Tanya's superpower was very simple and was within the nature category of powers that were a part of the novel.
Brick had already expected it and he knew that it would awaken on its own some time in the future without any external factors boosting it but he did not expect it to appear so soon.
The potential that was within her and the efforts she made from the beginning of the apocalypse did help to bring out her powers faster than others and she could have achieved it without the help of Brick but it may not have awakened for another couple of days or weeks.
The small amounts of crystal nucleus mixed in with the water that she drank helped to speed up her awakening and helped her to unearth her dormant fire powers.
Her ability was closer to the power that was Pyrokinesis or fire manipulation that let her create, control and manipulate fire.
Her body did not absorb the fire created but she would be a little more resistant to flames than others so it was less likely that she would be burned by the fire she created.
The flames could be controlled and manipulated into many kinds of different shapes but the novel's powers usually followed how the user developed them.
There could be many routes available for many people to train their powers in different ways and get different results.
Some would be able to use them defensively while others would use them offensively but the form and power displayed by each person depended on how well they had trained it.
An offensive fire manipulator would often go for the offensive route and would develop their abilities to burn many targets at once or would create fireballs that could be used on single targets.
Brick had some ideas on how to guide Tanya but he left those things for later since she could only create a small flame and that would only he able to be manipulated within a certain range of her body due to her power level being at the initial awakening stages.
She had yet to get familiar with her ability and her energy levels were lower so it could only be used in certain situations outside and where she was safe enough to test things out.
Brick made a quick comment towards Tanya. "For now you should find some time to practice summoning and dispersing your fire power so you do not summon it accidentally."
Even if an ability was quite stable for the awakened power users, they still needed to understand their power enough to be able to use it when they needed to do so and not accidentally use it when they did not mean to.
If they unable to do so then a simple action of waving their hand forward could cause their powers to be directed towards that direction and that action could cause more harm than good for those around them.
Even the smallest of powers that were used carelessly or accidentally could harm humans or cause some damage to the surroundings.
In worst cases, a simple power use may even let the zombies gain the advantage in certain situations and environments.
Tanya unlocked the door then nodded towards Brick who placed his hand on the door handle then opened it.
Without waiting for her to draw an arrow and place it on the bow, Brick pushed it open and walked inside.
Each footstep of his was cautious and slow, his breathing was calm and his body was relaxed but still alert.
"Urrghh."
Once a zombie had been a certain distance in front of him, Brick lifted his foot and sent it flying back with a single kick as it crashed down onto the floor.
A cold look was on his face as he walked forward into the room then lowered the knife into the eye socket of the fallen zombie.
The zombie lay there motionless as the knife was pushed deeper then was removed, Brick looked around the room a little then went searching around the other possible hiding places.
Once he was done, he moodily stepped out and came face to face with Tanya. "It has been dealt with. You can get someone to secure the things inside. Where is the next one?"
Tanya looked towards him and noticed his strangeness. "Um.. are you okay? Did I do something wrong?"
Brick sighed as he passed by her. "It is nothing… I just realised that I need to work harder."
It was difficult to be around talents that grasped things more naturally than others and Brick had been feeling the results of being around such a talent.
It was obvious that Tanya had a lot of potential and she had already shown it but he had yet to unlock his own power and had not been able to show his own worth.
He did not wish to suppress her potential by being jealous and doing so by delaying giving her the bottles of water or not providing her with effective advice to train her powers but at the same time, Brick wished for a short amount of time that he should have waited a little so that he could awaken first.
Having her powerful made it easier to protect her and to use tactically in different situations but if she grew too strong, too quickly then Tanya may not need to keep him around her anymore and could go off on her own.
In order to drown out the bad thoughts, he started to roam from room to room as he hacked and stabbed the zombies. 'This is much better..'
It had initially been intended to be a group effort to secure the rooms but Brick walked in and handled one to three zombies that were inside the room.
Once he had finished venting on them and the remaining rooms had been cleared, Brick walked towards the door that lead to the stairs and put back on his overalls. "I will be back. You guys keep the door closed until I return. Do not open to anyone else."
Tanya looked towards him seriously as if studying him. "Whatever is up with you… I hope you get over it."
Brick waved as he headed down the stairs. "I will try."
He reached the floor below and slowly opened the door to floor F where some doors had been left open in some rooms which had signs of people opening them before being attacked by zombies or attempting to move to another place.
The zombies roamed around the hallway and within the rooms, one zombie that was lingering by the door to the stairs turned towards the sound but did not sense anything attractive to it so it was about to turn back around to face the other way.
The door closed behind Brick who slowly walked up close to the zombie, grabbed the back of its clothing while he inserted the knife into the back of its head.
None of the others noticed any strange movements as the body was slowly lowered to the ground after being killed and Brick slowly rose up before wandering into one of the rooms.
The door was closed behind him and then he was faced with two zombies.
They approached him but became uninterested until the moment that one of them was pushed against the wall with its front facing another.
One was pinned in between a zombie that was stabbed in the back of the head and it tried to reach towards Brick.
Once the knife was removed from the back of the skull, it entered the eye socket of the one that was trapped.
They both fell to the ground and Brick stepped away to look over the room. "Hmm.. less luxurious than upstairs but something like this should have some good stuff. What about windows? A balcony? Any of the two could be a little helpful."
