Chapter 19: Across the Line

Andrew Fray POV:

SEVEN WEEKS AFTER HOLLY LEFT

I lay in bed, staring at my alarm clock, watching the numbers count down minute by minute. When it finally sounded, my finger was already resting on the ‘off’ button.

The first thing I did after crawling out of bed was check my phone, knowing that there wouldn’t be anything there.

It had been seven weeks since Holly had left for Boston, and three weeks since the official start of her assignment. Those first four weeks had been easy enough; we had called and texted regularly like we had promised. But these last three weeks had been like a wide-awake nightmare.

Knowing where Holly was and what she was doing, but not being able to know how she was is what bothered me the most. Still, I was doing my best to accept that. I tried to convince myself that this was a ‘no news is good news’ scenario. If there was nothing wrong, there was nothing anyone would need to tell me.
