บท 37: 37
Before he could strike, a sword caught his sword in midair, Azrael had stopped him by blocking the swords from hitting the King, although the King never reacted like someone who was about to hit.
"I told you not to bother yourself so much Azrael," the king said to him but neither of them was listening.
Adriel took back his sword and faced Azrael in a fit of rage, they stared into each other's eyes as they both took their stand ready to kill each other.
Azrael took the first strike but for some reason, he couldn't move his hands, it looked like he was paralyzed on the spot and couldn't move a muscle, even Adriel who was ready to fight him was confused.
"No no Azrael, I told you not to waste time on him and you never listen, do you? Now look at what you have done to yourself,"
Then he turned to Adriel and said "Take the first strike on me if you dare," the king took out a sword from his robe and I was rather surprised because I had never imagined that he was with one.
"Come on Adriel are you scared?" The King mocked him and I believed it made him annoyed because he ran towards the king without hesitation but the king dodged all his attacks effortlessly.
Allesio also wanted to join in the fight but the Princess held him back and said, "No wait, let's see what Adriel thinks he can do,"
Their fight was short-lived because the King chose to play around with Adriel instead of fighting him, soon Adriel fell to his knees, he looked weak and I was hurt.
But I knew Adriel to have more energy than that, he never backed out in a fight so I wondered what was going on until the same old lady who had made the princess and me invisible at the tent came out of nowhere laughing out loud as a witch would.
The King joined in the laugh and walked towards Adriel who struggled to get on his feet but found it difficult.
"Come on get up!" He yelled.
"You were given the chance to leave and make things easy, you think I'll attack an entire kingdom without making plans for all of you? Get up if you think you are strong enough,"
I didn't know why Adriel took it as a challenge, he tried harder to get up but there was a force that kept him from doing so, the witch stretched her hand toward him and he fell to the ground immediately.
Out of reflex, I ran towards him and lifted his head off the ground.
"Let go of me Sage," he growled at me like a lion but I was hesitant.
"I said let go of me, Sage!" He yelled even louder but instead of going away as he ordered, I yelled back at him.
"Don't tell me that Adriel! I will not go away until you stop thinking you are some overpowered warlock, you can't do these things yourself yet you continue to act like you can!"
" Listen to the Princess and stop hurting yourself, it hurt me too Adriel, I can't watch you like this-
"Listen to the girl and do the right thing," the King interrupted me. I meant every word I said to him but I didn't know if anyone else thought I meant them.
The force that kept him down was lifted and he stood up and pushed me aside.
He staggered as he walked towards the staircase that led down the palace, Allesio went along with him but the Princess called him back.
"Wait Allesio," she called
"I've changed my mind, I want you to stay here with me too, let Adriel go alone,"
I didn't like what she said, Adriel was not in a good state to embark on that journey alone, what made her act that way was a mystery.
"But my princess, he doesn't look so good I think I should-
"Stay with the Princess, I'll do just fine," Despite his terrible state, Adriel never admitted that he needed assistance and it made me think that he was proud which I saw as a bad thing.
"Azrael!" The King called the knight that was still frozen on the spot. The old lady shook her head and giggled before doing her thing and letting him free.
"Give the poor man a horse, at least it should help shorten his walk."
Everything that happened made no sense to me, it felt like I was in an unrealistic world that was written by a terrible author who could not carefully plot an escape plan because I found that difficult to believe.
The Princess kept a scary smile on her face and Allesio was void of expressions, the King smiled devilishly while the old lady, or Tersian sorceress as I called her, watched with keen interest as Adriel walked away.
Tears trickled down my cheeks as I watched him leave, but there was nothing I could do, there was so much magic in the kingdoms that we were just powerless against. Aeradon had its magical side but the king never allowed his subjects to experience it as the Tersian king does.
"Where do I stay now my King, I'm very exhausted from the entire event," The princess asked and I stared at her in disgust.
"Follow me and I'll show you your new room, but mind you, the fact that I accepted your offer, and treat you like Royalty doesn't give you room to behave however you want to, hope you get that. " The king spoke to her in an intimidating manner but she didn't bulge.
"That is a good point your majesty, but I may become your daughter-in-law you know? Just as soon as you show me your son whom you speak of," And at that point I knew that the princess was out of her mind.
Just the day before, she praised Prince Andrew, called him all sorts of adorable names, and claimed that she had no other lover aside from him. And just then she agreed to meet with another Prince, I refused to believe everything that was going on.
