The medicines of the current era had yet to dive further into certain areas of research that would open up all kinds of breakthroughs in the understanding of medicine and the human body.
They could only do so much and had yet to come across why some people had become sick from some unknown causes.
It caused many skilled doctors to fail to treat those illnesses and some even made them worse.
They did not yet fully understand everything that the human body needed and did not know the symptoms and telltale signs that pointed towards a specific disease or other issue.
Blush had heard from the information gathered by Old Smith that the wife of the Duke was weak all of or most of the time and was complaining of joint pain.
She was sometimes bleeding from the mouth and had lost some teeth as her condition was worsening.
Her skin was bruising easily and spots developed on her body so those things had helped to narrow down the possible causes.
Upon seeing her in person and examining her body, Blush had found that it was Scurvy that was responsible for her poor health.
The lack of Vitamin C or acidic acids in the body was the cause of it so if a person did not eat enough foods with Vitamin C in it then it was likely that they would suffer from Scurvy.
It was not guaranteed that they would but in a fortress closer to the sea, there would have been different types of daily meals that they favoured over things like fruits.
They mainly relied on the fish they caught at sea as their main produce and it was rarer for them to have others that made a living through farming since most people would be looking out to sea for opportunities rather than land.
The lack of fruits and other things being grown usually caused such problems but there were some that enjoyed fruits and purchased them from travelling merchants.
The doctors and those in charge of the fortress had failed to see patterns left behind among the people who had Scurvy and who did not.
If they looked deeper into what those people ate or what kind of lifestyle they lived then they may have noticed something.
They failed to cure it so Blush was given the opportunity to do so which had resulted in her gaining the cooperation of the Duke and a contract with him.
The contract had stated that in exchange for curing his wife, helping her recover and providing a way to help his citizens, he would put his efforts into providing a means of transport across the sea for her and others in the future.
An additional part of the contact had stated that any major criminals that he had been able to capture alive would be handed over to her to handle.
If there were any famous and vicious pirates that had been captured by the Duke or his fleets then Blush would be able to gain more experimental subjects.
Blush helped stabilise his wife's condition and left behind some basic instructions along with some potions to improve her health.
The Duke had initially believe that Blush would be using magic or potions to solve the problem but had found that she was quite knowledgeable and capable as a doctor too so he had been quite impressed that she was able to do what others who were far older than her could not do.
Her figure had transformed into a bird before flying off into the sky and travelled far away from the fortress.
She kept going until she flew over a road and followed along it until she came across some people that looked like tiny ants beneath her.
Blush had flown down towards them then transformed back into her human form just in time for her feet to touch the ground.
There were several people that had been walking along the road by foot without the assistance of any other tools or vehicles.
One of them was a dark skinned girl with light blue eyes and dark blue hair which was Coral who was carrying a Naginata along with her.
Several other females were with her who were dressed in robes and were holding wooden staffs which were the witches of her Witch Coven named Grimwood, Holly, Maple and Willow who were accompanied by the familiars that were smaller and could be brought along with them.
Blush waved towards them. "I am back from my trip so let the pilgrimage continue."
Most witches tended to rarely travel unless it had something to do with furthering their own power and research.
There were some others that liked to travel and adventure around or visited other places to help others and earn money for themselves.
Most of those with Blush had focussed primarily towards magic so their physical strength was severely lacking so there had been some restrictions in place during the pilgrimage.
Coral was the first to walk up towards Blush and patted her shoulder. "Welcome back. Now as promised.. no magic to aid you as you travel."
Blush rolled her eyes and sighed. "Of course.."
