to have to figure out, why and how she's connected with it.

Her brown eyes connected with the ceiling of her room, and before she could do anything. The images of what happened last night came flashing right  through her eyes.

She wasn't dead!

He didn't kill her!

Narika has expected that by now, she would have been dead because the amount of fear she experienced last night, was enough to cause her a heart attack.

But luckily, here she was. On her bed, with no idea of how she got into her room. The last she could remember was yelling at him to leave her alone, then the rest was history.

She didn't care how she did it, or why he didn't kill her. If there's anything she had expected from him, it was for him to kill her before he makes his intentions known to her, because there's no way she's accepting whatever plans he had for them.

The young lady noticed that she was still in her clothes, and thanked the heaven's that he wasn't a pervert, who would use the excuse of changing her just to take a sneak peek at her body.

Nevertheless, it was nothing but mere luck. That's what she brought it down to, she has always been one lucky fellow.

A mere luck, but it didn't bother her because all her life she's been one lucky fellow. She broke out of her thoughts when she heard the shufflings coming downstairs, before the sweet aroma of her mother's cooking went right up her nose.

God!

Just what she needed.

She didn't wait to check herself more, in case Adrik hurt her. But since she did feel weird, she dashed out of her room and out to the kitchen.

There she was, her bundle of joy. Marya Singh, the best mother in the world. Just watching her, being occupied with making breakfast brought tears to her eyes.

Tears of joy, she thought that she wouldn't see her again. No, she knew for a fact that Adrik intended on hurting her, although she doesn't know what stopped him.

But she's grateful for that, at least she gotta see her mother one more..

What the hell, Narika? There's no one more time!

Her subconsciousness attacked her, and she nearly slapped herself for thinking that out loud. There's no one more time, she's not going to lose her mother, and neither is she intending on dying soon.

If not for anything, her mother was worth living for. So, she's done being scared of whatever Adrik can do to her.

Adrik-0.

Narika-1.

She rushed up to where she was whisking the eggs, and wrapped her arms round her waist.

"Mom," she called, inhaling her lovely scent as she wrapped her hand tighter around her, as if not doing that would separate her from her soon.

Mrs. Marya Singh freezed her movements for a minute, before her body relaxed when she realized who it was. A slight chuckle left her lips, at how  cute and touchy Narika was this morning.

"Aww! Someone is being such a baby this morning," She teased her, which she didn't mind either. " But guess what?" She said, turning around to face her daughter, whose face she cupped into her hands.

"I don't mind because you will always be my baby huni, always." She trailed on, pecking her temple as Narika's eyes instantly got wet, she was on the verge of crying.

"Mommy" Her voice came out croaky, as she pulled her mother in for another hug, surprising the woman more." I missed you"

"Yo! What's wrong with you babydoll?" She asked, patting her hair while noting out that she's behaving abnormally this morning.

"Did something happen at work?" She asked concernedly, pulling her away to look into her eyes.

"Where's dad?" Narika asked, ignoring her question. If there's anything her mother was good at, that was being a good investigator and she was one bad liar. So, she's trying everything possible to ignore this question.

"He will be back soon, but you haven't answered my question.." Marya went on, she knew her daughter too well to know that she's hiding something from her.

"I'm fine, mother. I'm famished. What are you cooking?" She went to the counter, and took the knife up.

"Narika.."

"I'm fine mother, I'm just stressed out from work okay, and i miss you guys. I haven't seen dad for like a week now, you can't expect me not to feel indifferent." She complained, well there was a little bit of truth in what she said.

It was as if her father was avoiding her lately, but she would hage to understand that he's really occupied with work, being a translator and business strategist was no joke.

But amidst that, she missed spending time with him. Besides, coupled with Adrik's case which had left her paranoid lately helped add up, to her being scared that might actually die without meeting him for the one last time.

"I'm so sorry baby, I had to stay at the hospital for an emergency. I know i have being distant lately…"

Her mom tried to apologize, but she couldn't be too selfish to not interrupt. She's saving lives out there, and that's a good thing.

"I know mom, I'm sorry for being such a baby" the twenty one year old girl says, rubbing her arms as if she was feeling cold.

"I don't mind, step aside and i would be done with cooking. Your dad has called in, he might walk in any moment from now on.." Her mother said, but was interrupted by the ringing of her phone.

Narika snapped her head over to where the sound of her phone was coming from, she had forgotten all so soon that it had been in Adrik's possession yesterday.

She rushed and took it up, only to see Zoe calling. She felt bad for having kept her in the dark about her discussion with Morgana yesterday, she was just annoyed.

But right now, she had to fix things which she did by sliding the accept button, and bringing the phone up to her ear.

"Zo…" she tried speaking, but was cut short by the cries she heard in the background, and the voice's that made her know that something was wrong.

"Nar..ika" Zoe managed to talk amidst sobs.

"Zoe, what's wrong?" She asked, getting the attention of her mother who looked up to her instantly." Where are you? It's noisy over.."

"It's my aunt morga..na." She said, which made all the hairs on Narika's body stand up. There was this bad feeling forming up in the pit of her belly, which she didn't like one bit.

Zoe is crying, and that's not something good. Not at all.

"What's wro..ng with your aunt? Talk to me Zoe" she asked impatiently.

There was brief silence, which she didn't know if Zoe was doing this on purpose to have her attention.

"He's the cause of everything,I know he has something to do with it." Zoe added, which made her lash out at her.

"Who has something…Zoe, say someth.."

"She's dead, Narika, Adrik killed Aunt Morgana." She said lastly, the words that made all colors drained from Narika's face.

Her phone slipped right from her hands, and hit the floors while she zone out from the real world.

She heard her mother calling her, but everything went slowly. All her mind kept going around, was on what Zoe said moments ago.

Adrik killed Morgana!

Is it my fault?

I killed her.

She's dead because of me!

It's all my fault!
