บท 94: Chapter 94
Since this was an official battle that was to be recorded in the Alliance's records, there was a certain format to follow. Gym battles could be fought with a 3v3 or 6v6 format that was decided by the challenger's preference.
For this battle, Jax had to choose the 3v3 format has he currently only had four pokemons. His friends offered to lend their main pokemon for Jax to use but he declined them. Not only was it much harder to order someone else's pokemon around, he did not have enough time to plan effective battle strategies for the pokemons should he had agreed. Plus, he trusted his own pokemons and how much each one had train to reach their current level.
"Vioarr, you're up first, buddy." Sending out Vioarr first was always the plan. Not only was he a natural tank, the purple dinosaur was a walking nuke! Jax had no intention of whittling Evans' pokemons HP down and then sweeping them away. No! To win, and to win by a very large margin as per the bet, Jax wanted to go big or go home.
"Mhm. I can tell how much effort you put into raising this guy. Like his species, your Nidoking has the bearing of a king! Therefore, it is only appropriate that I respond in kind." Throwing out his own ball, Evans' pokemon did not lose out to the humongous Nidoking at all! "Tyranitar, show them why you do not lose out to those legendaries at all!"
As soon as the Tyranitar touched the ground, the battle had officially started. As per the plan, Vioarr immediately casted his signature combo [Protection (M)+Endure (M)]. Since both moves were at the master rank, it did not take much time at all to fully prep them, giving him more time to start prepping for the next plan!
While the Nidoking was preparing whatever move it was going to use next, Evans was not sitting still neither. His Tyranitar had Sand Stream so the whole stage was filled with a sandstorm blowing about. Using the climate to his advantage, Evans had Tyranitar hide in the raging storm and sneak up to the Nidoking so that it could deliver a devasting [Ice Punch (M)]!
BOOM!
A direct hit!
As the shockwave from the blast of the impact spread out, the sand was blown away revealing…a doll? With years of experience, Evans naturally figured out that Nidoking must have used Substitute! Besides that, there was actually one…two…three…five other dolls in the area! To know why it was possible for there to be five dolls in the area, we have to go back to when both trainer's were vision impaired by the sandstorm.
As a level 9 aura and psychic ability user, this raging sandstorm had no affect on Jax. He could clearly see the aura of the other trainer and pokemon and using his psychic powers, he shared his vision with Vioarr like how he did back at the academy competition. Therefore, while Tyranitar was sneaking up on Nidoking, Jax had Vioarr use [Double Team (M)+Substitute (M)]!
At max level, Double Team not only raised his evasiveness by two stages, the after images left behind were more like clones, much like the ones a certain yellow hair ninja use to perform! The only difference was that these clones were just stationary but each one took the appearance of the skill used directly after it! Since Substitute was the move used right after, each clone took on the appearance of a poke doll!
Hiding with the other four dolls, Vioarr planned his next course of action. With superior star stats, he was planning on going big. Of course, his target was a supreme being who had way more experience in combat than he did so Vioarr did not slack off on the power he was packing into his next combo move.
Tyranitar was seen attacking one doll after the next trying to destroy each one hoping to find the real Nidoking behind one of the dolls. Not wanting to waste his energy, Tyranitar only performed a normal attack against the dolls so it took multiple hits to destroy each one. One…two…just as Tyranitar was about to destroy his third one, he felt a terrifying amount of energy behind him!
BOOM!
The big green dinosaur could not turn 180 degrees in time with its bulky build so it could only take the attack head on! Or in this case, back on!
Taking the combination move of [Focus Energy (M)+Double Kick (M)+Rock Smash (M)], the Tyranitar was seen wobbling around before falling down!
Jax heaped a sigh of relief that the fight had been won so easily and went to go congratulate Vioarr when the referee blew her whistle.
Weee! "Challenger! Return to your designated spot or you will be penalized! The battle is still on!" Hearing the referee, Jax was puzzled but after turning around and observing the fallen green beast, saw that the Tyranitar had not been knocked out yet!
'What? It survived that combo attack!? 1 HP? Ugh, must have been an item. Focus Band or Sash, most likely.'
The veteran trainer kept his cool as this time knowing that his pokemon could survive at least one attack. Even if he did not think much of the young trainer, it was not his motto to underestimate any of his opponents, even if said opponent was only a child of 7 or 8 years old.
"Tyranitar, use Stomp on the ground and go into the sky. Let's show these kids that battles are more than just stacking strong moves together." Hearing his trainer, Tyranitar immediately gave a powerful Stomp onto the ground sending himself high into the ceiling.
Even if Jax could 'see' the Tyranitar, he had no way of ordering Vioarr to follow the green monster up that high! Sure, he could have Vioarr perform a move to launch himself up but then what? Have an aerial battle!? Nidoking is a Ground-type for crying out loud!
As the young duo was helpless, Tyranitar finished whatever he was doing up there and was coming down at an incredibly fast speed! 'Oh boy, we might be in trouble…'
