ตอน 37: Treated By a Night Creature

Click-clacking down the not-so-bleachy tile with ragged breathing, her footsteps echoed sharply around the arable square, sounding overly loud in her ears, like the booming heartbeat of a condemned prisoner.

As the clattering noise of her footsteps came to a halt, she tried to catch her breath but then again rushed on her foot. At the sight of a doctor nearby Diego's room, Gloria rushed toward the doctor, not noticing a nurse walking in her direction. With the rush that she had, she clashed right with the nurse. The syringe tray in the nurse's hand flew in the air, splattering the syringes here and there.

"What the hell? Are you blind? Watch where you're going!" Yelled the Nurse.

"I'm really sorry. Apologize me, but I'm in a hurry." She bowed before she tried to dash toward the doctor.

"You... Woman! How dare you?!" Gritting her teeth, the nurse pulled her by the wrist harshly. "Do you think all these would do with just a sorry?" She questioned.

A look of pain gleamed on Gloria's face. Her eyes filled with tears as the words hit her as if she was being hit by the same thing again and again.

'What can an apology do?'

Little sobs left her lips, but she shut her mouth, trying not to cry.

"What are you crying for? I'm the one who has to cry bringing all of these from that ice-cold room," she spat, sending daggers at Gloria who was trying to blink away her tears as she stepped back. "Stop crying and pick those that you-"

"That's enough!"

"Who are y- Doctor Chris!" The furious look of her eyes turned wide eye, and she soon bowed her head as if she had not treated anyone so lowly. "This-" She tried to disguise her look.

"Get back to your work," he said, not caring to look at the nurse, and pulled Gloria away from the nurse who was digging her nails into her wrist, bruising it with blood. He glanced at the mess and soon shifted his gaze back to the nurse who hasn't budged an inch.

The nurse almost cried at the look of his cold glares.

"Is this the way you treat the people of the patients?"

"No. I-"

"To the Dean's office!" He uttered every word very sharply and clearly without raising his voice.

"But-" The nurse tried to explain.

"Now!" He said it louder enough for the passerby to hear.

The nurse picked up the tray and the syringes and dashed away, not being able to bear the look her favorite senior and the people were giving her.

"You damn, bit*h. I'll make sure you pay for it if I were to ever see you again," she swore under her breath.

Christon glanced down at the one who didn't fail to amuse him broken in front of him.

"We better get treated before it infects."

Gloria for the first time paid attention to her surrounding coming out of her guilt-tripping internal voices echoing in her head. She glanced up at Christon with confusion only to feel a sharp pain on her wrist. The sight of three nail marks had her widened her eyes. Christon ran his thumb over the bruise to bring back her attention. A light hiss left her lips. She tried to pull her hands to herself, but the firm grip around her wrist had her fail to do so.

"Let go of my hand. I need to see Diego." She tried to pull back her hand again only to hiss at the sting on her wound.

"Not before I get you treated."

"Why do you care? Let go of my hand." She tried to push him away by his chest, but guess what? The man stood like a pillar. She whined, gritting her teeth.

Christon glanced down at her before he leaned dangerously close to her. "A doctor, of course. But I remember not having my breakfast today. Who knows how many of them are thriving to have a taste of it?" He said as he looked at her in the eye. Gloria turned mute and stiff at his words. "You wouldn't want his mother to see you, do you?" He said, shifting the topic as he let go of her.

It was true that he didn't get to have his breakfast. With all those things running through his head, he didn't feel like eating at all. He walked past the room of Diego, clenching his fist as he took long strides.

Even though Gloria didn't consider the wound to be a serious threat, she thought it was wise to get treated. Who knows how many more night creatures were roaming in here in disguise? Even the thought of that gave her the chills. She had to speed up her foot, more like running after the man, because of the lengthy pace and quickness with which he was moving.

Christon's lips quirked, seeing her struggling to keep up her pace with him from the corner of his eyes. Not so visibly, he slowed down his pace.

"How far is it that you're taking me?" She questioned grumpily as she wandered her gaze at her surrounding. "Ouch!" Winced Gloria, as she collided with the man's back. "You..." She opened her mouth to yell at him, but he gestured for her to close her mouth.

"Get in before the flies enter your mouth," he teased causing her to fume and glare at him.

'In?' She frowned as she tilted her head and saw ahead of them. Her mouth circled at the sight of an opened door, presuming it to be the place where she was about to get 'treated.

"Why is it so dark?" She questioned as she walked into the dark room. There was a 'click' sound snapping her from observing the room. 'Did he just lock me in this room, or is it a trap of his to-' Her eyes widened with a gasp as she stepped back with cautious footsteps.

"H-Hey, you crazy night creature! Did you just-"

She knocked onto something hard from behind and felt a hand creep around her waist. Gloria jerked at the sudden contact. Her whole body trembled at the awareness of his presence. "You call for me?" The low and raspy voice adding the sexy accent of his had her breath hitch. She gulped softly, but her throat went dry at his warm breath blow on her nape.

'There's no excuse today. I'm going play a dead sack from this instant!' She screamed internally, trying not to tremble like a withering leaf. She once heard a man say that the more you fear, the more the night creatures have the urge to hunt you. But there was no way she was going to be able to stop herself from trembling.

At the sound of her heart thudding so hard, Christon closed his eyes, "What a rhythm of that little thing," he remarked. "It's a waste that I'm not gonna have a taste of you, today."

She heard him say, clicking his tongue, and as if on cue, the lights turned on. She frowned and turned around, sensing the absence of his hands on her waist, but the man was nowhere. Instead, she was standing in front of a large black table.

"What ya lookN' at? Come sit over here."

Gloria turned to her left and saw him standing in front of a white sick bed. He was busy going through the kits in the box on the side table. Gloria padded her feet toward the bed and sat on it, fiddling her fingers. Her feet dangled in the air at the height of the bed.

Christon pulled out the tall stool in front of the bed and sat on it before he stretched his hand forward for her to place her injured wrist. He pinched a piece of cotton ball and dabbed in povidone-iodine, a brown liquid used as a topical antiseptic that provides infection protection. Gloria hissed when the cotton came in contact with her wound.

"It's gonna sting for a while," he informed her as he gently dabbed the antiseptic, blowing her wound. Gloria could not help but feel conscious of their proximity. But the sting had her divert her mind.

"That bit*h," she cursed the nurse under her breath, feeling the sting. If it weren't for her so concerned about Diego and the guilt taking over her, she would have nearly killed that lady.

Christon looked up at Gloria for a brief moment before he continued to add another antiseptic.

"Don't you feel hungry when you see blood?" She questioned as she saw him treat his wound so handily.

"If I did, the hospital would be no longer in peace but run out of deathbed."

Gloria's eyes turned sources. Silence filled the air.

"You seemed so guilty about the state of your lover-boy. Did you perhaps attempt to kill him and that's how it resulted in him here?" He questioned as he focused his eyes on her wound. But his ears were all on her.

Gloria shifted her gaze from her wrist to his eyes which were covered by a few strands of his golden blonde hair at his question. A glint of pain crossed through her.

'You test me so hard, Mi'lord. Just give me the strength to endure it,' she prayed before she let out a long sigh.

"Yes, I am to be guilt, but..." Her eyes looked past the table blankly as she recounted the incident to man tending the wound.

Hey lovely readers,

Today I was diagnosed with a nerve issue on both of my hands. I'd be going through a surgery in a month or two. Till then, the doctor has adviced me not to strain my hand a lot. But no worries, I'll be trying my best to make it to upload the chapters. I hope you'll not drop the book back because of the slow chapter updates.

Thank you!

Your loving author,
