บท 26: First Mime

"It's amazing!" Shouted Alya.

"Congratulations, dear," said Sabine Dupain-Cheng. "I'll call Marinette down for you two, okay? Marinette, your friends are here!"

"Don't worry Miss Dupain-Cheng," I said. "Alya and I will just go up the meet her."

Once we had her approval, I followed Alya as she rushed up the stairs.

Alya quickly swung open the hatch to Marinette's room. "Girl, you will not believe what just happened to me!"

"Hey, Alya? Mind if you let me up too?" I asked, not really happy about getting a front row seat to view Alya's butt.

"Oh, sorry, Yin! I'm just to happy!" Said Alya.

"Want to tell me what happened on the roof?" Marinette asked innocently. I raised an amused eyebrow at her, making her wink at me.

"Okay! So, Ladybug had just saved a bunch of workers from a supervillain," explained Alya as we climbed onto Marinette's balcony. "There were like a gazillion reporters waiting to interview her and.." She pulled out her phone. "That's when it happened!"

She showed Marinette a video of Ladybug recognizing her.

"Oh, um. That was super..." Marinette was unsure what to say.

"Cool, right? Ladybug knows me, my blog! She thinks it's awesome! Awesome! Awesome~!" Sag Alya.

I started laughing.

"What are you laughing at, Yin?" Asked Alya.

"Well, I might be wrong, but I think that pigeon was mimicking you!" I said pointing to a pigeon on Marinette's balcony railing.

"Oh, I kinda feel a little silly now, but that doesn't change the fact that Ladybug knows me~!"

"Calm down there, super star. You might get scouted to join a singing competition!" I joked.

"Haha, very funny. Oh, wait here girls. Let me go grab my laptop!" And with that, she disappeared under the hatch.

"So, Ladybug knows our best friend," I smirked at Marinette. "Exciting, isn't it?"

"Very," Marinette grinned back. She opened her jacket so that Tikki could fly out.

"Could I see the video?" She asked.

"Oh, sure, Tikki!" Said Marinette.

"Um, maybe I should take that. You know how clumsy your are, Marinette," I suggested.

"Oh, it's alright! I can manage."

"Sure..."

She turned to Tikki to show her the video, but the phone slipped from her hands and she almost dropped it.

"Ha, you thought I was going to drop it, didn't you?" She asked me smugly.

"I wouldn't be so smug if I were you." I pointed to Alya's phone screen.

To her horror, Marinette realized that she had accidentally deleted the video.

"I didn't just do that! Tell me I didn't just do that!" She said, shaking my shoulders.

"Um, you didn't just to that?" I said.

She made a sound that made me think of a dying monkey, not that I've seen or heard a dying monkey before.

"Hey, look on the bright side! At least you didn't drop it!"

Marinette groaned.

"Also, Alya has a copy of the video on her laptop."

"Wait, what?" Asked Marinette, not wanting to get her hopes up.

"A small detail I forgot to mention."

"Thank god! Why didn't you tell me?" She demanded.

"Careful, you don't want to actually drop Alya's phone," I said, trying to distract her.

"Your lucky I'm too relieved to get mad," she grumled.

"What are you girls talking about?" Asked Alya.

"Um, nothing!"

"Well come down, we've got some visitors!"

"What did you say the name of the play is, Mister Haprele?" I heard Miss Dupain-Cheng ask as I climbed down from Marinette's bed. Her room is like an entire obstacle course!

"Well-"

"It's called 'The Mime's Extraordinary Adventure'! Starring the most talented amazingly awesome actor and mime!" Said Mylene, interrupting her father.

"Oh come on now," said Mister Haprele, sounding a bit embarrassed.

"My father!" Finished Mylene. "Give it up for Fred Haprele!"

"Thanks you very much! Thank you Mylene," Mister Haprele said, slightly bowing.

"Well, congratulation! You must've made your daughter very proud!" Said Miss Dupain-Cheng. And I though the proudness was supposed to be the other way around.

"Now all I need is my hat to complete my costume."

Marinette went to her workspace and picked up a hat. "Here it is!"

"Thank you, Marinette for saving me at the last minute!"

He then pretended to open an invisible box that held the hat and placed the hat on his head. Marinette following his act, held her hand up on her side as if she wee holding up a box.

"Ha, I don't think Mylene was exaggerating at all!" Complimented Miss Dupain-Cheng.

"Oh, why thank you!" Said Mister Haprele, bowing once again.

"I fixed the tear in it," said Marinette, pretending to put the imaginary box down. "I also sewed a pocket on the inside of the hat, just like you asked."

"You've done a perfect job. Thanks to you, I'll have my good luck charm right next to me at all times." He placed a picture of Mylene into the pocket. "I've got to go now, can't be late for in costume rehearsals!"

"Wait, Mister Haprele! Could I come with you?" I asked.

"What do you mean?"

"I'll just follow you until your stop! I want to ask you some questions!"  I thought.

"Sure then!" He agreed.

"So, why did you start acting?"

********

"Really? I can't picture you being short!"

Mister Haprele nodded his head, "Yes, I was actually the shortest in my class. I had a sudden growth spurt in my teenage years."

I had prepared myself for an awkward walk, but Mister Haprele and I got along surprisingly well!

"Good for you! I hope I'll get one too! I want to be over at least 170 cm! Speaking of which, how tall are you, Mister Haprele?"

"It's been a while since I last checked, but I believe I'm above 250 cm."

"Wow, how many feet is that?"

"I don't know."

"Maybe I should check...Poppycock, I forgot my phone at Marinette's!"

"Oh, do you want to borrow mine?"

"Oh no need-" Wait this is the perfect opportunity to stop his akuma! "Um, actually yes. Please."

As I used the converter, I quickly muted the sound on Mister Haprele's phone. He won't be notified now.

"Apparently, your above eight feet tall, Mister Haprele!"

"Really? Oh, there's the tour bus. It was a pleasure talking o you, Yin. Thank you for accompanying me!"

"The pleasure is all mine!" I said, handing him his phone back.

"See you at the show!"

I waved goodbye to Mister Haprele until he was out of sight.

Another akuma stopped. Way to go, me!

********

"Hey, look. Adrien's here too!" Pointed out Alya.

"Okay, and?"

"Go sit next to him!"

"I can't." I haven't had the chance to talk things out yet, and I really don't want to deal with any awkward situations.

"Come on!" Alya pulled me into the seat next to Adrien and went to sit next to Marinette.

Poppycock. "Hey, Adrien!"

"Y-yin? W-wow, you're here too! But why wouldn't you be?" His face is red again.

"Y-yeah, I though your father was strict? How are you here?"

"You, don' want me to be here...?"

"What? No! Of course not! I was just curious! Sorry if I came off that way."

"Oh, it's okay. My father wanted me to make a public appearance, that's all."

"Okay."

"Yup."

Awkward.

Thankfully, the show had started not long after.

Hopefully I get an opportunity to resolve this issue with Chat. I can't bear awkwardness.
