The journey back to the school was one of the quietest Veron had ever embarked on with Karina. And he hated it.

She was never quiet when traveling with him. If she wasn't scolding him, she was lecturing him, or telling him something about school. No matter what, she would have something to say.

He wished she would say something now. Anything. Her silence since they left the valley made him uncomfortable. She even avoided his touch. He understood, but that didn't make it feel any better.

After shifting completely, he had stood still, observing her as she remained frozen on the spot. A few seconds passed and her eyes finally moved back to the ground as if she didn't believe what just happened before her eyes.

When she looked back at him, her brows knitted together and her lips parted.

"What... are you?" Her voice came out as a near whisper, and that was when he moved.
