บท 20: The Drowned Dead
The journey and road to Vizema was thankfully uneventful, we rode on horseback for an entire day, when we arrived the city looked majestic and magnificent.
it was beautiful, we placed our horses in my sanctuary because it is cheaper than putting them in a stable, we crossed the bridge of vizima and entered the city wall after identifying ourselves to the guards at the city entrance.
Since it was night, we booked a room in an inn that was open 24/7 and slept till morning, when the rosters were crowing and the sun was shining we both woke up at almost the same time.
we got dressed and I cast a cleaning spell on both of us since I prefered to start the day clean, we went down to the dining hall and had our usual breakfast, after finishing we went outside and checked on the notice board for any quests that might interest us.
we found many different quests but the one that caught my and geralts eyes was one posted by the royal huntsmen of Vizema asking help from monster slayers.
needless to say we took it, after asking for a few directions from the locals we made it to a place close to the city walls that looked like a training barracks used by soldiers.
when we entered we asked them we thier captain would be and the all pointed us at a door, when we hot to the door I knocked on it and heard a muffled deep "come in".
when we entered I saw a 2 meter long jiant with a body of pure muscle, when he saw us he asked "what do you want" I replied "uhh we saw a poster on the city's notice board saying that the royal guards need help killing somthing so we came down here to see the job".
the guy just sighed and said " yeh we have been having alot of trouble at the swamps with a few monsters the look like drowners but are a lot stronger got any idea what the could be" I think for a bit and before I could answer geralt steps into the conversation and says "drowned dead".
I look at geralt and back to the captain and say "if what you are describing is correct then they are probably drowned dead but we have no guarantees, but for the right price we can take them down for you".
he looked at us and said "fine kill them and I will pay you with whatever they are worth" I pull out a contract and ask him to sign it, he looks at me weirdly and i say "last lord we did a job for tried to have us arrested for murder to take back his money, this is just a safety" he looks at us and stamps the contract with a seal.
we shake his hand and I say they will be gone by tomorrow at maximum and that we will return for our payment when it is done.
we left the barracks and we went the swamps of Vizema, before entering the swamp we asked a group of royal guards were the monsters were and we went towards the direction they pointed out.
after half an hour of walking we saw 4 drowned dead wich geralt told me was rare since the largest group he had ever seen was made of 2.
as we approached I stood at the back and summoned a bow and arrow while geralt was approaching them with a silver sword, as the group saw geralt the started attacking him.
as geralt was dealing with 3 of them I saw one approach him sneaking up from behind. I fired an arrow at the one behind making it fall, geralt took this opportunity and cast an igny at the 3 in front if him making them retreat while turning around to swing his sword at the knocked one.
me seing the opportunity fire 2 arrows at on of the monsters on fire killing it, geralt proceeded to turn around swinging chopping off ones head and I shot an arrow killing the last one.
I came up to geralt and asked "how was that pretty good aiding am I right " he just laughed a little and said "you need more work but that was pretty good" I laughed with him as I proceeded to dump the corpses into my sanctuary.
we left the swamp and headed back to the barracks and knocked on the door of the royal guards captain whe I heard him say come in I opened the door and when he saw us he asked "why are you back, cant do the quest?".
I just smile at him and take out the ears of 4 drowned dead and say "nah we are just too good at our job, we already finished the quest".
he look at me in a daze and said "are you serious we had to fight for hours and were able to do nothing and here you are saying that you killed them in less than 5hours holly sh*t" I just chuckle at his comment and say " hey what do you expect he is a witcher and I am a very strong person we kill monsters for a living, it would be disappointing if we did not kill them fast".
we talked a little bit more an then took our payment wich was more than satisfactory, as it was currently afternoon, we explored the city until nightfall were we returned to the in and geral whent to sleep while I stayed down for a bit and swooped some peoples as*es in gwent.
after a bit of time I returned to the room and slept waiting for tomorrows adventure.
