บท 91: A new dungeon discovery (17)
(Tess's POV - still)
"Urg.. why is there.. still more, they just keep on.. coming, I've killed more.. than 50 wolves and that's without a doubt." I said between pants.
My sword has long been stained by the blood of my enemies and my wrists were beginning to ache a little.
'I wonder if the others are doing alright.. what about Kiera..' I began to think of the others but got interrupted by another wolf jumping at me, "this is getting a bit tedious. I've been fighting wolves this whole time, it's strange no salamanders have joined in yet. Kiera.. she's been fighting that ogre the whole time that I've been fighting as well, she must be really tired by now to keep up with an enemy like that. I need to help her."
I slashed at the wolf, using water to encase my blade and refine it to make it sharper. "Stop jumping at me, haven't you seen how the others ended up?"
I took a small glance at at the area around which was devoid of wolf corpses.
'Oh yeah, I burned them all.'
"Haven't you seen them all get burned?" I said as I stabbed down at the wolf's shoulder, slicing off its leg.
"*whine*"
"Don't whine at me, it makes me feel guilty." I said, severing it's head from body.
'How many are left?'
I looked around and counted all the wolves, '1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 12.. 13.. 14.. 23. A total of 23 wolves. That should be fine as long as no more join in.' I looked a little more but only saw some in the distance with salamanders.
One of the salamanders died from.. ice?
'That's where the others are fighting then so I can only assume that's why the salamanders haven't came over but they aren't doing a good job at keeping the wolves with them.'
The wolves, in my area of the volcano, were at a distance away from me, eyeing me up. They knew I was stronger yet still wanted to fight me.
'They should've ran away by now.. is the ogre influencing the monsters in the surroundings?' I shook my head at that though, 'that's absurd.'
I formed a bow made of water that I made so condense that I could hold it and maintain its form with mana. Then I proceeded to create arrows of water and made them as sharp as possible. The bow was kind of like oobleck, solid when under enough pressure, in my case from the pressure of my mana surrounding it to keep it compressed, and liquid when the pressure is released.
Sheathing my sword and taking hold of my bow, I drew back and arrow.
I adjusted my aim a little, making sure it lined up and fired the arrow.
It flew across the area between one of the wolves and I, piercing its body before it could react. The wolf stumbled and growled at me, baring it's fangs.
Other wolves noticed what happened and didn't wish for it to happen to them so they decided to charge at me as a group.
'I need to hurry up.'
I formed many arrows and directed them at the wolves without using the bow and then created more arrows and drew them back with my bow before releasing them.
The arrows that were fired using the bow were significantly stronger than those that hadn't been used with the bow. The reason being was because there was more force behind it than when being guided with just mana.
The arrows rained down on the wolves, hitting and missing but those fired from my bow didn't miss. Not one. One by one the wolves slowly diminished in numbers as they got struck by the arrows, either demobilised or killed when hit. Others, the ones that continued their charge, were either uninjured or had small cuts along their body.
'Only 13 still charging at me.'
I threw the bow away from myself making it disappear and grabbed the hilt of my sword, drawing it and holding it steady.
The sword was visibly chipped in some areas across the blade with dried blood splashed across it, including the guard and pommel.
I took a step forward with one foot and then jumped up into the air. I spun around and slashed my blade diagonally down on the wolf in front, easily sliding through its flesh despite the blade being dulled out from being used too much. The only reason I could still cut through the wolves with relative ease was from the use of my water magic.
My feet landed on the ground and I did a low spinning sweep with my legs before rotating my upper body and slashing at their necks with a horizontal swing.
Blood sprayed out of their neck causing them to die as I quickly jumped up to avoid another wolf jumping at my legs. I held my arm up and formed a water spear before falling down from my jump and stabbing the spear head through the wolf's pelvis and then making the spear dissipate to nothingness. The hole, created from the spear, leaked blood in a constant flow, trailing across the ground as the wolf attempted to stand up.
I jumped back to avoid another wolf and then dashed back in and stabbed my sword through its skull. The other wolf that was still on the ground bleeding out through the hole at its pelvis then followed in a similar death but with an arrow of water piercing through its skull instead.
'This sword is pretty much blunt. I'll just use a sword made from my water magic instead then, it'll be easier that way.'
I twirled my sword and sheathed it to then form a sword of water in my hands, much like I did with the bow, 'my MP will drain faster while wielding this sword but whatever.'
I glanced at the other wolves that stood back a little and growled at me as a group.
"I'm in love with your singing, you should form a band." I said with a small chuckle before returning my focus on fighting.
'4 left.'
The wolves snarled at me from my comment and they used some magic on themselves. One wolf covered their claws in flames to increase its damage and another did the same while the other two just covered their whole body.
A wolf bit the air and a jaw made of flames flew out and flung itself at me. I quickly slashed down at the flames to break the spell which made steam rise from the fire and water making contact.
I then jumped forwards into the steam, using it as slight coverage, and thrust my water sword into the wolf, dragging the sword upwards and killing the wolf.
The others charged at me during that time and one tried biting me, the other two using their claws to try dig into my skin or cut me directly.
I jumped upwards, causing the wolves attacks to be directed at each other instead of myself.
"That wasn't the greatest idea now was it?" I said as I landed on one of the wolves backs.
I then stabbed my sword down through its head and jumped off its body. "Last two~" I hummed, creating arrows and used them to kill the last ones.
'Now that I've done should I check on Kiera or the rest of the grou- who am I kidding, I'm checking on Kiera, the others aren't as important.'
I dispelled my water sword to save some MP which was running very low and ran to Kiera's direction. I wasn't running at full speed due to the wolf that bit my ankle, making me struggle a little.
"Such a stupid injury. I should've paid more attention." I groaned.
'I hope Kiera is okay, that ogre seemed very strong and she did say it was an A - Rank monster. Scarlet said Kiera might be able to deal with it but that's a MIGHT not a she WILL. Mio and Iris should have helped her from the side lines anyway.' I sighed,
'I know she would be able to kill it in her true form but she is under cover as a human so she can't reveal herself, just like me, or it'll be very troublesome.'
I ran as fast as I could, panting as I did so.
'I don't hear much fighting going o-'
"*GRAAAAAAAAAAGH*"
'Damn it, the ogre seems to be alive but I don't hear anything else.. Kiera! Did it kill her? It better not have or I won't hesitate to transform and kill it myself. Kiera.. please be okay..'
I tried running faster but it made little difference and I was quickly approaching where Kiera and the ogre should be fighting.
There were splashes of blood along the ground even at this distance, I wonder why.
"Kiera!" I shouted as I ran up a small hill that overlooked the area Kiera was at, "are you alright?!"
I got to the top and looked down, 'oh my lord.'
"Kiera!"
Even though my ankle was screaming at me in pain I jumped down from the hill and ran to Kiera as fast as I possibly could.
"Kiera!"
