บท 6: Ever after
"I still can't believe it's been 7months already", Tariro remarked to Tinashe as they lay in bed.
"Time flies, said Tinashe with a smile thinking of that day at high court.
"To think you came for me, against all odds", said Tariro.
"Against all expectations and I would do it all again in a heart beat, just to be with you", said Tinashe with a smile, "I would win your love all over again".
"Darling there is nothing I would not do for you. No mountain I would not climb, no ocean I would not swim to be with you my love". There is nowhere on this blessed earth I would not reach just to be with you", said Tinashe.
"And if we should ever be apart, my heart will always search for yours", Tinashe continued.
"I want to each waking moment in your presence. Even in my dreams I want to be only with you", replied Tariro.
"And the prettiest sight I long to see, the most beautiful expanse, is the one in your eyes which holds the picture of me reflected in the luminous pools of your eyes", returned Tinashe.
"In your eyes I see only a reflection of love", said Tariro.
"A love so broad it is all embracing as the universe. It will take you as your are with your strong points as well your weaknesses" proceeded Tariro.
"I can imagine said Tinashe, a feeling so deep, when you dive in, swim as you may you will not the reach bottom of this thing we have found there is limit".
"A beginning without an end I dare say", smiled Tariro.
"It is amazing how we seem to finish each other's statements", remarked Tinashe bemusedly.
"I know, you only have to start saying something and I finish off the sentence. We are one like that", commented Tariro.
"Promise me one thing?", said Tariro.
"What's that?", asked", Tinashe pleasantly.
"That we shall never be apart", replied Tariro.
"What could possibly go wrong?" remarked Tinashe pleasantly.
"I m feeling sleepy", said Tariro cupping a hand over her mouth as she yawned.
Tinashe fell asleep the moment the revelling in sweet nothings ended. In a dream he was sitting on a plain covered with lush green grass. To Tinashe's surprise the spirit was standing beside him with his hands held up over his sides, like a cross.
"Why are you lifting up your arms like that?", asked a surprised Tinashe.
"I am holding us up, Tinashe, you, me, this entire island we are on. If I should put my arms down we will fall out of the sky.
Stand up and see for yourself".
Tinashe got up from the ground and look over the boundaries of the plain in disbelief, he could see the surface of the earth seemingly rushing past beneath them. They were flying over the face of the earth at break neck speed.
"What is going on spirit?" asked Tinashe.
"Tinashe, what have you done, why did you ask the question?"
"What question spirit?",
"When you said what else can go wrong you began a cataclysm of events, the duality of reality", replied the spirit.
"What?", returned Tinashe not understanding.
"Do you not you know that the worlds, the universe all of creation, were fashioned
with words?", asked the spirit. Words are the power to create reality.
"You have challenged fate with the question you ignorantly asked and must now set things right".
"Spirit, am I dreaming?", asked Tinashe.
"Yes Tinashe", calmly replied the spirit.
"What does it mean?", asked Tinashe.
"You will find out.., the spirit suddenly pushed Tinashe off the flying island. As To Tinashe fell to the earth, the spirit's calm voice reached out to him ,"... when understanding comes to you. You shall know".
Tinashe woke up in bed with a start. He reached out to Tariro's side of the bed but she was not there.
Then it came to him. It had all just been in his head. He had been imagining what life would be like with Tariro. Every night a romantic interlude of sweet nothings.
It made him look forward to marrying her even more.
Only yesterday he had saved her from a life sentence for a crime she did not commit. He was now faced with the task of convincing her that he had not been involved in accusing her of his father's murder.
The poor girl was still traumatised by her wrongful imprisonment and could not understand why she had been arrested.
He had to win over her trust and above all her love.
Today he was going to be attending the reading of his father's will that would set the tone for a new age of posterity for the Marova family and the clan as a whole. He felt confident it was his name that would be read out by his late father's lawyer as the heir apparent to lead the family business with his infusion of fresh ideas into a new era of unprecedented growth and prosperity.
On this morning as he dressed to attend the reading of the will, he was feeling quite buoyant. After all, he thought to himself, "what could go wrong?"
