บท 13: Chapter Thirteen
"Do you still feel cold or migraine?"
" Yes, it only lasts till late night* she replied slowly
"I'm glad" he said with a sigh
She quickly took off his clothes and gave it to him
"You need to... wear something" she said
He smiled before taking the shirt
"You can still wear the jacket, it's a cold morning" he said, putting on the shirt
" Oh.. thanks" she replied
"Ruby" he called
"Boss" she replied, still not looking at him
"Look at me" he said
She looked up at him slowly..
"I'm sorry" he said
"Why?'
" You know, despite all what you've being through, I still made you suffer in the office, I feel guilty"
" No boss, you don't have to be guilty it's your strict personality, you can't avert it because of anyone" she replied
"but what if I transform because of you?" He inquired seriously
" Sir?"
Someone tapped on the tinted windows and Richard opened it and saw his driver
"Boss, I was afraid the entire night, you were nowhere in sight during the rain"
" But I'm here now, where did you pass the night?" He asked
" Same place as master Julius and Janet, someone was kind enough to give us a room" he replied
" Where's Julius and Janet now?"
"Here we are" Julius replied behind
Richard opened the car door and came out to them, likewise Ruby
"Ruby!" Janet almost shouted
They hugged each other
"I'm sorry I wasn't there with you last night, too bad it had to rain at a time like that, how did you manage?" Janet asked
" Boss handled everything, so don’t worry, I'm fine" she replied simply
"Big head, I thought you'd be in the rain throughout the night, but unfortunately you were in the vehicle, I'm unhappy I wished the rain soaked you" Julius said
" I knew it, you're insane now step into the car before I whoop your black ass" Richard retorted, opening the door
" Thanks" Julius replied and made to get in but Richard pulled him back
" Not for you" he said and took Ruby's hand
"Get in, I'll drop you home" he said
She gave him an uncertain look before getting in
"Get in Janet" he said
"Thanks boss" Janet replied and got in through the other door
" Open the door with your hand and come in" Richard told Julius before going in too
" How unserious" Julius said before getting in
" So how was last night?" Janet asked immediately they were dropped home
"Nice" Ruby replied
"You don't want to tell me the full details right?" She asked
"full gist?" Ruby asked
" Don't act like you don't get what I'm talking about Ruby, you both spent the night in his car and for the fact that he's in love with....." then she paused
" In love with who?" Ruby inquired
" Oh Ruby, I'm tired of the ignorance you always exhibit" Janet said
"Ok fine, it happened that I told him my story before the rain, he gave me his shirt and jacket, leaving him shirtless, I slept on his bare chest with his arms around me" Ruby said
" Yes, I know and about Val, I just hope you'll be safe, don't worry you have my full support" Janet said
" I don't know what you're talking about" Ruby responded
"You mustn't be aware of anything for now, but I'm certain you'll understand as time goes on" Janet responded grinning
*Concerning your case, I saw how Julius was stealing glances at you yesterday" Ruby said
" That pervert, he's fun to be with anyways and you won't believe that we didn't sleep throughout last night, the only formal time we had was when we introduced each other, after that he showed how much he can talk, we talked and cracked jokes throughout last night, I only slept in the early hours of this morning, I woke up with dark circles below my eyes Julius was amazing" Janet told her happily
" All that explanation for only Julius? I'm watching ooo what are we having for breakfast moreover, where should we go to hence it's Sunday?"
" Bean cake and pap will go just well and as for where we're going today, I don't think I'm ready to go out, I need to sleep to make up for last night" Janet replied
" Sure, then I'll just go visit Kelvin" Ruby answered
"You and that worthless fellow sometimes, I imagine why you're so blind when it comes to observing things" Janet said
" What do you mean by that?" Ruby asked
"you'll realize soon, I hope" she replied and entered the room first.
" What's she trying to get at" Ruby thought.
Richard couldn't help but smile all day when last night's scene replayed in his memory.
Maybe because he loves how it made him feel till now
Having her in his arms is like the best thing that has ever happened to him this year
He kept reminiscing about it and even without eating, he feels ok
He remembered her story again and felt sad for her. "I earnestly want to put a smile on her face"
But he feels like knowing more, he carried his phone and that was when he recalled that her phone wasn't an inch close to fair again.
He sighed and dialled Janet number
"Your boss just called me to meet him at a coffee shop" Janet said after hanging up on Richard's call
" Why?" Ruby asked
"He said he wants to ask some things" she replied and stood
" Then you should go, I'll just go to Kelvin's place soon" Ruby replied
" Definitely" Janet answered and carried her bag before exiting the house.
Valerie doorbell sounded like she has been expecting and she literally jumped up to open the door,
These days she's forgetting about Richard because to her, he's a pest maybe because she is now infatuated with Albert already
Albert appeared with a wide smile plastered in his face and hands in the pocket.
"My slut" Albert called
"That's me. Can we go upstairs?, I can't wait to have you again" she replied
“This is insane, has anyone ever told you how spoilt you are?, Why do you always crave for my rod"
"I don't mind being bitchy because of it, I love it so much" she responded quickly
"someone loves my dick how slutty" he said
"Albert just let's go upstairs already, or should we just use this living room?" She said
" No, I'm tired of living room f**k already, let's go upstairs for the bang" Albert replied and grabbed her, giving her a rough kiss as they walked upstairs.
"I'm sorry I kept you waiting" Janet said on getting to the coffee shop. Richard was already sitting
" It's ok, have your sit" he said
She sat facing him
" Mind coffee?" He said
"I don't want to take anything" she said
" Oh .. ok, I called you here because I want to ask you some questions about Ruby" he said
" I knew it" Janet thought
" Oh" she said
" When did you meet her? And can you tell me more about her?" He asked
"I met her last year, we actually met at a restaurant where she works as a server, she mistakenly spilled food on me and apologized vehemently. She was beautiful and looks educated, it made me ask her why she worked there...she said she's a graduate of economics and it's because she couldn't find a suitable job. I was moved to pity but back then, I was jobless too.
A month later I got hired as your brother's secretary and didn't run into her again, even at the restaurant, I was told she was fired because of her clumsiness
Then on another day, after getting my first salary, I moved out of my house to the one I'm presently at as the occupant of the floor compartment...i met her there as the occupant of the rooftop compartment, a very small room equivalent to a store, she sleeps on a mat. I persuaded her several times to move into my room with me but she declined, saying she detest inconveniencing people
But I'm thankful I finally succeeded in making her move to my room. Mr Richard, Ruby is one of a kind, I'm sure you'll almost cry when she was telling you her story last night, I actually cried on the day she told me, I was full of pity for her. The first rainy night I shared with her was terrifying, she was ill all through the night just like what you encountered last night
She's hardworking, brilliant and never gives up easily, she's strong too. Ruby is not common to come by only that she could be awkward and behave stupid most times but she's the best of her kind you'll ever come across" Janet said
Richard breathed a sigh of relief
"Considering the fact that she has only spent a week in the company, I feel attached to her, like it keeps sinking deep every day that right now, I don't know what I'm doing anymore. First it was her brilliancy, intelligence and competence. Then she's pretty, dresses decently and I might sound like a pervert about this but I must say her tiny curves is one of a kind" he said
" I know, I envy everything about her but I envy that the most" Janet smiled
" Ruby is really a rare gem, I haven't talked like this about anyone before, not even Val but i just hope I won't get in trouble" he said
Janet laughed
" Thanks for your time Janet, I really appreciate" he said
"Anytime boss" she replied and stood
She's walking away already but suddenly looked back
“Please protect my friend I beg you, don't hurt her and don't allow anyone to do that too" she said
*I understand" he replied
She smiled before entering a cab that drove her home
"I think it's high time I visit Valerie once more" Richard deliberated and got in his car
Ruby panted hard when she arrived Kelvin's compound. She has been calling his number but it was switched off
"I wonder why it's like that" she thought
When she was about to knock on the door, she observed that it's wasn't bolted so she pushed it slightly and her eyes almost popped out with what she saw
Kelvin! and his supposed cousin making out on the couch stark naked. Her bag fell from her hand first and she covered her mouth with her hand to prevent herself from shouting
Kelvin immediately clothed himself with his trousers while Anna ducked behind him
"Your supposed cousin? Kelvin" Ruby said allowing her tears to fall hard
"Ruby, I can explain.
" So it's all true, Janet was really right, I'm stupid, too dumb to realize you've been fooling me. Despite all the bond we shared, and how much I loved and trust you" She said, wiping the tears
"so now that you know, can you please give us privacy?" Anna said, rolling eyes at her
" Of course Kelvin I abhor you!. Don't ever appear in front of me again, we're done!" Ruby said and carried her bag from where it fell
She was running out when Kelvin held her arm
"Ruby please don't.
She looked back swiftly and gave him a slap on his cheek, her eyes are all red
"If you touch me again I'll bite you" she said before taking off
She resumed running until she stumbled on a stone she fell with an injury on her toe
She struggled to stand up and leaned beside a pillar and she continued crying.
Richard's driver stopped the car in front of Valerie's house and he came down with thoughts about Ruby all over his head. Sincerely he doesn't know what to tell Val cos it's not his style to hurt but maybe when he gets to her, words will form
He entered but she wasn't in the living room nor the kitchen. He was about to call her name when he started hearing sounds from upstairs
"What's that sound?" He asked himself as he climbed
As he climbed, it became more and more audible and clear
it was Valerie's voice. His eyes widened when he opened her door and saw the real deal
Valerie and Albert making out.
Albert his brother, the only guy he treasured in the world despite his perverted acts that same guy, is here making out with his so called fiancée.
He staggered like he wants to fall, he leaned on the wall and felt as if life has been knocked out of him as he stared at them
They both covered themselves with the duvet. Albert wasn't looking remorseful but Valerie has guilt of the highest order on her face.
"Now you know what I mean when I say she's a whore" Albert said
“Richard please I'm sorry it's the devil's work" Valerie said
Richard smiled before becoming serious again
"So this is it Valerie, not taking my calls, yelling back at me, saying you're tired of me this is it, you're busy having sex with my brother"
"Richard I'm sorry. I don't know what got into me, Albert seduced me" she said pleadingly
" Of course he did and for you brother, I doubt if I'll be able to forgive you anytime soon good job showing your true colors" Richard said and turned to go.
" Richard don't leave please" Valerie pleaded, getting up from the bed. He turned back swiftly.
"Oh, you mean I should wait and record how my brother will f*ck you? Shameless wench!, Screw you!" He said before rushing out.
"Richard, Richard! Darn it!, I'm done for!" She lamented, weeping already.
"You caused all this! You're the real bastard Albert If not for you; I wouldn't have gotten into this mess! “Valerie yelled at the top of her voice but Albert stood from the bed and dressed up, carried his jacket from the floor and faced her.
"Really? now confess to me in one word that you never enjoyed my rod" he asked with a mocking smile
Valerie scowled at him and lifted her hand to slap him but he held it and pushed her back until her back made contact with the wall
"Did you just make an attempt of Slapping me? You know, the fact that we're f*ck buddies doesn't give you the liberty to do anything because I'll strangle you in case you don't know. By the way, I think I'm exhausted of your well already because It's sour and bitter so I need to change taste. Listen attentively to me Valerie, don't ever show your face in front of me again and like Richard said, to hell with you!" Albert said disgustingly and threw off her hand before leaving.
After his departure, Valerie fell on the bed heavily and another round of tears strolled down her face "What do i do? Where do I go from here? I've messed up so badly!" She wept, holding her head.
