47.59% Wretch: Exception To The Rule / Chapter 89: Fear

บท 89: Fear

Sir Solitar could have followed after the wretch but he knew better, Axiolypito was too drunk about his survival to pay attention, but he wasn't falling into just any pit.

First of all, the ground breaking apart and revealing such a deep chasm on such a wide area wasn't normal, had it been due to some magical or special component of the land, it would have certainly been noticed way before.

Sir Solitar wasn't the sole cause of this event, it was mostly due to whatever he had struck inside of the wretch's head, he could tell the texture and resistance of the objects he cut perfectly.

First through some of the monster's hair, his skin then the skull and then some fragile, needle-like thing, something that could be easily broken, he had slashed deep into Axio's skull, but he hadn't struck the brain, he could only suppose the cockroach had moved his own brain, or something of the sort.

Whatever it may have been, it unleashed some sort of shockwave, it wasn't incredibly powerful but it had been enough to unveil what hid underneath the soil.

Solitar saw the wretch fall into a dark hole, which quickly closed off after the monster went through, or perhaps even as he was going through but he had no doubt that Axio wouldn't die from mere crushing.

What was hidden even deeper however... Sir Solitar knew it would be hard to survive for anything or anyone, he had never seen it for himself but he could clearly recall what one of his old, nameless friend had said about the Abyss.

He had been a prodigious monster hunter and thus, had taken an interest into the apostle bearing the title of 'The Lord Of The Hunt', little was learned about this particular one apart from that they apparently resided in a place called the 'Sympan Skoupidia'.

And also, that they had a certain link with the Abyss.

Solitar had only been described the feeling by his friend but he instantly recognised it, any fool knowing the first thing about the Abyss wouldn't give any thoughts about even approaching it.

Sir Solitar placed his blade on his shoulder, his nagamaki appearing pristine, free of any damage or filth, as though it hadn't been used at all.

He stayed there, deep in thoughts for a long while, expecting Superstes and her party to arrive soon, he wasn't in the least worried about them.

Though, he was first found by someone else, slashing while holding his blade with only one hand, he sent two hands and a head flying, the headless body jumped back, regrowing his lost limbs in an instant.

Undying Prophet had nothing to say, only laughing as he realised his instincts had been right, there was a formidable enemy here and it exceeded all of his expectations.

"Where is Axio?" he still asked a question however, he couldn't be certain if the wretch had been there at all but the presence of such a strong foe and the absolute madness that had happened with the Fourth Minister's constructs were enough for the orc to draw a conclusion.

Sir Solitar simply pointed down at the gigantic hole in the ground, simultaneously preparing to strike Undying Prophet down in the next breath.

The orc rushed forward as soon as he got an answer, much slower than Axiolypito, it was obvious that he wouldn't be landing any hit but the minister wasn't alone, Sir Solitar slashed at seemingly nothing but air rather than the approaching monster.

Instead kicking him in the guts and sending him flying the other way as the swordsman turned to look a seemingly empty space.

The Scourge was no longer affected by the wind spell of Cradled Lich, it was entirely undetectable, it should have been, yet the gaze of Solitar landed right where its formless self was situated.

'Powerful...'

Not to mention, another worrying thing was that the mental attack that the minister had thrown his way had been cut, just like that, a mind attack cut down by a very much physical sword and this without effort.

Seeing Undying Prophet charging again, The Scourge wanted to say something but no longer could, the orc was alone as he faced Sir Solitar, a grin plastered on his face.

Which soon completely faded away and was replaced by an expression uncharateristic of the immortal monster.

As he saw the swordsman's nagamaki move in a tremendously fast fashion, yet so slowly, he didn't understand but it soon made sense as he saw his own reflection in the blade, a strong, natural and primal fear overtook his entire being.

It was only natural, for a living being to forget about its one true fear after living decades or longer as an immortal, however, no matter how enjoyable, how true it may seem, how exquisite and blissful it was, no matter what...

The living always fear death, it is simply that for some, they were only reminded of this fact when death stared them right in the eyes.

If only Solitar knew that in this instant, he was embodying the will of an apostle of Mov...

Undying Prophet had no way of changing his course or retreating now, he raised his arm uselessly in front of his face, the blade tearing through his flesh and bones until it took his head.

He saw the world spin before he crashed to the ground, soon followed by his body.

An orc, not unlike the rest of his kind apart for greater wits, was taken out as easily as many other of his brethren, his status as minister meant nothing when the sole reason he had gained this title was for the very thing that had just been severed like it was nothing.

Undying Prophet was no more, dying like he should have so long ago, beheaded and nameless.

Without wasting any second, Sir Solitar moved to take care of The Scourge as well, not impressed by his killing of the Second Minister.

Before he was able to however, the world seemed to warp, his blade deviated from its trajectory and a tall, faceless figure had now appeared.

He swung once more, only for the world to warp again and for the two monsters to have vanished.

He looked at the corpse of the orc, seeing it being turned into a dark material before crumbling down to pieces.

'That's what it was' he thought, now knowing for certain what he had broken inside of the wretch's head, this entire time, this was what he had been wondering about.
