บท 2: Maybe I should have read the Terms and Conditions...

For hours I flew through nothingness, or at least it seemed like hours it's hard to measure time purely through mental calculations.

*ding*

As the chime echoed in my ears my vision became white, as my eyes were exposed to light for the first time since I was bound. As my eyes adjusted, I noticed that I was in a hall, surrounded by humans, which is when I realised something horrific. I was stuck in a human body. I couldn't see much about it, but it seemed tall, pale and scrawny. And based on the ages of those around me, young, around 16-20 years of age.

*Attention User: You have 1 message from Solarim*

'Hmm that fucker, I kinda wanna ignore the message. Calling me a dog."

*Opening Message*

"Oi wait what?"

"Hey there Fenris, I'm sure you're confused by the whole, being human thing. If you have any complaints, too bad, you already agreed."

Grumbling because I couldn't argue with his faultless logic I continued to listen.

"Every one of you divine beings has been given a human host and restored to the base level of the human race. Meaning if you want to hunt down Odin, you're gonna have to regain some of your strength, a process I made easier for you in my creation of the system. While you may not be familiar with the general system, its enumerated values should make it easier to see and select your progress. Additionally, you can complete quests for XP and rewards."

Taking a look at the 'system,' I understood what he meant.

"...Below average? I'm weaker than a village child. At least I don't have to worry about being bound up again, at least not by those of similar level." ' I wonder why I don't have a class.

"Children of Sankor City, thank you for your patience. Now we shall pray for Solarim and Noctaris to bless this generation with classes that will allow our city to prosper against its foes."

'Yeah there is no way I'm bowing my head to that prick, and I don't know his sister, she could be more annoying than the Frost Giants, or Jotenheim from home.'

*Ding! Class received*

Class: Fenris

'That's not a class that's just my name. I get that I'm trying to regain my previous power but they could have at least given me something I could explain to others.'

After receiving our classes, the hordes of youth left the hall and headed back to their homes, chattering excitedly about their stats and class.

*Smack* I glared at the figure that struck my back and recognised him, not from my world, but from this one. 'It seems the host's memories have begun being transferred to me now that I've taken control.'

"Benji, do that again and I'll smack you back," the boy was Fionn's best friend, and while extremely talkative, and constantly asking for favours, he was the only friend he had. 'What a depressing thought.'

"So Fionn, reckon you'll be able to pass the academy's entrance exam, we've only got 2 weeks and we have to reach level 5. Hey, what's your class anyway? Mine's barbarian. Though apparently some of the others have had really good luck this year, Milani is an Elementalist and Hugo is a magus. It's gonna be hard standing out with them around as if it wasn't hard enough already with them being nobles. Anyway, I'll catch up to you later I've gotta get ready to begin my training."

As the chubby figure disappeared around the corner I released the sigh I'd been holding in while he talked. After millennia alone, Benji was too much. Maybe I'd get used to it, maybe not. Humans confuse me at the best of times.

Heading through the streets that led to my small house, I sorted through the memories of Fionn. My new family was small, just a mom, father and myself. Looking through the memories I realised that the host hated his family. Not because they beat him or were alcoholics, but an accumulation of emotional abuse over the years. His father, a busy worker was essentially absent from his life, while his mother, though physically abusive when he was younger, transitioned to emotional manipulation as he grew taller.

"Lucky, no one's home," I said heading up to my room and packing an outdoor travel back, just enough for a day or two and some money I found in the coin purse. There's no way I'm going to let my revenge get stopped because I couldn't get into a stupid mortal school. Leaving a note on the bench saying my class was a melee class. 'I'm really gonna have to come up with a pseudo-class I can use to disguise my identity, lest those fuckers that bound me up and run after hearing that I'm attending the school.' Grabbing a kitchen knife, a mallet and the bag I ducked out the door.

The smell of the market hit me far before it was in sight, the odour of sweat, cooked meat and medicines filled the air. Finding the weapons store took longer than I had assumed, not because it was far, but because the crowds were full of others my age, also preparing to begin their levelling. Entering into the musty room packed with racks of weapons, from long spears and halberds to parrying daggers and morningstars. While a few gleamed under the light from a fresh polish, most were dull, with blunt edges and evidence of use. Looking at the selection of weapons I realised that whichever weapon I select, will need to remain useful when my stats increase. Imagining the use of a flail spinning out of control made me cringe. With a middling 12 gold coins on my person, I couldn't afford any of the weapons that had been recently maintained, and despite my age, I'd never had use for a weapon. This limited my choices further as any weapons that would require finesse like a rapier were immediately a no. Looking at the swords I saw a simple, bland-looking longsword and picked it up, and while I could imagine myself using it, the weight was worrying as it was quite light even with my pathetic stats. "Something a bit heavier but with similar versatility..."

"You mean like a bastard sword?" a small middle-aged man said from my side.

"A what??"

"A bastard- sword or a hand and a half sword is the middle ground between a greatsword, which is too slow and heavy but holds great power, and a longsword, with its speed. You can use them one-handed too if you need to which is useful, but they're pretty difficult to maneuver with any grace."

"Perfect, how much is it?"

"Well, a longsword will cost 5 gold and the bastard an extra 3.

Taking into consideration my need for some protective clothing the extra 3 was significant, however, I understood that neither me nor my host had any formal sword training, so the brute force approach would definitely be more feasible. Walking to the armourer with 4 gold coins I was not optimistic, however even hide armour can stop a glancing blow. While the weaponsmith was busy, he had at least prepared, unlike the nearly emptied-out armour merchant, who carried only a set of full plate armour, which covers the whole body in steel with the detriment of inhibiting movement and vision, and a thick, forest green gambeson, which was essentially a really thick cloth coat. Groaning in discontent, I exited the shop dressed in green and 2 gold poorer with my preparations done.

"If I can't break even over the next few days I might end up just robbing the other idiots in the forest." Oh well, this is my first hunt in a while I better savour it.
