If Ronan didn't want to see them, then he was an incredible actor. His smile was as bright and forceful as the sun as he opened the door to them, ushering them inside with warm greetings and a happy bubble of chatter.
If Lucien hadn't known better, if he hadn't seen how much his Daddy had been worrying about him, he wouldn't have believed for a second that anything had been wrong yesterday.
That scared him. Had him wondering how many times he'd thought Ronan was okay and he really wasn't. Had him thinking he was a bad friend for not being able to see through the glamour. But even as he studied him, squinting at him from every angle, there were no cracks to his resolve.
