บท 34: Another Reward? (part 2)

Traveling back in time a few minutes, Wyatt was questioning the old man.

"What do you mean by making a gamble?" Looking up from the two skills displays, Wyatt gave the old man a curious gaze.

"hahaha got your attention now? It's pretty simple" with a light chuckle, Lachlan pulled out a crumbled up piece of paper before walking over and unfurling it in front of Wyatt.

Glancing at the wrinkled paper, Wyatt realized that it was a map containing some of the nearby towns and villages. As his eyes wandered, eventually his gaze landed on a weird bone symbol near a mountainous region further north.

Noticing the boy had finished examining that map, Lachlan decided to share some details "See that bone symbol? Just a few days ago, one of our younger apprentices was out collecting some sage's tongue that commonly grows in that area."

After checking to make sure Wyatt was still following along, Lachlan continued.

"Sage's tongue is a common herb that can be used in multiple lower rank medical pastes. Since it's one of the easiest beginner ingredients to use for practice, we often send out one of the young rookie mages to resupply our storage"

"When our little apprentice returned, he informed his teacher that he experienced some abnormal events nearing these mountains" Lachlan stated while pointing over to the bone symbol Wyatt had noticed earlier.

"abnormal events? what do you mean?" asked Wyatt, his interest already piqued as he listened along with the story.

"Well to start, he reported seeing some of the local beasts running away from their usual territory and after killing one of those beasts, he noticed a suspicious green substance leaking with its blood"

Following this, with a wave of his hand, an odd vial containing some sort of murky bubbling green liquid appeared in his palm. Handing the vial over for Wyatt to examine he continued.

"Apparently when our apprentice arrived closer to the mountain region in order to study the changes, he found 2 liquid trails leading into some sort of cavern at the base of the mountain. Our apprentice stated that the entrance of the cavern gave him a gross and ominous feeling, so he decided to bring back samples for testing instead of continuing his exploration"

Taking the vial back from Wyatt, Lachlan opened the lid and let a single drop fall onto the ground.

SPLAT

As the green substance hit the ground, a strong putrid smell permeated the air making Wyatt gag in response. After calming his system due to the rotten smell, Wyatt peeked back over at the substance and noticed that the flooring surrounding the area it landed had started darkening almost as if it was burnt.

"After some tests, our apprentice's hunch proved to be correct, this green liquid is a powerful toxin that can easily destroy a person's body from the inside if they aren't treated correctly!" stated Lachlan while using his mana to clear the gross substance from the office room.

Wyatt wasn't surprised by the substances test results, truthfully as soon as he first saw the vial he could somehow tell that it involved some sort of poison.

"The other liquid he brought back turned out to be human blood. I suspect that whoever poisoned the beasts is currently injured and hiding out in that same cavern our little apprentice discovered. I originally planned to go check it out when I had the free time, but since you are here and have a poison affinity perhaps there could be something inside that cave that will prove helpful to you"

Finally, Wyatt understood why the old man called his offering a gamble. Even if he did explore the mountain region, there was no guarantee that he would find any skills or useful information for his poison affinity.

Still, even with the clear negative, Wyatt found the option more interesting than choosing one of the earlier skills.

After thinking through it a bit Wyatt nodded his head and replied"Okay, I'll take your gamble instead, poison skills are too rare to give up this chance!"

Lachlan smiled at the boy's answer before tossing the map over to him. With his decision over, Meriam quickly received the two skill books back before making her exit.

After this, Lachlan informed Wyatt that he should practice his poison control a little longer before deciding to challenge the marked location. Since Lachlan also planned to head outside the tower for a while, he even offered Wyatt to travel with him directly back to his starting city before separating.

Wyatt gladly accepted the old man's offer, and with a wave of his hands, the two disappeared from the office before only appearing hundreds of meters away.

Wyatt was completely shocked as this was his first time teleporting, he couldn't help gasping out in excitement.

Chuckling at the boy's antics, Lachlan once again used his mana to continue their travels.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Completely unbeknownst to our traveling protagonist, outside of the tower an absolute storm of excitement had already begun.

"OH, MY GOD!" one stunned trial challenger suddenly blurted out, but his loud shout was quickly drowned out by the constant wave of others screaming out around him.

"Who is this Twite???"

"I've never seen that username before"

"Another pro has appeared!"

After Hazel's shocking performance, the majority of people in the crowd quickly decided that whoever this Twite person is must also be a well-known pro player. One can only imagine what their faces would have looked like if they knew Wyatt had never touched a competitive game in his entire life.

Far above the crowd, Nikolai was still completely stunned

He had no words to describe the impossible events that had occurred in front of him today, part of him even thought this all had to be a dream and that he would wake up soon. Of course, he knew it wasn't really a dream, but still, he couldn't help having doubt in his heart.

It should be said that just one person getting 4.5 stars was already enough to quickly send a shockwave through all the nearby towns, causing massive excitement. Now that another such score had appeared and on the exact same day as well, even Nikolai couldn't imagine just how far this news might travel.

Not far away from the crowd, a familiar group was also staring at the scoring display.

"Lukas, why hasn't that blue-haired kid come out yet?" asked Harry

"I...."

At this point, everyone except the top 3 had already been teleported back outside the tower.

"Wait now I remember! That username Twite it's the same name as when you fought that dude with blue hair last time!" another boy in the group suddenly announced, much to the horror of the rest of the group.

"Tch... Who cares about a stupid score, When I kill him it will just prove even more how much stronger than him I already am!" Lukas shouted in anger when he noticed his colleagues frightened expressions.

Since the group was far away from the main crowd, no one really picked up on their discussion. Well except for one familiar girl who had been training away from the crowd until recently.

"Twite, huh? interesting..."

This young lady was of course, Hazel Alastair
