I consulted my Poké Dex and performed a scan on it.

"Skarmory. The Pokémon known as the Armor Bird. Even though it is completely covered in armour made of iron, it is able to reach speeds of over 180 miles per hour when flying."

I put my left hand in my pocket and felt around for the empty Poké Balls. I had my heart set on the Skarmory. If you added June to the mix, you'd have a formidable squad.

I took June's Poké Ball and placed it in my bag. Then, I reached into my pocket and pulled out an empty Poké Ball. I pressed the button on the empty Poké Ball. As the ball grew larger, it pressed against my fingers. I could hear my dad teaching me how to throw a baseball, just like he did when he was my age many years ago. "Take direct aim at the head." Imagine that your arm is a gun, and pull the trigger in your shoulder. "Imagine that your arm is a gun." Allow the ball to roll freely through your fingers.

When I let go of the ball, it rolled away without a hitch.

I, on the other hand, did not give any thought to the fact that this being possessed operational eyes.

The Skarmory observed the ball as it approached it from a distance. It spread its metallic wings, exposing the metallic feathers on the inside, which were a crimson colour, and then it fluttered away from the path of the ball. The Poké Ball crashed through the sky and landed in the grass beyond the birds, who took flight as soon as they heard the noise. The majority of the birds took flight and left. The Skarmory remained still and flapped its wings towards me while emitting an otherworldly screeching sound from its throat.

It was as if a raging hornet had attacked me. To get ready to make a dash for it, I took a step backward. To get June's attention again, I brought out her ball. When I turned around, the Skarmory had closed the distance and was biting my arm. In spite of the fact that I could see some of my flesh being ripped from my right arm, the shock was the sensation that registered most strongly with me. At this precise moment, I believe I started to cry out of sheer terror.

I turned around and ran back the way I had come while holding one of my arms with the other. At that precise instant, I had a helpless feeling. I found that I cared less and less about June as time went on. It was possible for the metal bird to have devoured her. I just didn't want to die.

The Skarmory caught up to me in a matter of seconds and shoved my bag, which caused me to fall to the ground. My lip split open, and I accidentally tasted the dirt. The bird had perched itself on the ground and had begun to screech at me while simultaneously strafing around me as if I were its adversary. I screamed for someone to help me.

June, who had been walking along the path, climbed up onto the Skarmory. It made a twittering sound as it tried to scratch the metallic body of the Skarmory. This, in addition to the noise that the Skarmory was making, was an otherworldly noise; however, the fact that the Skarmory was not attacking me was somewhat relieving. I rolled onto my side and watched the orange bird with the metallic beak as it attacked the larger one with its claws.

June was flung in my direction after the Skarmory jerked its neck and threw her. It charged June and, with a swift, backhanded motion, slashed her across the chest with one of its wings as it passed by. Before June passed out, a line of her blood could be seen splattered across the ground. I had the sudden impression that I was by myself in the world.

Under my injured arm, I could feel a pool of my own blood beginning to form. I thought I saw a trace of it as it moved across the minuscule grains of dirt in front of my eyes, but now I'm not so sure. Because I was experiencing a mixture of fear, despair, and, extremely strangely, contentment, my only reasonable conclusion is that I was going through some kind of traumatic experience at the time. Even though I hadn't even started out on my journey as a Pokémon Trainer yet, there was still a possibility that one of my Pokémon would end up being the one to put an end to my life. My thoughts kept going back to my parents and how they were going to react to the news that I had passed away. They did nothing but sip their coffee while arranging the costs associated with the funeral.

I'm sure that I was crying right at this very moment.

I had no idea what the Skarmory was doing, but I saw June turn over on her stomach while she was in excruciating pain. Additionally, a pool of blood was beginning to form around her. She leapt to her feet, but was so dizzy that she quickly collapsed again. She was significantly more powerful than I was.

A miracle took place, and if you had asked me about it a little while after it took place, I would have told you that I was hallucinating it. I have no idea where it came from, but the sight of it was enough to send shivers down my spine and cause my heart to skip a few beats.

A bright orange dragon emerged from the grove of trees that lined the path and took off into the air. I couldn't get a good look at it because it was flying too high for my line of sight, but I did notice that it had a flame on the end of its long tail. I could hear it roaring. The Skarmory let out a screeching sound.

I managed to roll over onto my stomach and make a feeble attempt to crawl towards June, who was panting heavily, but my injured arm eventually gave out. I lifted myself up with the help of my left arm and legs, and then I stumbled towards her. I flopped down next to June and put my hand on her injury. The tip of my finger just missed getting cut. I was able to feel the distinct separation between her skin and her flesh. Her normal core temperature was significantly lower than usual.

The dragon proceeded to land on the ground while facing away from us after it did so. When I looked up at its wings, I could make out the bones because the skin on the edges was lighter than the rest of the wing. As the tail swung back and forth, the flame that was attached to the end of it flickered. The dragon barked despite appearing anxious like a dog would, and it barked.

The Skarmory launched an attack against the dragon. The flame at the end of the dragon's tail suddenly ignited and quickly grew to be three times as large as it had been. The heat was oppressive, and I noticed that my forehead was beginning to sweat. As the flame approached us, June started to make a chirping sound. She wasn't in the best shape, but she was breathing more normally now, which was a good sign.

It appeared as though the dragon was breathing fire. From where I was standing, it appeared as though a column of flame had descended upon the Skarmory. The charred Skarmory was about to fall to the ground when the dragon quickly and efficiently snatched it from the air and placed it within its jaws. The bird was dropped on my head with a loud crunch, and the dragon slung it over his shoulder. Before it came to a stop on the ground, the Skarmory let out a pitiful screech before collapsing.

Someone spoke, I overheard. A young man.

"Oh damn! Are you feeling okay?" It was important, he insisted.

My attention was drawn to the voice. Someone with black hair was coming towards me from the direction in which the dragon had emerged. This person was running towards me. He lowered himself to his knees and moved closer to me. He seized hold of my injured arm. I jerked my shoulder.

"Oh God! I am truly sorry. I can help you." He had seen June. "I am able to assist you with your Torchic as well."

The gentleman was dressed in a green vest that had a number of pockets. He rummaged around in one of the pockets on the side and extracted a small spray bottle in a purple and white colour scheme. He applied it to the wound on my leg and sprayed it three times.

It caused a burning sensation as it bubbled up on the wound. I was in so much pain that I bit the side of my tongue. In addition, he sprayed June. It made her wince.

The unfamiliar person let out a sigh of relief. "Skarmory, you idiot... whatever you are, that creature does not originate from this part of Johto. This is not even close to being a mountainous region."

He took a look at the Skarmory that had been killed. "I suppose a trainer forgot to close the gate to this area. It's a crying shame."

I really felt like standing up. I supported June with the arm that worked the best for me, and I positioned my legs. When the stranger saw me struggling to get up, he reached out and grabbed me around the waist to help.

He reassured me that both you and your Pokémon would be safe. "In spite of the fact that the Pokémon League makes those antibacterial potions for Pokémon, they are also effective when used on humans. Because your Torchic absorbed some of the heat that was generated by my Charizard as well, it received a marginally increased amount of overall power. It is recommended that you take it to a Pokémon Center the next time you find yourself in the vicinity of one."

The stinging sensation that was caused by the potion stopped. I looked closer and noticed that the wound had been covered with an odd, smooth film that was a shade or two darker than the colour of my skin.

Someone unfamiliar with me saw me looking at it. This scar will eventually disappear, but in its place will be a tiny scratch that will remain permanent. He exposed his arm to me by rolling it up and showing it to me. "See?"

I observed a number of scratch marks with a discoloured appearance on the muscles and large veins. This person possessed a lot of strength. He wore a black vest over a white T-shirt, which was paired with black cargo pants and black boots. His face, which was younger than mine but older, had a few scars on it as well.
