Miguel’s POV.
“Miguel.” Nora burst through the open door of my guest bedroom.
Her hair was slicked back again in a low bun, and there was no evidence of anything we had done mere hours ago. But that’s what our life together had been like for the last year. We thrived inside these four walls. Able to be honest with one another, with us. But outside we were reduced to merely existing. Lying to everyone, including ourselves.
“Nora.”
“The night of the mating ceremony. Who prepared them to return home?”
“What?” I understood her words, but her question startled me.
“Did you prepare them to return to the cabin?”
“No—No… I set out to do so but someone was already waiting for them at the mating stone.”
“Who?”
“Adel’s maid… I think her name is—”
“Calista.”
“What is this about, Nora?” I tried my best to keep my voice even and calm, though my heart rate had picked up.
