Isla nodded slowly, and her wolf growled encouragement, relaxing in her confinement to wait for Isla.

Isla closed her eyes and took a deep breath, focusing within herself.

After about thirty seconds, she realized that while in theory this seemed easy, it wasn't.

She had spent so long avoiding her wolf, so long trying to pretend she didn't exist, she had lost the cage.

For a wolf that always seemed so close to the surface, she wasn't easy to find.

Isla continued to breathe deeply, trying to unwind the maze that was her mind.

Finally, she sensed she was on the right track.

Her wolf perked up in her cage, sensing Isla.

That was when Isla realized she had never been this close to her wolf.

She wouldn't have been able to ignore the power, the pull, that resided there if the cage had been closer to the forefront of her mind.

No, she had hidden it well, all those years ago.
