"Crap. I can't do this anymore."
Louisanna sighed in exhaustion as she tried to absorb all of the things she had read in the book that was placed on her lap, but no matter how hard she tried, nothing remained on her mind as her thoughts were roaming somewhere else.
There were two things she was thinking about. First is the bills that she needed to pay at the end of the month, especially her mother's hospital expenses which doctors say is quite a waste because her mother's condition doesn't change after all those years, and it was even worsened these past few days.
Second is her vivid dream about Domhall. She didn't know why but there was something in his presence that makes her captivated by him. She knew that he was a dangerous guy, but at the same time, she wanted to wrap both of her arms around his waist, lean her head onto his chest, and feel his heartbeat.
'Maybe because I was fascinated by his powers.'
Louisanna nodded a little as she tried to convince herself of that thought. There's no way her heart would feel something on a man who proclaims himself as the demon king.
There's also no way that she is in her sane mind because she was even entertaining the fact that all of those things happening to her was true.
What she was thinking right now was even more ridiculous than those stupid fairytales she never believed in even when she was a child.
Louisanna heaved a sigh again for the second time as she closed the book she was holding. They have a quiz at the last class on this day before she could go to work.
It is a major subject, but she can't do anything if there isn't even one single word retained in her mind every time she attempts to review. She would just pray that the quiz would postpone tomorrow.
"Studying is exhausting, isn't it?" Gianna asked her which made her snap out of her thoughts.
She was sitting beside him, but unlike her, Gianna wasn't studying. She was just staring at the sky which looked like a painting at this moment.
The color of sky had a mixture of the colors orange and red, and there are birds flying in some parts of it.
The scenery was overly breathtaking, so Louisanna had no questions about why Gianna had her eyes glistening as she never blinked once while trying to capture the image of the sky in her mind.
Louisanna didn't know that there was another reason why Gianna was fascinated by the sky. She stares at it like she hasn't seen that kind of view for a long time. Her eyes had a jolly expression on them... with a hint of longingness. Louisanna wondered why.
'Gianna is weird sometimes,' she told herself as she shook her head and looked at the sky as well.
She admits that it was pretty, though, but not to the point that she would be teary-eyed while staring at it. Maybe Gianna was suffering from something. She closed her eyes as she decided to remove that thought from her mind. Everyone has a problem they needed to solve, and overwhelming emotions they needed to overcome, just like her.
"No. Studying is fun," she answered as she leaned her head onto Gianna's shoulder. "Trying to survive every single day isn't."
"Did something happen?" Gianna asked her as her best friend's gaze went on her.
Even though she wasn't looking, she could feel the intensity of her stare. Her gaze was fixed on the students walking in front of them. Some of them were smiling while reading a book or talking to their friends, while some are alone while listening to music on their headsets.
But all of them were happy, and she could feel it. She somehow asked herself, if life became kinder to her and she doesn't need to experience all of these suffering and responsibilities at a young age, would she be able to smile genuinely as her classmates? Would she be able to have a normal life? Because in this life she has, even breathing became an obligation for her.
'Am I that bad on my past life for Heaven to let me suffer this much?' she couldn't help but ask herself in a bitter yet sorrowful tone.
"No, I'm fine," Louisanna answered as she closed her eyes. Darkness filled her body as she felt drowsy. "It was just so tiring. Everything feels exhausting."
Her body weakened as she let herself be vulnerable at that time. She could feel how her limbs felt like jelly as she didn't move much. It's not even helping that her head feels like it's getting pounded these past few days.
E novery part of her body was hurting, and she feels like her will to live was already decreasing. She's exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally.
But every time she's with Gianna, she feels like she's already safe. Gianna is in one of her comfort zones.
"Aw, my girl," Gianna told her as her hand traveled on her head and caressed it a bit, trying to put her to sleep. "It might be hard for you..." she even added as she showed a sad smile.
If only she can take the pain away, she would be glad to take it. It was her mission, after all.
Louisanna has Gianna as her guardian angel. She guided and protected Louisanna for the past three lifetimes she spent her life with her.
She was with her not just in this kind of suffering she's experiencing today, but also on those horrible days in her past lifetimes she was with her. In every lifetime Louisanna had, there's always a challenge or a wave of despair waiting for her. It was like a cycle that never ends.
And as much as Gianna could see what was happening with this lifetime; the fourth lifetime to be exact which would probably be the last time she was going to be Louisanna's guardian angel, she could see that their horrible fate would start playing again.
"I'll try to protect you as much as I can, Luna..." she whispered to her as she tapped her head for the last time since she already fell asleep on her shoulder. "I won't let you get hurt again."
After that day, the succeeding days became normal for Luna. There was no Domhall to intervene in her life as she did her daily routine, which is to study, go to school, visit her mother in the hospital as she takes care of her when she has the time, and go to work so she can sustain their needs.
"The order of table number four has arrived!" Ella, the one who was assigned beside the cashier shouted as the chef finished cooking the customer's order. "Louisanna, can you pick this up?"
"Coming!" she replied as she went onto the counter, carried the one tray which included the food that stayed on her nose after a while, and walked towards the male customer who was smiling at her as she placed the tray on the table.
"Enjoy your breakfast, sir!" Louisanna greeted him with a genuine smile.
The man was in his 40s, wearing a white suit while his white cap was placed on the other side of the table. He looked like a cowboy who just stopped here in their restaurant to rest.
"I will," the man replied as he pulled out $100 from his wallet. He held onto her wrist and placed the money on her palm. "Thank you for your service."
She had her eyes wide open as she felt how the man's touch had physical contact with her skin.
Being afraid that she would feel weak as she always felt that everyone was sucking her energy every time someone touches her, she was about to shake her hand subtly to remove his grip, but her lips slightly parted as she didn't feel anything.
It was like… she was already a normal person!
"T-Thank you, sir!" Louisanna even stuttered as she bowed to the man in front of him.
She was happy now, not just because of the tip, but also because of her realization that she can touch everyone except her mother and Gianna starting from now.
The man removed his hand from her wrist as he chuckled a bit. He just nodded before instructing the woman in front of her to do her job since some customers were already waiting for their orders.
Louisanna couldn't hide the smile on her face as she placed the $100 bill in her pocket. She looked at Ella who also made a happy face as she clenched her fist while slightly punching the air upward.
They were both happy because it's rare for their morning customers to give a tip, especially when all she does is give his order. She wasn't even the one to get his order when he got here.
'This day was so good to me. Thank you, God!' she said at the back of her mind.
After that day when she dreamt about Domhall, it feels like something good was always happening to her.
She didn't know why, but as long as she could feel like luck was always on her side, she wouldn't question anything else even though what happened to her was weird.
Her class for today will start at five o'clock in the afternoon and up to eight in the evening. There was no way she could work the night shift and attend her class at the same time, so she asked Clark if she could take the morning shift just for today. Clark, being a kind boss who gives her incentives, agreed immediately to her wish.
God knows how she missed the morning shift so much. How she greets the customers early in the morning as she takes their orders and cleans the mess once they are done eating.
The place where she's working isn't a bar in the morning, but a restaurant. She liked talking to the customers when they are in their sane minds.
Unlike in the evening when some men catcalling her became normal as almost all of them were intoxicated.
If only she could kick them in the groin and keep her job afterward, she won't hesitate to do it.
"Are you okay?" Ella immediately went to her as she saw Louisanna massaging her forehead, while her other hand was gripping tightly the locker.
Her chest went up and down as she heaved a sigh while trying to contain the pain she could feel in her head.
"I-I am…" she tried to sound convincing, but she knew it wasn't as the pain was evident in her voice.
"You should sit first. I'll be the one to clean outside, okay?"
Ella held onto her arms as she helped her to sit on the couch.
"You have a class later, don't you? So you should rest first. Health is wealth for working students like us."
Louisanna just nodded and without her noticing, Ella was already gone. She looked at her wrists and her arms which had physical contact with some people.
She couldn't feel the weakness she felt before, but if there was one weird thing aside from the fact that good things were happening to her, it was her consistent headache. It didn't leave her starting that day.
She thought it would fade away, but that wasn't the case. The headache became intense every single day— Almost everyday.
Even though she was already in the classroom one day while waiting for Gianna to come and the class to start, she felt her head getting pounded.
"Shit!" Louisanna couldn't help but scream in pain as both of her knees forcefully slammed onto the ground.
She closed her eyes tightly as she was slightly pulling the strands of her hair using both of her hands, trying her luck if it would subside the sudden pain even for a second, but it even made the situation worse.
Her visions started to blur as she felt like the world was spinning.
"Louisanna!" Gianna, who was always to the rescue, ran to her immediately as she saw what was behind the commotion in the classroom as she went inside.
Everyone was just looking but no one attempted to help Louisanna except her. They were just like those pesky neighbors who wanted to know what was happening but didn't want to be involved in it.
She immediately held her arm to heal her like she always did every time they had physical contact, but she let go of her arm in fear and shock as she felt strange energy inside her.
It looks like she has already met the demon king as she could feel his energy roaming onto her body. Gianna felt pain on her fingertips as she saw a little smoke flickering on it, but she just closed her eyes while enduring the pain.
'It will subside later.' Gianna tried to encourage herself that she can endure it.
It was the start of the painful battle they needed to fight, but it hurt her a little as Louisanna didn't tell her about this.
"You're hiding something from me, aren't you?" Gianna asked, slightly intimidated.
"T-There's something wrong with my body…" Louisanna said in a low tone as her eyes started to blacken. "It's not normal…"
It looked normal, but it was not. It feels like something was caging her.
"And that's the problem, Louisanna."
That's the only thing she heard before she lost consciousness.
