[ Song: Darkside – Oshins, Hael ]
I can tell how shocked he is by this information with how his entire body stiffens and his breath catches. And I swear I can hear the small, almost inaudible "no" coming from his lips.
I throw my arms around him and bury my face in his chest. "Please, Gio. Give me a chance to explain." I pause for a second but then decide I don't want to wait for his response, so I keep talking. "I didn't know what I was in for when he told me to work at The Manor. I was desperate to save my mom. I didn't know what else to do. Please—"
"Shut up." His voice is just above a whisper.
"Gio…" I sob, clinging onto him and tightening my arms. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Shut up. Get off me," he says, but he doesn't attempt to push me away or even touch me. It breaks my heart.
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT leave a comment in my other books about what you read in Black Heart to avoid spoiling it for other readers. Some readers may not read the series in order, and that's okay, but I request that you keep what's in GBH only in GBH. If it were you, you wouldn't want others ruining your reading experience, would you? ... Thank you very much.
*****I've had this scene in my head for more than two years now. I can't even begin to say how incredibly hard it is for me to write this, which is why it took me time. But now that I've done it, I'm relieved...at the same time heartbroken. Now who wants to drink with me?*****
