บท 24: Wounds
The anger of the stranger ignited upon seeing Shen Yize's behavior, shouting, "Do you really think you can solve this by shooting, Shen Yize? Impossible!"
"Oh." Shen Yize glanced at the person with special spatial manipulation abilities and said, "By the way, the person with incredible spatial manipulation power, time is running out, and he doesn't look okay."
"You should be worried about him, as he's the only super ally you have, right?" Jiang Zhi fueled Shen Yize's words that wiped the smile off the stranger's face.
The stranger stared at them warily and stuttered, "How... how do you know?"
"Guess what?" Shen Yize flashed a sweet but chilling smile.
After seeing the stranger's pale expression, Shen Yize explained, "We have more people with special abilities than you think."
"So, go ahead." Jiang Zhi waved his hand, signaling them to leave.
As the man gritted his teeth and stepped back to his companions, one of his allies shot him just before he got close.
Startled cries followed as fresh blood flowed. The people fled, leaving the man on the ground, bleeding and groaning.
Seeing the bloody scene, Shen Yize frustratedly yelled, "Oh, not again! Zombies everywhere, damn it! I'm sick of them!"
Jiang Zhi scratched his non-itchy head, unsure of how to react. Nevertheless, he knew that where there was blood, zombies would detect them more easily.
However, he was clear-headed. "Can we help that guy?"
Shen Yize rolled his eyes lazily. "Yeah, sure, his wounds need to be tended to before the zombies swarm, but we can't stay here."
Jiang Zhi nodded, "I'll tell everyone to gather their stuff and get ready to go."
They both split their tasks, with Shen Yize assisting the gunshot-wounded man. Treating his injuries until they healed.
Zhang Rui and the others exited the bakery, preparing to get into their car after loading up.
Jiang Zhi approached Shen Yize and helped him up. He glanced at the stranger and asked, "Hey, your ally left, so what's your plan now? Do you want to come with us?"
The stranger declined with a low voice, "No, I'll face this on my own."
His demeanor shifted within moments. It was the end of the world, nothing surprising about that.
Jiang Zhi didn't press further. "Sure thing. If you change your mind and want to join, find us before we leave."
Jiang Zhi assisted Shen Yize to sit in the back seat of the car. Due to his still relatively low special abilities, Shen Yize easily grew tired after using more than half of his strength.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Shen Yize answered. He hadn't used his full power to heal the man's wounds, just sealed them to stop the bleeding. It was alright.
They all got into the car. Mu Yang, Bo Hueming, and Mu Xiao were already in their car, while Jiang Zhi's car wasn't running yet as they were preparing to leave.
Zhang Rui was confused because Jiang Zhi told them not to leave yet. He asked, "Hey, why haven't we gone? I can really hear the zombies getting closer!"
Jiang Zhi didn't reply, but Shen Yize reassured him, "Hold on. Just a little longer."
Reluctant to join them, the stranger approached from outside the car with visible struggle. However, his injuries weren't fully healed; they were just sealed to prevent further bleeding.
"I'll help him, you guys wait here for a moment."
Unaware of the creeping vines approaching him, Jiang Zhi hastily got out of the car and helped the man into their vehicle.
Shen Yize wasn't surprised to see Jiang Zhi wanting to help the stranger outside. He was used to Jiang Zhi's kindness.
Both of them watched in silence as Jiang Zhi assisted the stranger into the car and noticed something moving on the ground. Zhang Rui shouted to warn, "Hey Jiang Zhi, watch out! There's something coming at you!"
While continuing to warn Jiang Zhi, Zhang Rui quickly got out of the car, unleashing fire to burn the approaching vines. However, a different branch of the plant entangled Zhang Rui's leg.
Seeing that, Shen Yize panicked too. "Zhang Rui!"
Shen Yize lowered the car window and shouted to the other vehicle, "Bo Hueming, use your earth power to stop those crazy plants! They're mutant plants!"
"Got it!" Bo Hueming employed his ability to assist, controlling the earth on Jiang Zhi and Zhang Rui's side.
Shen Yize got out of the car to help. "Be careful! Jiang Zhi, get that guy in the car, and Mu Yang, help me with Zhang Rui!"
From the other car, Mu Yang stepped out to assist in getting Zhang Rui into their vehicle and did so.
In a matter of seconds, chaos erupted. Bo Hueming used his power to restrain the crawling plants, allowing everyone to rush into the car. The car quickly pulled away, leaving the bakery area.
Sitting in the back seat with Zhang Rui, Shen Yize tried to tend to his wounds.
"Hey, there's poison in those plants, but don't worry, I'll fix it."
Zhang Rui stared at his numb leg in horror. "Ah... my leg's gone numb. Hey Shen Yize, I don't want to die!"
Zhang Rui genuinely enjoyed spending time with Jiang Zhi and Shen Yize, despite the terrifying zombies and chaotic world; he liked hanging out with them.
Finding his panic amusing, Shen Yize chuckled. "Shut up or I'll come up with a very painful healing method that'll make you faint."
After neutralizing the poison, Zhang Rui fell asleep with a furrowed brow.
Jiang Zhi gazed at both of them through the windshield and said, "Sorry, I was too careless."
"It's okay, blame the weird plants."
Although Shen Yize didn't blame him, Jiang Zhi still felt a bit guilty. He took a deep breath and focused on driving. "Rest for a bit, and we'll find a safe place later."
Yawning, Shen Yize was ready to sleep, but they noticed one extra person.
"Hey, how's your wound?"
The stranger froze and felt slightly embarrassed, he answered briefly, "I'm fine."
"Heh, your attempt at being fine." Shen Yize snorted; he knew he had just removed the bullet and closed the external wound. The man couldn't be completely fine. "Give me your hand, let me take care of the internal part."
"No... Ugh!"
The stranger refused, but before he could say more, Jiang Zhi cut in, "If you want to talk, do it after you recover."
The stranger winced in pain. "Fine. Thank you."
Shen Yize assessed the man's condition through his palm and helped tend to his unknown injuries, expending a lot of his power. Then he lay back and closed his eyes.
After a while, the restless Shen Yize said hoarsely, "Jiang Zhi, stop now!"
"What's wrong? Why are you..."
"Just stop for a moment, okay? Just recharge!"
"Alright, alright. Got it."
Jiang Zhi pulled the car over to the side of the road. Shen Yize quickly got out of the car as it stopped on the empty road and ran into the darkness.
Jiang Zhi panickedly followed. "Yize, what's happening to you?!"
