The two aggressively pat each other on the back as I look for somewhere to sit. When I don't find one, I move closer to one of the larger bamboo trees and lean against it. Enjoying the shade and support it gave.
"My son, how did you find us? After we were tricked, it was too late. We realized that he had fallen into his snake-like trap. Once we were in the Array, we couldn't find our way back out." Li Ji steps back and tries to hide the emotions in his red eyes as he suddenly remembers.
He quickly looks around but then stops when his eyes land on me. He lifts his hand and says, "It's all thanks to Lyra. She not only saved you all, but she also saved little Mei." His father looks over with surprise and gratitude.
I lightly nod my head but stay where I'm at. My legs were quite shaky. His father then surprises everyone as he steps over and gives a small bow before saying "I don't know what trouble little Mei has caused, but you have done our family a great service. Thank you."
I force my tired body upright and awkwardly bow back as I clear my voice and softly say, "It's really nothing. Little Mei is a sweet friend, and you are her family. I'm glad I was able to help Master Li out." He gives me a large smile before saying "Whenever you need help, the Li family will be there for you. No matter what."
Li Jie nods his head and places his hand on his father's broad shoulder as he smiles at me. Suddenly, Master Li frowns and quickly turns to Li Jie. Before he can say anything, Li Jie says "Don't worry, Master Fang has been killed. I have already sent the palace and letter explaining what has happened here. The Fang family has met its end."
Master Li looks somewhat relieved, but he still seems angry as he says, "I wish I could have killed that bastard myself! He deserved a slow and painful death for the things he's done! He's truly a monster!" Everyone in the yard grows awkwardly quiet as I go back to leaning against the tree. I agree.
Everyone aside from Master Li's men was now looking over at the beautiful woman who looked like she had just stepped out of a painting. The slight breeze causes her long dark hair to slightly sway as the bottom of her dress flutters. Her dark eyelashes hide her strange but beautiful grey eyes.
She looks like a goddess from the forest or a beautiful fairy! They looked truly conflicted as everyone then turned toward Li Jie. How could he explain what she had done? If they hadn't seen what she had done themselves, they would have had a hard time explaining it! Even now, it's hard to wrap their heads around what just took place.
It's just too hard to believe!
Li Jie glances over at me before nervously clearing his throat and saying, "Don't worry father, he had a... very befitting death." His father frowns at him, clearly noticing something was off but Li Jie quickly cuts him off and says, "We should hurry home, Mom and Little Mei are both worried sick."
His father wants to argue but he swallows his words at the mention of his wife and daughter. Everyone gathered and left, heading back to the Inn for the night. It had been a long day.
Two days later and everyone was arriving at the Li residence with various states of fatigue. Master Li held his wife close as Little Mei hugged them both from the side. Truly, a hugging family. As soon as Li Mei pulled away, her eyes began searching the entire group until they landed on me.
I brace myself as she comes running. Just as I had expected, she hits me at full speed. She wraps her arms around me and says "Thank you, thank you, thank you. I knew you could do it." I allow her to squeeze me for a bit before leaning back and trying to pry her off.
She reluctantly releases me but quickly grabs my hands as she says, "Something told me that you were the only one who could bring them both back safely." I open my mouth to argue when Li Jie suddenly speaks up behind me saying, "You're right little Mei. We may have lost father if it hadn't been for Lyra."
Mei Mei sticks her small tongue out at Li Jie before saying, "There's no telling what would have happened to you either. Lyra is a beautiful Deity and without her, we would have all been doomed." My face twitches as I open my mouth to argue but Li Jie cuts me off again.
"Stop saying such a thing, don't you know what kind of rumors will start if others hear you??" He lowers his voice, leaning in to fuss at her but not wanting others to hear. Mei Mei puffs out her cheeks but bites her tongue. She didn't want to cause Lyra problems, she had indeed misspoken.
I clear my throat and say, "I'm not a Deity, I'm a witch." Suddenly, it grows quiet. Everyone was now looking at us, but Mei Mei didn't seem to notice as she asks, "What's a witch?" Their eyes turn to me, and the question in them was clear. They all wanted to know the same thing. What was a witch, what was I?
I lightly scratch the side of my neck as I try to think of how to explain to them what a witch was. But to be honest, how do you explain magic with just a few words? After a few moments, Li Mei's mother says "Stop holding Lyra up. She's probably exhausted and wanting a bath."
My eyes light up as I look at her with gratitude and a smile. I nod my head and say, "I would greatly appreciate a warm bath and a comfy bed." Li Mei and Li Jie both blink in surprise before feeling guilty, they should have taken care of her first before holding her up and asking her questions. She's probably exhausted from the whole ordeal.
Li Mie's mother reaches out and says, "Come child, let's get you taken care of." I smile and walk over to her, ignoring everyone and everything. I wanted a warm bath so badly, I no longer cared about anything else.
After the servants were done filling the wooden tub with warm water, I dismiss them all and undress. I slip into the warm bath water with a sigh, enjoying the way my muscles begin to relax. Suddenly, a dark voice says, "Do you enjoy baths that much? I have several hot springs that I can give you."
My entire body freezes as I look over to find the handsome but crazy man standing in the corner, watching me with a small smile and dark eyes. How the actual....
