บท 21: Chapter 21
After bashing himself about his slight blunder, Jax cooled down his racing heart rate and collected his thoughts. Not only was one Metagross already a headache, now he had to deal with two! Not to even mention the Beldums! Although they didn't contribute much towards the fight earlier, they were a powerful deterrent. 'Okay, Jax. C'mon, let's think about this carefully. Earlier we had six enemies but now we only have five. Yeah! It's one less pokemon to worry about, although I'd take on three Beldums over a single Metagross any day.' Finishing his thoughts, Jax noticed that the Metagross was talking to the sleeping on. Straining his ears to hear, Jax picked up on a couple of the words.
"…happened?"
"…man child…fight…escaped…"
"…children?"
"…dead…confuse…killed…"
"…want…DEAD!"
Piecing the parts of the conversation together, Jax figured that the mega-Metagross was recounting its encounter with Vioarr and himself. While in its state of confusion, it must have killed two of the Beldums. And now, they want the cause of their grief to die, namely, himself and Vioarr. 'Shit! Shit! Shit! This is not good! Thankfully they don't know where I am. Unfortunately, I can't leave either.' Jax had cold sweat throughout his body, his situation looking more and more dire.
"…hungry…eat…leftovers?"
'Wait! No! Don't come over here!' Jax was horrified that the mega-Metagross might come over and start eating the pokemon, the one he was currently using to eavesdrop!
"…ate…berries…with…kids…"
"…save…room…eat…man…child…"
'No! I don't taste good! I don't want you to eat me! The only one who can is Ally!' Even in the direst of situations, Jax still had his mind running towards the gutter. He spent his past life with a weak heart which meant no physical activities. The smallest thing to get his heart rate up could very be the reason he dies which also meant no interactions with females of any kind! Although he had a girlfriend in the next room over, it was only in name! He never even got to hold her hand! So, imagine being reborn into his fantasy world where people aged much slower, looked more beautiful and handsome and he had a completely healthy heart and an even healthier libido?
"…sleep…find…tomorrow…"
"…fighting…chasing…tired…"
"…stone…next…egg…"
Listening to the two Metagross, Jax was elated to find out that they were going to wait until the morning to come and even look for traces of him. The even better part? Metagross was going to take off the Metagrossite and put it right next to the egg! The very same egg that he was planning on "kidnapping"!
After an hour of waiting and then another hour to make sure the coast was clear, only then did Jax crawl his way out of the comfort of his makeshift shelter. Tiptoeing his way across the room, Jax was nearly past the sleeping Metagrosses when one of them turned over in their sleep, its arm swinging out along with it!
'Damn! That almost hit me right on my head! If I didn't notice and duck in time, don't even talk about tomorrow, they could have had me for a midnight snack!'
Sighing in relief, Jax continued on his heist getting ever closer to his goal. Once Jax was finally within arms reach of the egg and stone, a Beldum woke up from its sleep and flew towards Jax! With upmost speed, Jax did a sidestep and reached into his sub-space pulling out one of his Nanab berries! Throwing it towards the flying Beldum directly into its mouth, Jax could visibly see its movement speed slowing down. Taking this chance, Jax napped the egg and stone before running off towards the tunnel!
Once inside the tunnel, Jax knew that he didn't have much time before Beldum alerted his parents about the kidnapping and stolen jewelry so taking out Vioarr's Pokeball, he summoned him and quickly got on his back. The duo then ran down the tunnel as fast as they could while Vioarr used Thrash on the cave walls to make it block the path and Dig to make pitfalls. While it couldn't do much against the moving fortresses, at least it'll by time for the duo to run away a little further.
Finally, after getting out of the tunnel, the duo made their way down the tunnel that the first Metagross had came from hoping it would actually lead them outside. The duo applied the same strategy causing the tunnel to collapse on itself. The holes that were dug up were used as a safety measure since no one would expect to clear a path only to fall into a pitfall! Plus, at the bottom of those pits were spikes that Vioarr put down with Toxic Spikes.
This tunnel wasn't quite as long as the one leading towards Metagross' base so they were finally out of the tunnel when Jax spotted something out of sight. Along the cave wall was an actual painting of some kind! Throughout all the caves and tunnels they've explored today, there hasn't been a single art décor of any kind. The pokemons in this cave system also didn't have any artistic value. Diglett and Dugtrio had no arms to paint with, same with Steelix and the Beldums. The Metagrosses definitely weren't the type to decorate their home; they literally had a pokemon graveyard not even 10 yards away from their beds! The only conclusion, my parents, thought Jax.
Jax was certain if he followed the paintings, it would lead them to where his parents stayed. To the place where he can find traces of his dad. But behind them were two killing fortresses! 'Do I take the chance of a lifetime or run away with my life? ARGH! Why is this so hard!?'
