บท 385: Choosing the Battlefield

Putting aside the rest of the universe, just looking at Earth, after half of the population disappeared, the resources and assets they left behind would be an unimaginable wealth, enough to ensure a better life for the lucky ones who remained.

Of course, in any era, whether productivity is developed or lagging behind, a small portion always holds the vast majority of wealth.

If politicians, tycoons, and other big figures could survive, they would greedily devour that enormous wealth, and the lives of the poor might improve, but only to a limited extent.

This is why Thanos emphasized the 'random' elimination of half the population. Of course, it couldn't achieve perfect fairness and justice, but it was an attempt to maintain some semblance of it.

Conversely, it was precisely because Thanos was fixated on what he considered fair and just that he placed himself in a lonely position.

Apart from his loyal followers and the alien armies, he had no other allies.

Even the most greedy and timid government officials couldn't choose to compromise and surrender when faced with Thanos because the elites and vested interests were too afraid to gamble on becoming part of the 'balance.'

Thinking about this, Falcon sighed, "So, in a way, we should be grateful that Thanos is an obsessed lunatic. If he aimed to rule the world, we might all be bowing to him right now."

If Thanos followed not the so-called fairness and justice but whoever was willing to join him, he would likely have many followers, especially since this was an unprecedented business opportunity.

They could then package and sell these superheroes in no time.

Nick Fury coughed twice, interrupting the discussion, "What we should be discussing now is how to deal with Thanos, not these matters."

He was somewhat of an official, and more importantly, he needed the approval of those bigwigs to allocate funds!

Batman continued, "I've said it before; if possible, we should have the final battle outside of Earth."

"Wow, are we going to fight in spaceships?" Spider-Man cheered, "Space opera! That's so romantic!"

Player Peter Parker patted his shoulder, "Buddy, you can swing on webs on the ground, but what will you do in space? If the spaceship gets damaged, it's worse than crashing a plane!"

Doctor Strange and Thor nodded in agreement. They had experienced a space battle before. Although they narrowly escaped back to Earth, it was not a pleasant experience.

Thor muttered, "I don't like fighting in space, and most of you can't survive in space."

Captain America contemplated, "We definitely can't engage directly in space. We should choose a suitable planet. It should be far from Earth to avoid endangering it. Ideally, it should be an uninhabited and desolate planet..."

Batman and Iron Man chimed in simultaneously, "Titan!"

"Titan?" Spider-Man was curious, "What's that place?"

"It's Thanos's homeworld," Iron Man glanced at him, then continued, "That place is suitable. You've seen it in the future video, where Thanos and I, Strange, and Quill fought."

Hearing this, many of them had a memory of that planet. It was indeed a suitable choice, and in that future video, they almost succeeded in taking the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos.

At this point, many eyes turned to Peter Quill.

Peter Quill scratched his nose and leaned into Gamora, whispering, "See, they all know how much I care about you..."

Gamora rolled her eyes, "But you still messed it up."

Ant-Man couldn't help but speak, "That's right, you messed up what should have been our victory! If you hadn't been so impulsive, we could have won, and not so many people would have died!"

Scott Lang spoke as he held his girlfriend's hand. Behind him, Hank Pym and his wife raised their eyebrows in unison.

But they also agreed with what Scott said because, in that future video, their whole family died at the snap of Thanos.

Peter Quill hesitated, unsure of how to explain the situation. At that moment, Captain America came to his defense, saying, "In reality, even if we were to remove Thanos' gloves, it wouldn't necessarily stop him."

Iron Man chimed in, concurring, "You're absolutely right. Thanos' immense power doesn't solely rely on the Infinity Gauntlet. Even without the Infinity Stones, he could easily defeat all of us on Titan, as we saw in that future video."

All the heroes had witnessed firsthand the formidable combat abilities of Thanos without the Infinity Gauntlet.

Furthermore, even if they managed to take off the Infinity Gauntlet, using its power immediately wasn't an option. Even the mighty Hulk couldn't handle the sheer force of the Infinity Stones, let alone Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Star-Lord.

Before they could harness the Infinity Stones' power, Thanos would have already reclaimed the Gauntlet.

So, while Star-Lord's impulsive actions were frustrating, they ultimately didn't alter the final outcome. Doctor Strange had foreseen over 10 million possible futures, and only one held the key to defeating Thanos, albeit at the cost of Iron Man's sacrifice.

Among those countless futures, there had to be at least one where Star-Lord managed to restrain his impulses and avoid striking Thanos, right?

Yet, in the end, they fell short of that outcome. Some players defended Quill, and the others didn't say much more. However, Captain Marvel asked, "How can we get Thanos to go to Titan for the final battle as we wish?"

"It's simple; we just take the Infinity Stones with us," Batman said.

Nick Fury frowned, "Isn't that too risky? What if we fail... we'd be handing him the stones on a silver platter."

Bruce Wayne nodded, "We should prepare for the worst, but I have a backup plan. We have two Space Stones. This time, we'll take mine, and as for the Tesseract, we'll hide it. That way, even if we fail in the end, Thanos won't be able to assemble all the Infinity Stones."

His Space Stone came from the quiz game as a reward and was permanently bound. Even if he died, the Stone would disappear, not be taken away.
