Mauve heard Jael's voice as clear as day in her ears. She was glad Mill was out of earshot because she would rather be buried than have her hear this.

"Jael," she called, pressing her face against his shirt.

Her face was burning but it wasn't the only thing reacting to his words. She didn't like the fact that he had this much effect on her.

She knew if he was insistent, she would agree to cancel eating at the dining hall without much cajoling. They haven't spent enough time together.

She looked up at his face to see him looking down at her, his blue eyes bright and his gaze hypnotic.

He grabbed her chin and bent his head just as she stood on her toes. She was still barefoot

He kissed her softly, his lips gently sucking on her upper lips. His gentleness was more arousing than it should be.
