He moves toward me as if to touch me, probably in comfort, but I pull away automatically, and he gives me a hurt look but forges on. "Maybe that's why he couldn't tell you.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, have you considered that he may have been afraid to tell you? He should have told you, yes. Maybe he was afraid to tell you because he knows how you feel about that side of him and didn't want you to see him as anything other than the Kitai you've always known."
I consider his words and could feel an element of truth in them. For the first time, I try to put myself into Kitai's shoes, and I have to admit it would be hard for him to disclose that the beast I hated so much was just another side of him.
"Please, talk to Kitai. Not just for him but for you too. I know you miss him."
I nodded. "Yeah, I'll talk to him."
