บท 14: XIV

When I woke up Aleksi was still beside me. Asleep. His tail laid across both of us giving off a gentle heat. It was a nice feeling and oddly sweet. I needed to get up through. My body screamed at me that something was wrong. Every hair on my body of cell of my being yelled at me to run.

I ran at the sides of the nest. I needed out. I needed out now! If me ripping his tail off didn't wake Aleksi up, then the sound of me clawing my way up the plates did. My nails tore from the grip I held. Run. Hide. Survive. Something dark and hungry was close to the edge of my mental awareness. Aleksi pulled himself from the nest before pulling me out.

Without thinking I ripped the dress Kanno and Mina had given me to wear. I yanked on my riding clothes and bolted for the door. Get out. Get out. Get out. At the front of the house I felt it stronger. It was getting closer. Without even considering it I started to broadcast the warning. Only the Jivka could pick it up though. I could hear them. They knocked against the building that held them. My sense of fear sending their own into overdrive.

I looked towards the source of the feeling. I shifted on my feet as Aleksi looked at me. Then I ran. I ran straight to the Jivka. They were trapped and more my people than any of the Asura here. Around me the sounds of the panicking Jivka had woken the other Asura. Mothers and Fathers held smaller ones in their arms. Everyone running towards the Jivka. Run. Get out. Hide!

There was no thinking in what I was doing. Like most Unbonded when I felt something else my instincts said I was prey. The Unbounded were to weak to be anything else. Aleksi followed close at my heels. I heard him talking but none of it went through the haze. Run. Survive.

I pushed my way through the Asura already gathered in front of the doors to the Jivka. The same doors I threw open. With the links firm my mind yelled at them to run. Run we did. Crim crouched next to me only a second. It was long enough for me to climb up and get settled. Adrenaline was pumping through me.

We took off in the opposite direction. Even lost in the fear the pack knew to run away from the danger. A number of others caught on to what was happening. "Danger!" someone yelled. I saw other Jivka had stopped for their Asura before they followed me and Crim. Conet was close beside Crim. Aleksi on her back. His eyes locked on me. Children and wingless ones were quickly placed on the Jivka.

They responded fast to the threat of danger. Every Jivka grabbing their share and following close at Crim's heels. Run. Run. Run. Get out. Survive. Hide. It stopped. The feeling disappeared and I went on high alert. Fangless. Clawless. Weaponless. The pack hard stopped. The bigger Jivka that held no passengers circled the rest of us. My eyes scanned the surroundings.

No one spoke. Not when the Jivka were on high alert. There! The threat had circled around the right of the village. As one the group took off towards the left. What was it? Who was it? It was gaining on us my link to the pack letting me know how close to the rear it was. I looked over my shoulder. We couldn't escape. It was on our trail.

Jivka were peaceful but they were not pushovers. With the undeniable fact we would have to fight staring us down the pack rallied. Those carrying children moved to the back along with the young Jivka. I pressed myself flat against Crim. We were at the front. As the main link in the chain there was only one place I could be. Jivka all around me crouched down and growled. Threat. Fight. Survive.

The desire to live was strong. However with so many linked to me I felt crowded under they weight. They had a bigger desire to protect the defenseless Asura than to live. That was a feeling a could recognize and acknowledge. My own protective personality relished in the mix of emotion that came from having someone to protect. It was one I thought had died in me.

To my amazement what appeared before me wasn't some unknown creature. It was a pack of Kira! My amazement made the Jivka uncertain. They held their positions but stopped growling.

"I can feel you in there... Come out little sister!"

I knew that voice. Jennifer, the Needle. Her three Hid Kira looked at the group of Jivka unimpressed. "What are you doing here Jennifer?" I rose my head from my position on Crim.

"It's time to come home. Tommie has agreed to the match," Jennifer hadn't changed. She wore her colors of black and silver on her own riding gear. Her hair was dyed red, her natural color was dirty blonde.

"He shall have to marry another then. I am already wed." The smile on her face twisted.

"Wed?" Her voice seeped in venom. "To who we are the only two humans on this fucking planet!" She'd been sent alone.

"I did not marry a human. Never did care for how they looked."

"Quit this stupidity! You have a duty to this family!"

"You are no family of mine! I am a Blake. A bastard! An unclaimed child! I have no family! No duty! Let's be honest you came here because Tommie agreed to marry you. You who has never wanted that male! So instead you came here without anyone's order so you could drag me back and force me to take your position!" I yelled. "I refuse. I am a married woman in the eyes of the UPD and mated by Galatic law. Go home Jennifer. You will find nothing for you here."

My anger hummed in my vains. The Jivka felt it and were at the ready. "You fucking Bitch!" Jennifer yelled. She launched her self from the back of her Bonded Kira. The Jivka rushed at the Kira at the mental order I had given them. If we take them out she would be child's play. With the three Kira largely out numbered it didn't take long. With the loss of her Bonded, Jennifer who had been chasing me slowed to normal human speeds.

Speeds I had been fighting at my whole life. I jumped from Crim's back and fought her head on. I used a large stick to combat her small swords. She got a swipe in at my left arm but failed to think about the fact normal humans got hurt more from blunt force than slices. The slice to my arm was my sacrifice to land a heavy blow to the left side of her ribs.

"Don't worry sister... I'm sure the UPD will give you back to Mother after they get through with you." I had heard the crunch. She dropped a sword to clench at her side. She was holding at least two broken ribs. The Jivka around us stared her down with me.

Without her Kira she was no predator. She was a pampered little brat who needed some fucking discipline. I slammed the branch into her knee, her arm, her side. "How does it feel?" I asked. "To be the one hurt instead of the one doing it. You are weak. You were always weak!" She had done similar things to me for years. I stopped before I took it too far.

I looked at the bloody branch in my hand and threw it aside. "And I'm just like you apparently," I laughed, "I will drop you off at the station to alert the UPD representative of what you've done. You can inform the family I will have nothing to do with them any longer. What affections I had for them died years ago." I looked at the Asura none of them looked at me in horror. They did not see a monster.

I sent safety back to the majority of the pack. They began to make their way back to the Village. Some of the hunters stayed on back with their Jivka as well as some flyers. I asked the free Jivka to take back the three bodies of the Kira. They did not deserve their fate. They were unfortunate to belong to my sister.

I tied her up with some vines and denied her her swords back. I placed on the back of Crim and began to head to the station. Seeing me followed by a group of Asura and Jivka had station guards on high alert and the representative rushing out. I tossed my sister at his feet without ceremony. "Jennifer Gink, Daughter of Carmen Hill and William Gink, she is here without invite and attacked the Shaka Clan. I am Avabelle Dragoste, Mate of Aleksi Dragoste. I used to live in the same family unit at this female."

"She came here illegally and attacked the locals?" the representative asked. Her voice clearly dripping with displeasure.

"She did," I heard Aleksi say as he came up beside me. "She is lucky my mate got hold of her before we did. Otherwise she would not be alive." I looked at him to find nothing but soft eyes looking at me.

Sorry for the change in posting. I wrote this chapter and several others weeks ago but couldn't bring myself to post them. I started this book when I was happy and in the contented glow of a long term relationship. It has now come to an end. I doubt many of you care but it's hard to write about happily in love characters when my own love life has shattered around me.

I'm gonna try. I want to thank you all for the support! I will continue to write this story to whatever end.
