Wedding preparations are normally a busy event regardless of whether you are the one getting married or not.
So despite running on little sleep the three of us still were up early to get ready. My mom took events like these as a means to get fully cleaned, polished and dressed to perfection. A whole team would come in and assist us in getting ready from getting our makeup professionally done, to making any alteration to our clothes to fit exactly to our shape.
In this case we also had to get ready sooner because the wedding venue was a bit of a drive. Rebecca and Alan chose to have their wedding in a beautiful estate in the mountains. Rebecca was an avid fan of Jane Austen. In particular to Pride and Prejudice. In our state, there is a famous estate located in a clearing by the mountains. It has the exact look to Mr. Darcys home.
So for her she wanted nothing more than to get married there. Considering the distance to our city, to be as convenient as possible it was decided that both the ceremony and reception would be held there.
Her family would stay in the rooms of the estate where she is getting married. There was an option to stay at a nearby hotel which most of the other guests would be staying at. However, my parents decided for our sake it was best to get ready at home so as to not bring out too many of our staff.
My father anticipates not needing to stay at a hotel and just driving home after. Both my mother and I rolled our eyes at this notion. If it meant he could avoid staying at random places he would do anything. Even if it meant driving for hours in the dead of night.
Not once has he given up and just let us stay at a random place so we learned to bring all the essentials like makeup remover and a box to place any jewelry, hair accessories, and have my glasses so I can remove my contacts.
I was in a daze when my hair was being styled. The feeling of my hair being washed, dried, and heat styled was enough to make me sleep for a bit. It was not until my makeup needed to be done that I was woken up.
"Here darling have something to eat before we get started that way your makeup can set correctly." Gina handed me a plate of food to eat. It was loaded with many fruits and breads and some eggs and meat.
"Also here is a glass of orange juice. By the way tell your parents that the breakfast bar was to die for." Because of how early everyone was attending my parents got a breakfast bar set where both us and staff can grab food as we went about the day.
"Of course, I will make sure to pass on the message and also thank you for bring me a plate." As a whole, the rest of the team also decided to take a break and eat. Many left the room to eat at the dining room which left Gina and I alone.
"Soooo, catch me up to date. Anything new in your life?" As often as Gina comes by, she was gone for a few days for a vacation so she missed a good portion of events. As I recounted everything she paused when I brought up Deans actions from the party.
"He went ballistic on another guy? What is this caffeine gate 2.0!" Gina was all too aware of my near death experience in high school.
"Yeah it was insane. I have never seen him like that. He looked so angry and he even growled a bit." I took a bite of a croissant nodding to the memory while chewing. Gina smiled mischievously at me. "Was it hot?"
At that I started to choke. I chugged my juice as Gina laughed animatedly. "Based on your reaction I bet he was. Who knew you would gravitate towards the bad boy aesthetic." I sputtered hearing her. "Hold up." I coughed violently. "You just caught me off guard, why even think that way?"
"Maybe it is just me but something about a man getting riled up is sexy. Especially since it seems like he was protecting something." My head titled a bit. "Protecting something?" I recalled his movements and actions. As if someone placed rose colored glasses on me the scene looked and felt different to me than before.
He was more handsome than usual. And not as scary either. 'I must be out of my mind.' "Yeah right, anyways lets get going I am ready when you are." I brushed away everything and tried to switch the conversation. Gina started at me for a second before laughing. "Alright alright. I see now. OK moving on, lets do this."
I did not notice the flush from my chest to my neck and up to my ears.
By the time my parents finished getting ready, we were running ahead of schedule so my dad loaded our things in the car to drive us over. I ensured the wedding gifts were in the trunk as well as my letters which I wrote for Rebecca and her husband.
The drive was fun, it required a highway known for its nature views. The mountain where the estate was located had a special entrance where one could park and use a cable car to go up. Some of the guests staying at the hotel at the bottom were in line getting situated on the car to get them up.
My dad however did not stop and decided to take the winding roads leading to the estate. "Best to not get stuck when we all inevitably try to leave at the same time." He justified his choice despite neither my mother no myself questioning him out loud.
For the few cars that parked at the top there was a designated zone. When we arrived I noticed Dean had arrived as well. He was dressed in a sleek black tie suit. His hair cropped shorter than before. Though noticeably his parents were not next to him. "Hey kiddo, all by yourself this time?" My dad was very friendly with Dean, especially since he was his baseball coach when we were little and kept up with his games when we got older.
"Hey Mr. D'Angelo uh no my parents are coming later I stayed at an estate just down a few miles from the clearing so I got here first. Knowing my habits driving back or even getting to the cable car was not a great option for me." He poked fun at his drinking habits but my Dad just laughed alongside him.
"Drink responsibly now, would hate to see you get injured." He patted Dean on the cheek but the action was with affection. "See you inside."
