When he heard harlow's question caleb immediately stood up and turned to him with a grave expression on his face, how did he know such a thing, he knew there was something suspicious about this old from the start.
Harlow raised his hand in front of him before speaking.
"No need to get excited so quickly, let me explain before you do anything."
Caleb remained silent and still, curious to hear what he had to say.
"Well...for starters, contrary to what you may have noticed I'm blind but I can still see things my way."
Caleb looked at him with a puzzled look not sure to understand what he had just said. Harlow then pointed one of his eyes with his finger and caleb looked carefully at the eye it was then that he noticed that in the eye which was whitish due to the fact that he was blind there were several veins of different color that crossed his eye.
" What you see is my Semblance, despite the fact that I am blind it allows me to continue to see most of the things around me and more. "
"If I had to describe how it works well let's say most of what I see is black but I can still tell the look and shape of things because they are represented to me by white lines that take the shape of things that surrounds me even though I can't see their true color."
Hearing that, Caleb now understood how he had managed to see him despite his handicap, but that still didn't explain the fact that he knew about his reincarnation as a Grimm.
Harlow took a moment before resuming his explanation.
"Now regarding the fact that I know your somewhat particular situation, I told you that my Semblance allowed me to see more things than other people and well, I can see the souls of living beings.
It's like flames of color inside each one unique to each person, I said that I no longer saw the colors around me but the colors of the souls I can see them well and that's how when I saw your soul in the body of this grimm that I understood that your situation was not normal even if I must admit that I was surprised when I saw you, I saw a lot of strange thing in my life but this is by far the strangest."
Caleb was thinking about everything that had just said to him, how on Remnant did he manage to run into potentially the only person who could understand who he really was, it was a goddamn lucky thing he had there.
He sat down again now that he understood better why he knew such a thing. Harlow turned to him and said.
"So? How did you end up becoming a grimm?"
Caleb looked at him for a moment without saying anything.
"Oh! Yes that's true sorry, you probably can't speak... well whatever reason you became like that, there must be a good one, now it depends on you to find out why!"
Harlow rose from his chair before turning to the front door.
"It's getting late, I'd better go to sleep like the two little ones, it's because I'm not very young anymore! I don't know what you're planning to do, you can stay here with the children if you wish it, after all this I haven't had a company for a while or you can leave with peace of mind, I will take care of them properly but something tells me that these two little ones have already become attached to you, the decision is yours."
After saying that Harlow went back into the cabin and closed the door leaving Caleb alone with his thoughts.
What should he do now, stay here or go somewhere else in search of Grimm in order to become more powerful, he who in his old life was never tied to anyone, living alone and fending for himself. It has always been like this and there is no reason for it to change.
Caleb stood up ready to leave when Harlow's words came to mind, "They're already attached to you!" Why did he say that, they haven't known each other for a long time and he's a grimm now so he doesn't see why it would change anything that he stays here but if he stayed here he could be with people who are not afraid of the fact that he is a grimm.
He remained motionless for a moment before sitting down again, unable to decide. He closed his eyes to concentrate, but the longer he kept them closed the more he could feel his consciousness slipping away.
When he opened his eyes again he was back in the space he was in before.
"Do you really think you can stay with them?"
A voice that was now familiar to him rang out and he turned to face the woman with her starkly white skin and black robe.
"You! What do you want from me for bringing me here every time?"
"What do I want? I thought I was clear the last time we saw each other. What I want…is you."
Caleb frowned upon hearing that.
"Look, I don't know what exactly you want from me but I don't intend to be yours or anyone else's so you better forget about it and move on!
When he said that he turned and started to walk away, no matter where he went the farthest from her was the best. He took three steps when he felt something grab his leg. He looked down to see a Grimm's hand holding him, suddenly several other hands appeared, grabbing his other leg as well as his arms and head completely paralyzing him.
"What the fuck is this shit!"
For her part, the woman walked quietly towards him before being only a few centimeters away from each other.
"Do you really think the choice is yours? Your destiny was decided the moment you reincarnated."
"Who the hell are you?"
"Me? Well I guess I can tell you…I'm Salem the queen of grimms and therefore your queen."
"You? My queen? You can always dream, it will never happen!"
"And yet it is already the case, you became mine the moment you reincarnated like all the other grimms." she said while placing her hand on caleb's cheek gently squaring it with her thumb while having a smirk on her face
"No chance! I won't become one of those brainless beasts!"
"Why? Because you think staying with that old man and those two brats is going to change anything? You're a grimm now, the sworn enemy of mankind, one of my minions, you can't change that!"
"I'm not like the others! I know that I may not be able to live with other human beings anymore....but I won't become one of your killing machines either!"
"And what makes you say that? You think you're different because you have a soul, but what do you think will happen when your grimm nature takes over? Will you be able not to slaughter this poor old man and those two kids who seem to care about you?"
At that moment Caleb didn't know what to answer, his gaze was lost, thinking about what she had just said. What will happen if this ever happens? Will he be able to control himself?
Seeing Caleb disturbed by his words, Salem approached his ear and whispered.
"All you have to do is give yourself to me and become who you really are."
At this moment a white flash arises in the middle of them making Salem move back as well as making disappear the hands which held Caleb.
" WHAT IS THAT ?!" shouted salem annoyed to be interrupted during her discussion with caleb.
The white light was so powerful that the entire void was illuminated. Caleb put his hands in front of him so as not to be dazzled, when he opened his eyes again he was no longer in the void and salem had disappeared.
He looked ahead to see that he was on a hill, in front of him was a woman with a white cape and a black dress that had her back to him. She turned to look at him with a comforting smile.
When he sees her, he recognizes the woman he had seen when he was reincarnated, but he has no idea who she is. Suddenly the flash of light reappeared dazzling Caleb who struggled to open his eyes again but when he did he found he was back in his grimm body lying next to the cabin.
What had just happened, who was this woman, who the hell is this salem and why was she so obsessed with him? Several questions to which he did not have the answers but for the moment only one was really important.
What should he do, stay here with harlow, ren and nora or leave to be alone again but make sure he doesn't hurt anyone.
