Before Axio could wonder where that voice had come from, the newly arrived silver knight, wielding the same weapon as his predecessor, took a swing at the center of the monster's mass.
Having to bend to meet the curvature of the mace, the wretch, slipped over the attack before it could truly connect with him meaningfully.
Earning a perplexed grunt from the man, he continued swinging this massive weapon with only one hand, being barely slow enough for the wretch to avoid them without damage, although it seemed like they were hitting their mark every single time.
Backing off with everything he had, Axiolypito tried to summon more spawners as the ones already dispersed around spawned more creatures but this knight wasn't having any of it.
With a heavy stomp on the ground, what looked like shards of silver formed all around him, they were sent at much slower pace than the man himself but it wasn't like Axio could do anything about them, he only had himself to stop them and seeing how they pierced through bears as if it was butter before destroying the spawners with pinpoint accuracy.
It was clear that he wasn't going to do anything about them even they had been even slower, not to mention the knight was coming for him too.
Easily evading the few silver shards coming for him, the wretch turned his back onto his attacker and bolted it the other way.
The knight wasn't worried about this, even as he saw that the wretch was much more skilled at fleeing than anything he had seen before, he slowly and deliberately rose his mace up, keeping his gaze on the quickly retreating monster before slamming his mace into the ground.
The brick road was destroyed completely but most importantly, the wretch's run was halted as he hit an invisible barrier, which glowed with a silver shine for a second after impact before returning to being completely transparent.
Had the wretch been able to see or sense mana in any way, he would have clearly noticed the spell being used but he knew of no such things.
Turning his head like an owl, he saw the knight speeding his way and shattering the ground with each steps.
"You're even more destructive than those brutish bastards" he said, referring to his own troops that he would have called back if it was of any use, they had been enough when he had hijacked their brains but not anymore, this one was stronger, much stronger, he wouldn't let himself be ganged up on by goblins and wretches.
Once again stomping on the ground, only with a somewhat different stance, instead of silver shards, a wave of silver mana was sent the wretches way, seemingly intent on crushing him against the barrier.
Turning his body around as well, the wretch jumped up and pushed himself against the barrier, landing a good distance behind the knight and effectively avoiding a crushing fate.
"You jump awfully high for something with such weak limbs" remarked the knight with a hoarse voice, betraying an advanced age.
"It's all about flexibility, remember that from when you were younger?" he hissed at the old knight, who only shook his head at low insult, quickly beginning to swing again, getting used to the wretch's speed.
Managing to shatter one of his arms after managing to catch Axio of guard, the old knight only noticed that apart from looking infuriated, the monster didn't seem very bothered by this.
Continuing to move despite the limp arm, twisting his body unnaturally and making absolutely eggregious looking moves that would get anyone killed on the spot for even trying to do this sort of things.
It was working very well for the wretch over, spinning around and making flips was indeed pretty impressive when it didn't result in an instant loss.
Still even if incredible, the old knight didn't feel like being outmatched but a wretch of all monsters, being defeated by a goblin sounded bad but at least, goblins growing powerful happened from time to time.
A wretch? Absolutely never, he still had a hard time believing that the knight that had been killed had lost to a wretch, despite seeing the end of the fight himself as he arrived.
How could a monster so stupid and weak, with an incredibly limited lifespan even if they didn't get themselves killed, defeat a royal knight blessed by silver?
'I'll come up with a cover up after I kill this thing, I can't let the word spread' he thought, right before getting a clear hit on the monster's chest, he wasn't going to have time to bend and twist to soften the blow or get away.
'Dammit!' the wretch felt the crushing blow before it even happened, his mind went blank and the vision before his eyes was replaced by an old memory.
That of a rock flying around another, much bigger rock, the endless orbiting that he had once witnessed in front of his eyes.
No, he was the rock, the lonely rock that would never become one with the conglomerate of rocks it was floating around, forever, it would never join its fellows, it would keep its distance and look down upon the rocks that finished the many laps.
The assimilation into the larger rock was the only reason of their existence, it was all that was present in the endless dark expanse.
The rock had no reason to not become one, it had no reason to believe there was better for it apart from this fate.
Still, it refused to follow the lead of the rest of its kind and continued to orbit around the mass of rocks, flying around faster and faster, breaking through the limits it had once believed couldn't be breached, still, it seemed like the gravitational pull of the larger rock had grown stronger than ever.
Trying to pull the lone rock toward itself forcefully, it seemed like it would be the end of the line for the rock, having done nothing but wander aimlessly its whole life, hoping for something better but never moving far from the one thing fate had in mind for it.
Until, further away, so much further away, something else appeared, an enormous ball of fire manifested, the pull ceased entirely and the wretch came back to when the mace was just about to strike him.
However, it hit the crystal tucked in his coat first and the mace was flunged back with considerable force, taking both the monster and knight by surprise.
A shape formed out of orange flame and stepping out at a walking pace, standing in front of the tall knight.
The old knight, despite his age was still one meter and ninety-five centimeters tall, he had to look down to meet most people in the eyes but not today, the figure forced him to crank his neck up.
The newly arrived figure oozed something that disgusted and terrified the old knight, without thinking about his chances, he rushed forward, knowing that there was no retreating possible anymore, he called off his barrier, needing all the focus possible for this, no longer caring about the wretch at all.
"Aah, how good it feels to be out of that damned tower in my own body for once"
