บท 23: I'll be patiently waiting for your return
Julie had just joined the family, who were already having dinner.
"Aunt Maggie, there is something I have to tell you, it's something you'd be happy to hear", after Diane said this, she giggled.
Before Aunt Maggie replied to her, she drank from her glass of water, "You'll tell me that later, manners are needed when on the dinning table, I don't want anyone getting choked, especially not me", after saying this she continued eating.
Diane felt disappointed, it was written all over her face.
After Maggie was done eating, she stood up from the chair and left for her bedroom. She didn't have Diane in mind.
Soon the other members of the family, had left the table.
After a prolonged silence, Diane started, "How can you be such a cheat?".
Julie was focused in eating that she wasn't aware, that Diane was talking to her.
"Don't act like you can't hear me, cheat!", Diane said to her rudely.
Now, Julie didn't have to think twice to know that Diane was referring to her, but what Diane had said didn't sound clear to her at all.
Julie spoke softly, "I beg your pardon?".
"Don't act like you don't know what I'm saying, you think you can have it all, right?, well we'll see about that ", Diane threatened.
"I don't know what you're talking about neither do I know what you mean", Julie briefly answered her and continued eating.
Diane made up her mind to say no more and enjoy her meal for a brief time before expressing what she meant.
Soon, Julie was done eating and was just leaving.
Diane said to her while she had food in her mouth, "Are you going already?".
Julie clearly had no time for her, "I don't have time for your drama tonight, so goodnight", she just said to her before turning her back on her.
Diane still remained there soliloquizing, "I think it's better I inform Damien soon enough". She was about to get herself choked again, so she stopped talking.

"Damien, do you have an idea of what may have happened to Julie's hand?", Granny asked him softly.
Pretending not to know, he said "Did something happen to her hand?".
"Don't act like you don't know, she told me, you got into a brawl with her and...".
He cuts in, "Really?".
"So it's true you did that to her?", she asked, now concerned to hear from him.
With the prolonged silence, it was obvious he wasn't gonna reply to her question.
He changed the story by asking her, "Granny, have you had dinner?".
She ignored the question and said to him, "How can you do that to her because of a small accident?".
Damien held her hand and was about to say something to her, but she interrupted, "The girl is a very nice person".
"The nice girl had lied about the bruises. If not for someone else who had told me what transpired, she was willing to conceal your heinous act".
Damien, hearing about this *someone else* immediately became suspicious of Diane.
"Damien do you love her, or is your relationship with her a ploy?", her face was seriously demanding for the truth.
He placed his other hand on hers as he feignedly reply, "Granny, this isn't a ploy, it's a genuine relationship, of course I love her, what happened wasn't intended".
Someone was knocking at the door, it was Julie, Damien wasn't surprised to see her, since he was now aware she often visited Granny while he was away.
"I'm sorry if I interrupted something important Granny, I just", Julie wasn't done with making her statement when Granny cuts in, "No, you aren't interrupting, It's good you are here, Damien was just telling me about your bruises and how sorry he is about what he did to you".
Julie was astonished and also confused to hear what the old lady just said. Her eyes were now fixated on Damien, who looked fazed. She didn't know what to say to Granny nor Damien, who was not talking to her some minutes ago.
"I'm not angry you lied to me earlier, I understand it's your personal issue", Granny was done saying this, when she noticed what Julie had in her hands. She said, "You can keep it on my table for me,thank you dear".
Julie did as she said.....

Julie was now on the sofa, recalling what transpired at Granny's room earlier. She was amused by how Granny had made Damien aid her bruise with an ice pack.
Her phone began to ring, after seeing the name of who was calling her, she answered immediately.
"Hello"
"Julie, when are you returning home?", the voice spoke slowly.
"Ehm, soon Dad". "This is a business trip that will profit me a lot, I can't just back down now".
"Okay dear, I'll be patiently waiting for your return, take good care of yourself my sweetheart".
"Yes dad and you also, hope you're taking your medication?".
"Of course".
"I'll send some money to you"
"There's no need, the ones you've given me is enough". After this statement from the caller, a rough cough was heard at the end.
"I'll still send another dad", she was saying this when she noticed Damien approaching.
She quickly concluded the call, "Goodnight dad".
Damien perceived that she had just ended a call. "Who was that?" he asked her while taking a seat on the sofa, with his PC in his hands.
"No one", she answered while trying to keep her distance from where he was now seated.
In disbelief, he replied while his eyes were fixed on his PC, "Number 5;- no keeping of secret, so who was that?".
"Someone from home", she briskly replied.
She needed to change the topic, so she intentionally asked, "I don't understand, what was that, that happened earlier?".
He felt ashamed, that he blinked his eyes twice after recalling, how he was aiding her bruised hand, he quickly replied, "Forget what happened".
Something came to his mind, so he had to ask, "Diane must have told Granny what happened, but how did Diane know your hand was bruised?".
"Diane?", she questioned and immediately her mind went to the maid, she had brought in to clean up the mess she had broken that day, she recalled the maid apologizing to her, for giving the package to Damien. She was sure the maid was the one who had told Granny.
Damien looked at her expecting an answer, "Yes Diane, how did she know I had gotten you bruised?".
Julie made up her mind to cover up for the maid, "She must have overheard us, since she's used to coming over, I can remember clearly, I saw her at the corridor before I came in that night", she lied.
Damien didn't give it a thought, he believed her words and could remember that the incident had occured close to the door, for anyone outside to hear.
Julie knew she wasn't gonna get a sincere apology for what he did to her by sitting with him and discussing what was unnecessary, so she stood up and left.
She felt so sleepy. But before she closed her eyes, the event of when Diane was saying something to her at the dining, flashed through her mind.
She felt concerned about what she said but didn't understand what she meant, so she just assumed whatever Diane had said to her was pointless and it was just one of her mischievous game to scare her.
