"Who took my book?" May yelled as she angrily climbed down the stairs, heading to where her family to the sky, dreading what May would do if she found out the truth.
"Oh May, it's you girls birthday today but you still want to yell? You should be happy today. I even sang happy birthday this morning and baked a cake for you guys," Rachel scolded.
May slightly raised her long black Halloween gown and walked to where they were standing.
"Really, mother?" She asked in sarcasm. Do you think just singing happy birthday and baking cake means anything to me? Oh, I admit I was happy but now it's wiped off. I can't find one of my books," she complained.
"Look, May, we won't wait for you if you think your book is more important than the Halloween party at the palace. You can just stay at home and look for your silly book," Jaria snapped at her and continued eating her cake.
"You should stay out of this if you're not the one who took my book. Now I'm starting to think you're the one who stole it. I know you were always jealous of me having more books on my shelf than yours."
"Seriously? Are you really saying this? You and I know that I'm not interested in reading those useless books on your bookshelf so keep shut. I'm sure you have nothing to rant about and that's why you came up with this," Jaria rebuked, finally dropping her plate of cake on the table to face May.
"Oh wow. I now know you're such a big fat liar. You don't read my kind of book," May said, mimicking Jaria's voice. "How about those romance and erotica books on your bookshelves? Stop pretending just because mum is here. I know the truth," she revealed and she saw their mother's mouth fall open in shock.
"Don't pretend too. Your romance and erotica books are more than mine. They are all over your room so stop acting like a saint as if you read knowledgeable books.
"R...romance? Oh my. These girls. You girls read romance books? I can't believe this. And erotica too?" Rachel asked in shock. Her eyes widened as she tried to register all they just confessed in her head. These little girls.
"Mum, we're not kids. Are you not the one urging us to get married? We have to know these things if we want to get married soon. It's just romance and erotica books," May said.
"Just? When I was your age, I didn't even know what romance was. Gosh."
"Well, I don't care. We're not old-fashioned. This is not why I'm saying all this. I can't find my book and I want to know who stole it."
"Tsk. Drop that dead topic about your book already," Jaria spat.
"You said what? I'm going to scratch your damn face," May roared as she lunged towards Jaria but Raziel quickly got in the middle of them.
"Wait, wait, May. Stop it. You guys can't fight. What if you injure your pretty face and people get to see it at the party? Maybe you should check properly for your book. I'll help you too," Raziel who has been standing muted on her spot hurriedly said. She was feeling so guilty as the fight between her both sisters on their birthday was her fault.
She still doesn't want to tell May the truth about the book. Imagine May lunging at Jaria like that without even confirming that she was the one who took the book. What will she do to her when she finds out?
May angrily stared at Raziel who was blocking her way and easily pushed her.
Raziel mistakenly stepped on the hem of her long purple gown and she fell on the floor with a thud like a bag of potatoes, causing her well arranged tiara to fall off her head. She winced in pain and managed to get up from the floor and arranged her dress.
"May, Jaria, stop it or I'll hit both of you right now. You can't fight like this. At least not today. It's you girls birthday for heaven's sake," Rachel screamed at both sisters who were staring at each other like wolves who would attack each other at any moment.
"Oh my goodness! If you three continue being like this, I think I'm going to die before I clock 50 years. I'll die of high blood pressure."
"Don't say that, mother. You're not going to die," Raziel consoled.
"You shut up too. Your sisters are quarreling and you're just standing. May gave you a little push and you fell. Will you ever stop being weak?" Her mother hollered and Raziel pursed her lips and fluttered her eyelids at the mention of her being weak.
Her sadness disappeared when she noticed that her mother had not said anything about the book. She saw her reading a book that day, so why hasn't her mind crossed there? Maybe she forgot. Raziel hoped she wouldn't remember.
"Rani, Rani," Rachel called and Rani ran down the stairs holding the side of her blue gown.
"Oh my God, Rani. You look so beautiful. Muah," Raziel complimented.
"Wait! Rani is coming with us?" May asked and Raziel smiled.
"Yes, she is. Mum already agreed so don't oppose it."
"Enough! Now, you four get out of the house and go into the cars. We'll be taking two cars. Your dad already left so the drivers will take us to the palace. We'll be spending the whole evening there. Be of your best character and make sure not to fight, else..., Now move," Rachel ordered and they quickly obeyed her order and went into the cars. Raziel, Rani, and Jaria took the first car while May and their mother took the other.
