บท 30: Chapter 29 Inscription Master and Getting Ready For The Tournament
In the west outer sect peak, you can see Liu Yang with an irritated face sitting on a chair inside the supervisor's room while Master Meng with a cup of tea in his hand is looking outside the window. Master Meng seems to be looking at the front yard but his thoughts are somewhere else.
After a few moments, Master Meng spoke in a resolute voice and looked at Liu Yang from the corner of his eyes. "...It is not possible for Liang Chen to kill someone 2 realms above his cultivation. Even if he is the best genius among geniuses, this feat is unimaginable... Where and when did you lose contact with your family's expert?"
Liu Yang thought for a second and tried to recall everything that happened on that day. "In the afternoon after Liang Chen returned to the sect. I received a messaging talisman that says he lost track of Liang Chen inside the outer sect near the peripheral garden..." Liu Yang was about to say something but he held it back however he felt like he really needs to inform his master about this. Even as a noble family, losing an expert in the Foundation Establishment realm is not something small. Nurturing someone in that realm cannot easily be replaced. "...that was... less than a month ago..."
When Master Meng heard the latter sentence, his face turned into a mixture of surprise and displease. "AND YOU ARE JUST TELLING ME NOW?!" Master Meng reproached. Liu Yang was startled when Master Meng crushed the cup in his hands. He didn't know what to say back as he have no idea what happened after he received the messaging talisman and he was sure that Liang Chen cannot defeat the expert sent by his family. It was impossible yet Liang Chen still lives.
"I... I thought that person was hiding and observing Liang Chen. I tried to send a messaging talisman 2 days ago but it won't fly. There are only 2 ways why a messaging talisman won't work. It is either the person who is supposed to receive the talisman has entered a hidden world and has not been back yet or that person is dead..." Liu Yang explained.
Liu Yang remained silent while looking down and ignoring the huge sweat on his back since Master Meng was staring daggers at him. A few moments later Master Meng suddenly asked him. "Have you spoken about this with your brother?"
Liu Yang shot Master Meng a questioning look. Why would his brother come into the picture? "No... why master?"
"Good! He is already at the peak of the Foundation Establishment realm and is a candidate for becoming a core disciple after the tournament. Once the core elders see his performance, he is sure to be scouted by them." He was about to turn around but stopped mid-way. "Don't get me wrong, I am not angry at you. I am just worried that you would involve your brother in this. As the next head of the Liu family, your brother, Liu Zhi tattles a lot towards your father especially if it will benefit him. If your father is involved, then my head will be rolling on the floor in the near future."
Liu Yang was bewildered by that. Why would his father kill Master Meng? When Master Meng saw his face, he sneered. "You were not born yet 50 years ago, your father destroyed the Ye family of the north all by himself. Not even sparing the lives of the young ones and unborn..." Master Meng looked away from him. "If it was not Liang Chen, then the only other possibilities are that Master Wu killed your dog or someone else."
Liu Yang has this troubled face and almost stood up when he heard the last part of what Master Meng said. "Has... Has Master Wu reported this to the assembly?" He asked worriedly.
Master Meng shook his head. "No, not yet. That is what I am puzzled about. If Master Wu was the killer, then he should have called for an assembly and reported it. But he did not. I am not sure if he was the killer and kept it a secret or if someone else did. If he did keep it a secret, then for what purpose? He doesn't know how cruel your father is and has no reason to fear him. This is what I am worried about the most. For now, since Liang Chen won't go outside the peak, keep improving your cultivation then destroy him during the tournament."
"Yes, Master Meng. Don't worry, I bought some Swiftsilver Flower from the exchange hall. The Pill Master I hired should be finished concocting the pills in 2 days." Liu Yang paid his respect and then left. Leaving Master Meng thinking about things and make adjustments to his plans.
As time went by, Liang Chen, as ordered by Master Wu, didn't go out of the peak. He just focused on training and cultivation. This made Liu Yang and his goons irritated. Liu Yang cannot deal with Liang Chen and his underlings kept thinking that it was just a waste of time observing him instead of cultivating or doing missions. The other adorers of Xiu Ying felt the same way. They wanted to teach Liang Chen a lesson or put him in his place by challenging him that she is more deserving to be with them instead of him. Thanks to Xiu Ying's actions towards Liang Chen, as days pass by, those who bother her are getting lesser however it increased their irritation towards Liang Chen instead.
There were times when the trio visits him and asks for cultivation advice and some sparring lessons. At 1st it was just Wang Jun who asked for advice and was imparted the Unlimited Extreme Fists practice method same as Master Wu's. But when the 2 heard how Liang Chen explained things, they were convinced that Liang Chen's answers are more profound and had more insights than other elders. Of course, it is thanks to the Universal Guide coupled with Liang Chen's own understanding. In a few days, Wang Jun's strength increased significantly. It was not visible through his body build but was shown during their sparring sessions. Seeing the results, both of them were eager to learn as well. Shi Long was thoroughly convinced that he dismissed the feeling of being embarrassed by sweating like a pig and exposing his chest. The trio didn't mind that Liang Chen was teaching them despite the fact that he was a few years younger than them.
Xiu Ying too has been visiting him at the training hall for pointers and occasionally teases him like a girl who teases her crush. This made other disciples even more jealous to the point of staring daggers at him. Liang Chen was a bit baffled by Xiu Ying's actions to the point that he asked the Universal Guide for advice. Though the Universal Guide has an idea of what Xiu Ying was doing instead it remained silent about it. The Universal Guide just said it didn't know anything and to just let her be. This just made Wei Ling annoyed since all the effort she made to have Xiu Ying look bad had a different outcome. The jealous male disciples upon seeing Xiu Ying together with Liang Chen giving off a lovely atmosphere overshadowed the rumors Wei Ling spread out about them.
Half of the day, aside from practicing the Unlimited Extreme Fists, the Rising Sun Sword, and the Raging Tempest Sword in the morning, he cultivates or learns more about alchemy, array formations, artifact forging, and even inscribing talismans. He got interested in being an Inscription Master when he checked the storage ring from that expert sent by the Liu family and got a few talismans. Liang Chen was already familiar with being an inscriptionist since he has been doing it using stones when forming an array. With the help of the Universal Guide, he also made his own concept and theories of unique runes and symbols. Like his array formation formula, it would be hard for another Inscription Master to decypher his talismans. It would be a huge headache for them. Liang Chen chuckles just imagining a symbol that looks like a raised middle finger and it would take an Inscription Master weeks or even months just to find the use behind it. If the Universal Guide has its own body right now, it will shake its head while looking at Liang Chen.
Weeks passed, and both Liang Chen and Xiu Ying made significant progress in their cultivation. With the help of pills, Liang Chen broke through to the Qi Refining realm at level 5 and Xiu Ying at level 3. Liang Chen has been training rigorously which pushed him beyond his limits but it was well worth it. He was now competent to engage in real combat for both his martial arts and sword arts while Xiu Ying has mastered hit-and-run tactics with the Cloud Piercing Sword. Both are ready to face the tournament with confidence and skills.
