บท 51: Exposing the magic system
After signing out at the campus gate, I took a taxi to Miss Camille's home.
About fifteen minutes later, I paid the taxi fee and approached Miss Camille's address.
After taking a deep breath, I pressed the doorbell outside the gate.
A few rings later, an unfamiliar female voice resounded, "This is the Light Family's household. Who am I speaking to?"
"I am one of Miss Camille's students. I want to speak to her." I spoke through the microphone near the doorbell.
"Student?"
The female voice repeated, sounding a little annoyed.
"I will open the gates. Wait a moment."
A few seconds later, the gates opened.
After entering the property, I walked to the mansion in the distance.
Before he could even reach the door, someone opened it and walked out.
This person was an elegant young lady wearing a maid outfit. She had short black hair and a pair of round, blue eyes that glistened like a jewel.
"I am Lady Camille's maid, Sophie. What business do you have with my lady?"
"Who are you trying to fool here? You are Miss Camille's cousin, Sophie Light."
"How do you know me? Did Lady Camille tell you?"
"You can say so."
"I have something important to tell her." I said.
"Unfortunately, I don't think Miss Camille will be able to hear what you have to say today."
"What's the reason?" I asked although I already knew the reason.
Sophie remained silent for a moment before speaking, "I think it would be better for you to see for yourself. Follow me."
Shortly after entering the mansion, I could hear some muffled noises coming from the second floor.
As I got closer, I could hear someone shouting at a low volume, "How dare they betray me!"
"…"
Sometime later, Sophie stopped in front of a door and turned to look at me.
"Miss Camille is behind these doors. However, don't open the door until I tell you to do so."
After saying these words, she proceeded to take a few steps away from the door.
"You may open the door now, but you should watch your head."
After taking a deep breath, I slowly opened the doors.
Whoosh!
Before he could even see the inside of the room, something flew straight towards my face which I caught using telekenisis.
The object thrown was a bottle of wine.
I quickly opened the door to see the situation inside, and although I already knew about it, the condition of the room was still a absolute shock to me, it was a complete mess inside.
Most of the furniture were turned, and there were glass bottles all over the floor and table. The place looked like it had been ransacked by robbers.
However, the most shocking of all was the person inside.
Miss Camille, who always appeared dignified and noble, was in an absolute mess.
"This is just too much..." I said.
"What do you know about Lady Camille? She usually keeps her emotions bottled up, but because of that, when she gets too emotional, all of her suppressed emotions will burst out like a volcano. Also, she's not very good with alcohol, which makes things worse." Sophie explained.
And she continued, "Thanks to you, I will have a lot of cleaning up to do later."
"How long will she remain like that?"
"She's usually done within an hour. She may get drunk easily, but she also recovers quickly."
"I see…"
"I still have some work to do, so I will leave you alone. You'll know she has calmed down when it becomes silent for a whole minute."
I decided to wait.
After half an hour, I pressed my ears against the door to make sure it was absolutely silent. When I couldn't hear anything for a whole minute, I resolved himself and opened the door slightly to peek inside.
"Sorry, I made a mess. I'll help you clean up." Miss Camille's voice resounded, mistaking me as Sophie.
I didn't say anything and peeked my head through the door to look inside the room.
I could see Miss Camille lying on the couch with her eyes closed.
"Say something, Sophie." Miss Camille opened her eyes and turned to look at the door when nobody responded to her.
Her eyes widened with shock and disbelief when she saw my face.
However, she didn't immediately recognize me.
After taking a moment to recognize me, she jumped up and shouted with a flushed face, "O-Oswald?! What are you doing here?!"
"Hey… I wanted to speak with you, so I came here…" I said in an awkward voice.
"You couldn't wait until tomorrow to tell me?! How do you even know where I live?!"
"I saw your address when you helped me register at the Adventurers' Guild."
Miss Camille turned silent for a moment before speaking in a low voice, "Oswald… How long have you been here?"
"Uhh… maybe from last half an hour…" I said
"S-Sophie! Why did you let him inside?! What if he was a spy?! Or an assassin?!"
Sophie glanced at me and scoffed, "He looks too weak to be either of those. And if he tried anything funny, I would've killed him on the spot."
I chuckled internally after hearing her words.
'If I do want to, not only you but everyone here would be turned to puddle of blood, including those guards who have been keeping an eye on me since the starting!' I laughed inwardly.
Miss Camille took a deep breath and released it in a long sigh.
She narrowed her gaze at me and spoke a moment later, "If you dare tell anyone about what you saw today, I am going to kill you."
"we'll see about that." I sighed
"As if I can believe your words anymore."
I sighed before speaking, "I wanted to tell you all about my and Leo's origin but it seems that you don't even trust me. Then let's leave this matter."
"W- Wait!!"
Sophie interrupted, "Lady Camille, I would like to clean this mess up before dinner, but I won't be able to do that with you here."
"Then I will help you clean—"
"This isn't the first time you've had an outburst. You'll only get in my way like the last time. I can deal with this myself."
"Let me hell you with it." I said before activating telekenisis and cleaning it in a instant.
After that, Miss Camille and I left the room for Sophie to arrange the room.
"So, what were you going to tell me?" Miss Camille spoke as soon as we entered the next room.
I nodded with a serious expression.
I took a deep breath and said, "This is going to sound crazy, but I want you to believe me when I say that…"
I proceeded to tell her about the Magic System and the quests that it gives me. I also told that Leo has a same system. I even told her that both of us came from another world. The only difference in our situations is that he came to this world with his body while I took over this body. I told her almost everything except for omnipotent system and anime world.
Miss Camille was speechless by the end of it. She wanted to yell at me for making such an outrageous excuse just to help Nina, but when she thought about our existence, she couldn't say with confidence that I was lying either.
This kind of plot, where any protagonist exposes the existence of system to someone he cares about. According to me, it is such a stupid act. Exposing your secrets can only lead to a harsh betrayal.
Then you might ask, why did I do this?
Everything that happend a few minutes ago, is what Miss Camille remembers.
What Miss Camille doesn't remembers is that the moment we entered this room, I used my new skill on her, The seal of permanent domination, and ordered her to forget about the seal.
All she remembers is that we came into this room and I exposed all my secrets to her. The end.
