Isabella, who was having a warm time conversing with the women of her class as they shared each other's empathy, stopped talking when Juliana presented herself before them, and before Isabella knew it, her mother-in-law had gripped her wrist firmly, but her smile and curt expression remained intact as she exchanged greetings with the younger women.

"I need to have a word with my daughter-in-law if you don't mind." Juliana's fake smile was one that could easily be interpreted, and without waiting for their response, she dragged Isabella away from their conversation committee.

"Mother, what are you--" Isabella's voice trailed off when she was brought to the empty corner at the backside of the Courtyard, and Juliana finally freed her wrist after scrutinizing the area and confirming they were alone.
