“There you are!” Mother said, nearly frantic as we walked through the front doors of the Compound. “We have a million things to do—”

“And we will do them,” I cut her off. “Mother, we had to take care of something important or else we would have been here.”

She nodded, her pleasant demeanor returning. “Is everything alright, dear?”

I nodded, returning her smile. “Everything’s fine. Now, what can we do? We were just on our way up to check on Siren when you stopped us.”

“She’s doing much better,” Mother replied. “But go up and see for yourself. Then, I want you to oversee setting everything up in the Main Dining Room. Your father will marry you both in the auditorium, and then we’ll go across the hall for the reception.” She froze, her eyes suddenly wide. “Oh, my God! I need to speak with Chef Franco!”
