บท 48: A Long-ranged Conversation

“What do you mean by demonic problem?” George asked on the other end of the communication device.

“It’s the demon concealing bracelet. It cracked during one of our trial activity.” Kelvin replied.

“How bad is the crack?” George asked, with a serious voice tone.

Kelvin was just about to reply, but stopped when he heard the incoming footsteps of Griff.

“I’m sorry Ken. Something came up, and I have to go attend to it.” Griff said, as he came back into the room.

“Are you through with the call?”

“No, I’m not.” Kelvin replied.

“Okay, I have to go now. Once you’ve finished speaking with your guardian, you can leave the communication device right there on the table. I’ll be back in a few hours.” Griff said, and left the room.

“Phew, that was close.” Kelvin said to himself.

“So, how bad is the crack?” George asked once more.

“It’s not that much; but the blood demon has started acting up.” Kelvin replied.

“How so?” George asked.

“I can’t really explain it. I don’t even know how it’s possible; but the blood demon took possession of my body while I was asleep. It even… killed someone.” Kelvin said.

George was silent, and after a while he said,

“The blood arch demon is gradually regaining its strength. It’s going to be really difficult to subdue it now.”

“Can’t you send over another demon concealing bracelet?” Kelvin asked.

“No, I can’t. And even if I could, the academy won’t allow it unless there is a valid reason for sending the item.” George replied.

“Ugh, this is really bad… what about the demon separation technique? Have you found any information concerning it?”

“No, the only lead I found is about a failed demon separation experiment which was done by a certain research scientist, way back in the early 90s.” George said.

“Kelvin, I’ll keep searching for more info about the demon separation technique. But perhaps it would be best if we start looking for an alternative solution.”

“I understand; but do you think there’s any alternative solution to this problem?” Kelvin asked.

“I’ll look into it. I’ll also find a way to get another demon concealing bracelet and send it over to you; but in the mean time, I’ll tell you a temporary solution to stop the blood demon from going on a rampage.” George replied.

“Now firstly, you’re going to need a special kind of salt, called black salt; I’m sure you can find it in the academy. This black salt contains particles of Arkiva, a strong dust like element which burns demons.”

“Okay, so what do I do when I get this black salt?” Kelvin asked.

“You said that the blood arch demon once took control over your body while you were asleep; so the best method of use is to encircle the black salt around your bed. With this, even though the blood demon takes control of your body, it won’t be able to leave the encircled black salt area.” George explained.

“I get it, but just like you said, that’s just a temporary solution. And it doesn’t exactly stop the demon from taking control. Honestly speaking, I’m like a freaking time bomb, just waiting to explode at any given moment.” Kelvin said.

“Kelvin, I understand how you feel, but remember, everyone has good and evil within them; it’s only a matter of which path you choose. Always remember that. I still have some work to do; please extend my greetings to Carl.”

“Okay, I’ll do that. Thanks George.” Kelvin said.

After that, the link between the two communication devices disconnected and the glow coming from the orb went off.

“Everyone has good and evil within; in my case, I have more evil than good. And it would only get worse if I don’t get rid of this demon.” Kelvin muttered to himself.

After the call, Kelvin left the dorm master’s room and decided to pay his friends a visit in the infirmary.

On his way to the infirmary, Kelvin bought the black salt, from an old local store. And just like the name implies, the black salt, had a pitch black color with a crystalline look.

On reaching the infirmary, Kelvin noticed that most of the first year students were now conscious, and fully healed. The few students that were still unconscious were currently receiving treatment from the divine healers.

‘Almost everyone is healed. I guess our classes and training activities would soon resume.’ Kelvin thought.

He looked for the infirmary rooms of Carl, Ray, and the rest of his friends; and after searching for a while without any result, Kelvin walked up to one of the medical staffs, and ask for their student infirmary room numbers.

“Excuse me; I’m looking for the infirmary room of my friends.” Kelvin said to a female medical staff.

“Okay, can you tell me their names?” The medical staff asked.

Kelvin went on and told her the names.

The female medical staff flipped through the papers on her clipboard, in search of the names mentioned; and after searching for a while, she said,

“Your friends will be getting discharged soon, so we moved them to a separate medical room.”

“Come on, I’ll take you there.”

The female medical staff took the lead, and directed Kelvin to the said medical room.

“Okay, this is the room.” The medical staff said, as she gestured towards the room door.

Kelvin thanked her, before entering the medical room.
